AND OBAMA WINS!

    • Gold Top Dog

I really wanted to go to  bed but I wanted to hear both speeches. Obama said things I have said, which proves he's not all bad. For example, and yeah, I'm going to bring one more time because Pres Obama did so, if you don't like it, call him at 1600 E. Pennsylvania Ave, Washington, DC. It's a white house with a big yard. What he said was, McCain has sacrificed more in so many ways for this country that most of us will never understand. Amen to that.

At the same time, to be an effective president, he can't be fractious.

So, we're not going to get those checks right away and he's not going to "Share the wealth" right away. We're also not getting out of Iraq any time, soon, and he's going to have to learn to trust our generals on the ground if we are to get out of there.

He has a sheer verticle learning curve between now and Jan. 20. As Lee used to say, the only easy day was yesterday. As I have said, running for president is one thing, being pres requires knowledge and briefing which will change further what he is going to do.

He's going to make mistakes and he's going to do some good things. Like any other pres. He and I share a similar hope. That someday, people, grown adults, will get over this skin color thing. He is just a man, not the messiah. And like any politico, there is a difference between what is promised and what one actually gets through congress.

So, let us all be like McCain, be gracious and do what we can for our country and fellow man.

Great post Bonita of Bwana. Life could not go on as it was. Our country was slipping down further and futher. I live in Ohio, I live where the unemployment rate is just ridiculous. I live where I am getting about $30 of groceries for $50. We have been lucky healthwise but I see my sister who is has many health problems go into the "loophole" on her medical insurance every year and then can't pay for her medicine,,,after working her whole life and raising a family besides. I'm tired of hearing about the companies the must close because their business is going overseas....  I'm not sure how much of it was the Bush administrations fault or how much was started before him....I only know that it got worse in the last 4 years...a lot.  It had to change.  And I'm sorry for those that are above the middle class and are afraid of what this new administration will do to you...but I am tired of getting no where and worry of what will come next for my family.... I know we work every bit as hard as everyone else for our money.

I don't know how much Obama do.... we'll all have to wait and see. I, like all of us here hope things get much better in the time to come...seriously,,it couldn't get much worse.

I did not see Obamas speech last night, but I did see McCains and I thought it was very respectfully good.

oh that is just ridiculous.  absolutely ridiculous...... (referring to above post)

Why, because she doesn't agree with you?

Funny, I am sure if it was the other way around and the republican won, I am sure these types of comments would have been perfectly acceptable - that's called being hipocritical and the whole election was run this way and it makes me sad that the media is so obviously biased because they influence so many.  If anyone dare said anything against or negative about Obama they were horrific, stupid, and racist.  However, all you had to do was listen to CNN, MSNBC, NBC, etc. etc. and listen to broadcasters blast McCain/Palin on everything.  I am just sick and tired of people crapping all over one party and the people that support it because it is socially acceptable - if not encouraged to do so, but these same people get offended and defensive if someone says anything against their party.  If you are going to dish it out, you have to take it.

Look, I don't care who one since personally they are all politicians and they lie and do whatever they want - we are simply their puppets that support their huge egos and self-motivated agendas.  And if you don't believe that, then I am sorry you are naive.  I have worked with politcians and I know there is a reason only a few rise to the top - most don't have the stomach to deal with all of the back stabbing, side deals, etc.  This is for both parties.  Most of the politicians I know that truly wanted to help the "people" are from local government.  The higher you go up the chain the more of your soul you have to sell...there isn't much left in the end, trust me regardless of party.

I do hope for change.  There are a lot of people in America hurting right now and something has to change.  I hope that Obama can do it.  I really do.  I am also very excited for African Americans.  How amazing that a country that used to enslave this race has come so far as to elect an African American as their leader.  All African Americans should be proud of who they are and what they have accomplished.  This is what America is truly about - no matter who you are if you have the determination, luck, etc. you can be president.  For that I am proud.

Big words Ron!  And so very very true!

It was truly marvelous, if nothing else, to see the excitement and smiles at the polls!

From a watching outsider, I have to say that for me, truer words were never spoken.  This election race made history in more ways than one and from where I'm standing the most important way was that it got all of you caring.  I have watched political threads go back and forth and from both sides there was always passion and belief, and those are the things necessary to rebuild those parts of a country which have fallen.  Apathy doesn't get anybody anywhere, and the way in which this race destroyed apathy was truly inspiring to watch.  I admit to you all, right now, that I am jealous - not only of the changes you are about to see, but of the motivation you all displayed.

