AND OBAMA WINS!

Sandra's doing the one-handed typing thing.  Plus I think something's wrong with her keyboard?  This is why McCain doesn't do much on the internet.  LOL  I hope Sandra doesn't mind the presumption of my translating for her.

"Debates.   Promises.  As said, no President has ever kept them.  So I don't pay as much attention to that as I do to the man himself his history, what he has done and accomplished in the past.  I'm not Republican, Democrat, any way.  I have never voted a straight ticket.  I don't care if our President is white, black, brown, yellow, or red.  We just need one that is truly suited for the job."

    Which I agree with.

As an aside, I strongly suspect that the charity who will benefit from Palin's donated wardrobe, would have probably preferred the cash.

    Was that necessary?

    • Gold Top Dog

Actually, they'll probably get more cash then the clothes were originally purchased for, assuming they hawk everything on E-bay.  Palin has a HUGE nationwide following and I'm sure they'll have no problem selling the items as unique momentoes of a historic campaign.  For instance, people on either side would be bidding for the outfit Gov Palin wore on SNL.

THANKS BECCA. YES, NOT ONLY AM I TYPING ONE HANDED, I HAVE SERIOUS VISION PROBLEMSDUE TO DIABETES.  AT THIS POIT I AM EGALLY BLIND IN LEFT EYE..  I CAN NOT READ NEWSPAPER WITH OUT MGNIFYING GLASS, I O NOT SEE MY TV CLEAR.  I HE TO GET MY FACE RIGHT O TH SCREEN TORAD POST OR ANTHING ELSE ON MY CMPUTER SCREEN UNLESS IT IS DONE IN CAPITAL LETTERS, BOLD PRINT AND ARGE LETTERS.  TO READ OSTS I NORMAL PRINT, I HAVE TO USE MAGNIFYING GLASS.

I HAVE HAD LAZER SURGERY ONMY LFT EYE, THAT DID NOT WORK.  I HAD AN INJECTION JUST UNDER MY EYEBAL .  THAT DIDN'T WORK.  YSTRDAY I HAD A INJCTION RIGHT NO Y EYE BALL WITH A DRUG THAT CAN POSSIBILY CUSE HEART ATTACK OR STROKE.  HOWEVER IT IS RARE THAT HAPPENS WHEN THE DRUG IS USED IN THE EYE FOR MY PROBLEM.  TIS DRUG IS ALSO USED FOR CANCER TREATMENT AND THAT S WHERE THE STROKES AND  HEAR ATTACK COME IN

I WILL BE OUT OF MY BRACE FOR BROKEN THUMB IN ANOHTER 2 1/2 WEEKS--THAT MEANS1 WEEK IN SPLINT, 6 WEEK IN CAST, 3 WEEKS IN BRACE.  IT WA A BAD BREAK WHERE MY THUMB JOINS MY HAND.

SOMENE MENTIONED THIS BEING LIKE CAMELOT----THAT WAS THE PHRAZE USED FOR THE KENNEDY'S IN THE HITEHOUSE.  WELL I SURE IT DON'T HOPE IT DOESN'T END UP LIE THAT STORY.  IHAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN THE DAY JFK WAS KILLED.  IWAS A FRESHMAN IN COLLEGE AND DIDN'T HAVE A CASS TIL AFTERNOON.  PULLED UP AND A BOY CAME RUNNING YELLING THAT KENNEDY HAD BEEN KILLED.  I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT.  I HAD HOPED TO NEVER SEE THT KIND OF THING AGAIN, THEN BOBY WAS KILLED.  HE WAS MY CHOICE FOR PRESIDENT THAT YEARS.  AS I HAVE SAID, I BELONG TO N PARTY, JUST VOTE FOR WHO LIKE THINK BEST SUITED FOR ANY POSITION.  I SAW ATTEMPTS ON FORDS LIFE, I SAW REAGAN SHOT.  I NEVER WNT THI TO HPPEN AGAIN.

My apologies Ron.  But, yes, I think it was necessary.  That is just an enormous amount of money to spend on clothing.  And the hair and makeup?  Oye.  The woman can't buy a tube of lipstick at Walgreen?

The kind of excess and waste by the Republicans really highlights the differences in the two parties.  O'Bama spoke in an open public park...come one come all.....McCain in a ritzy hotel ballroom, by invitiaton only.  If that offends you, I'm sorry, but it's flat out fact.

Sandra, I too remember the JFK election, although I was a bit younger.  And yes, the prevailing attitude was that the POPE was going to be running our nation.  Knowing what we know NOW about JFK's little habit of bed hopping, what a HOOT!

