Blue was Sam or Sammy which he didn't respond to when we got him so we switch it the first day.

The people who owned Lex's mom and litter were calling him "Airebud"  because he was the one that looked most like his mom, an airedale.

My cats both came from a shelter
     - Bella, was originally called "Lilac"
     - Mort, was originally called " Delilah"

JJ's greyhound racing name was "Jimmy James Sway" and they called him Jimmy James or JJ for short at the rescue and we liked it and kept it.

Prudence's racing name was "Purdy Brown" and at the rescue they called her "Murphy", but we didn't think it fit, so we renamed her "Prudence".. cuz not only was she a "shy girl", but Prudence was a female name we really liked for years and our nickname's for Prudence are Purdy and Pru.  Not only was she called "purdy brown", but her littermate was named "Pru Brown"... so by calling her Prudence, we are also honoring one of her littermates that I don't believe was fortunate enough to be rescued off the racetrack [:(]

Jack's name was "Ceasar". He was picked up running loose at a casino on a reservation, so I think it's pretty funny that both Jack and Ceasar have gambling overtones.

Evangeline's name was Louise at the Rescue Society .

We got Tojo from a breeder as a puppy, but his ID was "aqua", haha. They had a different colour collar for each puppy to keep their papers and microchips straight. They also owned a store and took the puppies to the store to be socialized and they said the employees had given him a name but they couldn't remember what it was, which is too bad, because I was really curious.

Anyway, Loki managed to keep his name through five owners! His original owner named him that and had gotten him for search and rescue work, then he ended up at the shelter. The owner said he was moving and couldn't take him, but I know for a fact that Loki would make a terrible search and rescue dog (not driven AT ALL - doesn't even so much as look at a ball if you throw it) so I sort of wonder if he just didn't want the dog that didn't work out. Then he went through a few other owners who all returned him within just a few weeks, and then my parents adopted him and now I have him. He's just been Loki the whole time. When my parents originally adopted him, my sister and I were going to think of a better name than Loki but we couldn't really think of one, so we just left it.

It's funny because now I have a totally different taste in names. I even have a different taste in names since getting Tojo and that was less than two years ago. Not that I hate their names or anything...

Lance's name was "Anthony", which just did not seem like a dog name to me, and he didn't know it anyway. It took him about two hours to "learn" his name (he's very food motivated, haha).

Gwen's name was "Daisy", which was fine on its own, but she didn't answer it, and I know several dogs with that name so I changed it. It took her awhile to learn her name, she has selective hearing [8|]

Lucky's name was Buddy - for good reason.  He's our bestest buddy!

Whoo!  Here's where my creative side really shines through.  Luke's shelter name was -- Luke.  [8|]

I really did have every intention of changing it.  Fisher was one of my top choices and I can't recall the other one right now.  Every time I mentioned my top two names people made faces at me.  Since I apparently have no backbone, I left him named Luke.  But you know what?  It really seems to suit him.

Gracie was named ChaCha... she was named by my trainer who was the training director there.  When someone made reference to female anatomy as "she had some problem w/her ChaCha" - the name was DONE!  I was NOT keeping it.

Caleb's shelter name was Toad - apparently named by his original owner.  It does kinda suit him, but I wanted something more dignified for this very serious sad dog. He still gets called Toad in moments of affection or frustration.[:D]

none of mine came from a shelter - but 3 of the 4 are rescue/rehomes - I kept the names they had when they arrived

Scooter, however, only got his name the day I picked him up from his last home -- I walked into the house, he ran to me and rolled on my feet, then with tail wagging the body, begged to be picked up - I & DH ignored him for a minute while talking to his "then parents" who told us the dog was 2 yrs (if that) and they never got around to naming him, they mostly never called him anything, her sister called him Scooter when she stayed 1 night with them, - "so they guess it was as good as anything.  Just call him Scooter." ---- turned out (when I got his records) he was 4 yrs old, and did not answer to any name, just "Hey You".