I just had a discussion with my DH about the differences, never more apparent than this morning, between the way the UK and the US handle elections, not in a political way but in the huge deal that the ordinary person makes of it.  We'd never see a rally to equal the ones either party had last night, and I envy you all.  Your government is what you have, your country was founded because of the belief that you should be able to govern yourselves.  Our little island here has been governed for millenia, by royalty who took it by force or were born to it by blood.  By the time democracy came around, we took the idea that someone is in charge of us for granted, and frankly I don't think anybody here really, truly cares who runs things anymore.  You all do, I have seen it over recent weeks or months and whatever my own political affiliations, I have the deepest respect for every single one of you for making your voices heard and for nailing your own proverbial colours to the mast.

This country and The People are in need of this major shift in leadership.  The Little People, like me and my family welcome this shift.  Its simple, really.  The Republican party works for the rich man, the corporate elite.  This new President Elect and his First Lady was born and raised from a different culture, without the silver spoon.  They will work for the middle class...to make life better.  I am hopeful.

Small thing, the color of his skin.  I wish people could get past that and see him for what he is:  Hope for America, hope for the world, hope for my family and my husbands small business.  I am so thankful my vote made a difference.

I look forward to better times.

However, all you had to do was listen to CNN, MSNBC, NBC, etc. etc. and listen to broadcasters blast McCain/Palin on everything.

It amazes me how we all see/hear things through our own personal filter.  I'm a huge fan of MSNBC but was completely fed up with them for the last few weeks.  They constantly aired McCain/Palin stump speeches, often in their entirety, and virtually ignored Obama/Biden.  And (IMO) all they talked about was what Obama "had" to do to pull this out.  As if he were the one trailing in all the polls.  My oldest son (12) walked into the room one evening while I was watching the CBS Evening News, and said "why are they so biased for McCain?"  Which I hadn't really noticed, but had to agree with once I thought about it and started paying closer attention.   So . . . just interesting how we all view things so differently, which I suppose is due to our own bias.

This is such a big lie. I am neither rich nor part of the corporate elite. But somehow the democrats have made people think that if you make over $50k that you are rich. Sorry, not the case. I just don't support government handouts. Earn it yourself.

May I just ask that we all remain respectful of each other's views.

Could not have been a better night for me!  Pretty much everyone I voted for won (and FWIW, MOST of them are Republicans), both our proposals passed, Obama taking MI, VA, OH, FL, Dem majority in Congress, amazing voter turn out around town...  My DH teaches in an inner-city school and said a teacher spent most of her day driving around, picking up people without cars and shutteling them to polls.  The school where he works has a precinct and the lines were 3 hours long but no one was leaving he said.

This is so true.  I watch news television before going to bed.... and often talk radio while in my car. Yesterday was sick for me, driving home from work listening to Sean Hannity,  and there is all the others...Glen Becks, Limbaughs, Savages..... and then to come home and hear the ad that they took out against Obama, playing the Reverend Wrights speach which of course was despicable ( which I listened to Rush playing for probably 30 minutes a few days ago, over and over and over before I finally realized I need to turn him off )  It was almost...and I say "almost" laughable.   Maybe we all received  the email asking for more and more money to pay for those ads, promising that if we send more money they will play it right until the end.  Amazing how much money was probably raised for those ads........I used my money for groceries.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! What an amazing, passionate and historic election. I applaud you for your unprecedented turn out at the polls and your clear and decisive choice for change. Although change can be scary for many, remember that the inability to change has led to the demise of great and powerful nations throughout time. I have great optimism for your future under President Obama. I am optimistic that the majority of Americans will see a significant improvement in their lives. I am optimistic that Obama will inspire and lead your country to a future that is even greater than your past. God bless you!

i have never picked a winner yet. this is the first year i voted for one of the major party candidates. usually they both sicken me.

i was dismayed by two things... the biased nbc coverage of the event, and the fact that in such hard economic times obama spent 3/4 of a billion $ on his campaign. a campaign that he initially vowed to only used public funds for. in such hard economic times wouldnt all that money have been better spent in a humanitarian effort of some sort?

i was also appalled at the fact that biden was not only running for VP, but also running to maintain his senate seat. that just seems wrong to me. how can you be allowed to run simultaneously for two different positions? not only that but the guy on fox news said that if he won VP the governor would appoint his senate replacement. that seems wrong too.

i didnt hear all of obama's speech. what i did hear sounded a lot like a preacher speaking to me.

i have no faith in any of our legislative branch, and likely will not vote again. good luck with your government.

and likely will not vote again. good luck with your government.

Its still OUR government...whether its the one we voted for or not.  Not voting in the future won't help change things to where you might want them to go.   This election proved that voting CAN and DOES change things.

Now hopefully its for the best!
