Pit Bull Breeders...Very 'muscely' looking dogs...

How do pit bull breeders make their dogs so muscley? Do treadmills do the work??

A lot of it is genetics.

A lot of pit bull owners get their dogs into weight pull.
A lot also work them out on treadmills, use flirt poles, spring poles, take them swimming.

Pit bulls are generally stocky, muscular dogs anyway.

It depends what you mean by muscely.

Selective breeding and mixed breeding help to create the massive pit bulls that are way off of the breed standard.

Muscley, fairly lean, pitbull standard sized dogs are conditioned through treadmills, weightpulls, various other sports, spring pole/flirt pole work, etc.

I could just see Dipper on a treadmill now!  He'd strangle himself!  He is really starting to act like a Dipstick!

if this is what you mean by muscly... its selective breeding. or the recreation of the disaster dog we call English Bulldog... aka breathing problems, lack of stamina etc.
or so i am told by haters. the REAL pit bulls are supposed to be lean and sinewy, and .. healthy looking and should not exceed 40-something pounds... again... so i'm told. i'm not a pit enthusiast so i dont have the standard memorized, but i do know the history and what not.

The true pits are smaller than what is supposedly shown, someone should actually show a true pit.

Looks like good ideas for exercising dogs! I don't have any pits, but it looks like fun stuff anyway!

U.S. folks need to be careful when getting a doggie treadmill.  In some localities it is considered dog fighting equipment and is illegal to possess.

Of course, there is nothing that keeps you from putting a dog on a human treadmill with a nice cushioned surface.

To me, that dog looks like a mix. Especially in the side profile picture at the bottom of the page.

those arent the standard and i would be willing to bet they have some french mastiff outcrossing in there somewhere.....
i believe that partly its from breeding for that look since weight pulling is becoming more and more popular.
at LEAST that dog looks a little more functional than some bulky blocky dogs we see...  his front legs and shoulders dont look like a horse shoe...

These dogs are called "low riders" by Pit Bull "breeders".  These are usualy the gangsta type who breed for this.  Ack---[:'(]