I'm not altogether certain why we are still in Iraq.

Just visited a friend this weekend who is in the Army along w/her husband.  Both have served in Iraq (where they met), and her husband is back there again for another tour.  She also says she doesn't know why we're still in Iraq.  So, from the front lines... even they don't see the need to be there.  She said that the Iraqis use up the resources we give them frivolously (ie, rounds of ammunition shot off in celebration) and that disgusts her.  In any event, what led to this discussion was her telling me she voted for Obama and my experience had been that most military I knew vote hard-line Republican.  It was very interesting to me... I think everyone wants a change.  Some may not have gotten the change they wanted, but we can all work together and hope.

(I am not yelling gang just wanted to see if bold print might help Sandra?)

Sandra have you ever looked into the dictation typing software?? I have a very dear friend who has had a couple of strokes. His vision is very poor from diabetes as well. He is on the computer all day long and This program really makes a huge difference for him He calls it the Dragon, I do not know if that is part of the name or not.  They are not wealthy so I do not think the set up was really expensive.  You work with it for a couple of days teahing it to recognize your voice and speech patterns then it will type as you speak. He LOVES it.Due to his strokes his speech is sometimes less than clear but the computer compensates for that. I believe it also reads his email etc to him. If I knew how to change the size of my fonts I would happily write in a slightly larger one to help you read posts easier. Would darkening a post to bold help with your reading?  There are days WhenI have a headache that it would help me too!

On the topic of Camelot, I was 7 years old I remember how it affected our home , my older siblings and mother were devastated.  It is the only night as a kid I can ever remember my mom not cooking dinner.  Of course back then we only had 3 channels on TV so the coverage was huge. The radio was non stop interviews with the song from Camelot playing over and over. I had never seen my older brothers cry before that day. Mom finally put on the stereo and played records. Mr Ackerbilt ( he played the clarenet) was played over and over along with her classical records.  Isn't it amazing how an event can lodgein your head for a million reasons?

My family, like many loved the Kennedys.  Even with the rumors of scandals you knew back then this Irish Catholic was changing the world. This is slightly off topic but I find it interesting that it has never bothered me to think of a man in that position having an affair or flings. I have not the first clue why, but it just hasn't. And I am practically rabid about the concept in my own home or with my friends. They know I would never cover up for them if they wanted to step out and I have ended a long time friendship with a co worker who was stepping out on her husband.  I did not want to talk to her about him or listen to her try to justify it.  The attempt on Regan was also devastating, it makes you feel as if no one is safe I think.

My biggest hope for Obama is that it will inspire younger people to become more involved. That it will give the millions and millions of bi racial children a role model that will take the stigma off their shoulders of not being one race or another.  If he accomplishes only that what an amazing gift to give the country.

     Republican vs. Democrat

Obama's campaign raised over $600 Million dollars. I hardly think he, his family or his staff was living on a shoestring budget this past year. We have no idea what Michelle Obama spent on her clothes, hair or makeup either. I'm not saying that there wasn't a lot of excessive spending but I think it was probably done by both parties.

Yes, the software ios called DragonSpeak. I have it and the recent versions work quite well. Haven't tried it on reading webpages--only typing in Word, but may be worth checking into.

Since I am in California, and Sacramento in particular, it is fairly common to see biracial children. I do remember 15 or 20 years ago, it was considered a HUGE stigma to be biracial, and yes, have spoken to people who have told me they get asked "What are you?" and are feeling left out of racial identity. I have a child with a disability and work in the area of mental health, so am really hoping society can continue to be inclusive of everyone, even if they are "different" somehow and focus on an individual's strengths, not the labels/assumptions based on appearance or stigma.

    Enough on my soapbox.

Yes, way too much money was spent on BOTH sides of the campaign, but Mrs. O'Bama wasn't the candidate, so what she spent on clothing isn't the issue.  How much money did the Dems spend to outfit Joe Bidden?  Or O'Bama for that matter?

It's just the excess that we hear about that makes me sick.  And I'm sorry, but I have lived for the past year on less money than they spent for Palins hair and makeup for TWO WEEKS!

Nor do I agree with the massive amounts of money that the Dems spent on advertising.

IHAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN THE DAY JFK WAS KILLED.

JFK's assassination was one of those times that everyone remembers exactly where they were. I was only 10 but I can still remember the moment I heard the news. Although we hate to even think of this could happen with Obama, in fact and sadly we all know this is a possibility. Dh and I both noted the high clear barrier erected in front of Obama during his speech on Tuesday. This must have been something that Obama considered long and hard before running.
