Pit Bull Breeders...Very 'muscely' looking dogs...

I hate to say this, but I don't believe those pictures from the front showed the true dog. From the bottom picture, there's no way that dog looks like that from the front.

I'm thinking it's something the owner of the dog, and site, did when they scanned the pictures into their computer. Have you ever messed with pictures in photo shop? You can do some massive distorting by enlarging pictures that aren't very large to begin with. My suggestion to you to see this, go find a small picture of an animal and set it as your background. I've done this this before, not on purpose, just trying to find a new background picture. Then you'll see what I mean by distorting. Cause that's what those pictures look like to me, distorted.

Doesn't seem like people can agree on what's a "true" pit, does it?

    real American pit bull Terrier.
Alieliza's Tyson is a real APBT.
    So is Bullymom's.
    Ella is a mix, however. I think she's a pitador.[:D]

    Not so muscular

When I said "stocky" I didn't mean it looked so wide that it looked like its shoulders were dislocated!
hahaha, those poor, poor, WIDE THINGS are going to be most likely suffering from joint issues at some point in their lives.

    • Gold Top Dog
    Yes, Tyson is APBT.

Those dogs that you posted, Rebecca, are all pretty good examples.

Tyson's muscles (IMO) are not as defined as most APBTs, though. He needs some conditioning work. He has lost weight since we took him off Pedigree, and he weighs in at about 55 lbs now, which is over breed standard, and I'm ok with that as long as hes not incredibly overweight. He is not, however, a "low rider" or "hippo", or even a mix breed.

I know this is OT, but my dad a has thin, field trialing/hunt testing labrador, and he calls her a "labrahound" as opposed to the show "pigadors". (No offense intended to anyone on the board who owns a lab!). I think its sorta funny.

couldnt have said it better myself....

i dont understand the purpose of breeding a "low rider" pit bull.... english bulldogs have the same freakin shoulders and stance!
i dont think it would have much purpose in weight pulling, i see dogs without dislocated shoulders pulling just fine  ie malamutes, huskies,
    and other draught breeds.
why do people have to pick on the pit bull..... we've done enough already to ruin his reputation, do we REALLY need to make him look like genetic spit up?

I thought they changed breed standard from 40-60 lbs? I could be wrong (and probably am [:D])

That's funny about your dad! I call labradors "Labradorks", because, honestly, they are HUGE goofballs who are extremely intelligent. I got that from another pit bull person who also own a labrador(k).

Ella's not very muscular. Her back legs are, but her chest and front legs could use some actual muscle building/toning. I'm think the only way to achieve that is weight pull. She gets bike rides and flirt pole work, but no weight pull because I don't have a fenced in yard to work with her on it.

I think most have actually stopped calling those "genetic spit ups" (HILARIOUS, I LOVE IT) APBTs. I think they are now called Amercian Bullys or Ambulls. I think.

I totally agree! Why people change dogs to make them less functional is beyond me.

Yes!!!  I was just going to post about this.  Almost every one of those "pit bull" breeder pages has distorted pictures.  I've been noticing it...they must do it on purpose to make their dogs look wider. [8|]  I'm hyper sensitive to noticing that type of thing (I can't watch movies that aren't properly fitted to the screen size or it will drive me up the wall).  All these pit pictures are squished vertically.  Perfect example is this page:http://www.drawthelinekennels.com/males/mr_rip.htm  Go down to the bottom and look at the last two side-by-side pictures of the dogs' front.  The one on the left is flattened, the one on the right is not.  Every single other picture on that page with the exception of the one on the bottom is flattened.  Those dogs aren't really as extreme as they're made out to be - granted they're still awful and horrible looking, but the pictures are lying.

speaking as someone who has once owned and opperated a personal website, depending on what service you use, you cant help but squash and distort photos. sometimes, and only sometimes, you can look at the picture in jpg format and see what it really looks like. or you can look at objects in the background to determine if things are distorted.
    my opinion?
i think these dogs really are deformed and with no help from the camera. i saw videos on youtube of some sort of goof ball gangsta bully parade.... these dogs were horribly out of shape and physically distorted. i mean... they didnt have much over on Bassett hounds. they waddled, slobbered, panted uncontrollably... when my dog hassles like that i worry about heat stroke....

these arent the videos i am wanting to show.... i'll have to look harder for the one i want. all the footage is shot outside in what looks like the middle of summer and the dogs just looked wasted...

Dumdog, comparing thosse to bassets is a HUGE insult. Bassets (and other dwarf breeds) are athletic dogs with weird conformation. Those are just dogs with weird conformation.

actually you're right. i forgot about the dwarfism of the basset. which i think was accidental at first, but they still managed to hunt. i'm not sure what you would do with an american bully except let it take up space on the sofa.
one of those videos mentions line breeding. this gotti line has only existed since 1997.... they have been working hard to distort things, and not with photoshop.

The ambull is NOWHERE NEAR as athletic as a true, bred for sport APBT.
Ask ANY true APBT sporting enthusiast.

They do not have the body form and shape to jump near as high or pull weights as well.

It's kind of funny to see so many "true" APBT lovers get all huffy about the ambulls. I go to a board full of them. They get SO offended by them.
And I would too. I mean, I will always rescue any dog I own, but a lot of people DO buy from reputable breeders when they buy their APBTs and they have plans for them either in weight pull, confirmation or bitework. And they get MAD whenever someone refers to ambulls as APBTs.

Have you seen some of the elbows and hips on some of those hippos? And yes, they are also referred to as "hippos".
    • Gold Top Dog
lol when you said ambull I was about to get huffy ...but only because i say AmBull when i am talking about American Bulldogs.... good grief i hope no one thinks i own an American bully...... no way. my dog.. well.. WAS athletic... and still is, kinda if it wasnt for her being injured..... but she looks nothing like those lol .. hippos... good name for them too. hippopitamus - hippopotamus.. same thing.
