    I need a smart name....

for my very smart foster pup. he's learned sit and lay down - and we've only been home for about an hour!

He's probably around 3 months old, I'm guessing some sort of border collie/retriever mix. His hair isn't short, but kinda medium in length, but it's hard to tell that from the pics...

    name ideas? =]

     Einstein?

    • Gold Top Dog

haha, that's the first thing I thought of - but it seems like such a big name for a little guy =]

    • Gold Top Dog

    He looks all Border Collie.

http://www.lockeyebc.com/puppies.html (not a breeder I recommend by the way - just happens to have a lot of smooths)

With a BC you can go traditional (Ben, Glen, Star, Spot (look at the back of the head for the "wisdom spot";), or the "new" names tend to go with movin' and shakin' types of names like Chaos and Rave and Lazer and Flare.

Domino was the first thing that popped into my head...dunno why.

I had kinda thought he COULD be all BC (smooth coat), but.... it's hard to tell with babies.... so I looked it up, after you posted your links.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6b/Smooth-coat_Border_Collie_puppy..jpg - he looks JUST like that puppy, only he's not a tri. and there's a few on this page http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.workingsheepdog.co.uk/pics/030611_9967_300.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.workingsheepdog.co.uk/puppypics.htm&h=289&w=300&sz=14&hl=en&start=2&um=1&usg=__-KQ3I7bIVoA60ffwNxGZmR60cO4=&tbnid=E4wUJ7HE351o8M:&tbnh=112&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsmooth%2Bcoated%2Bborder%2Bcollie%2Bpuppies%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address%26rlz%3D1I7GFRC%26sa%3DN that he resembles

he's SUPER smart for a pup (one of the smartest I've had). he's had NO accidents in side, and as soon as we stepped outside, he went potty. He walks great on a leash, and stays a clear distance from the cats.

he lays frog-butt style, is that typical of BCs? Casey wont do it, I don't know if it's because his legs don't allow him to, or if he just doesn't like it, he kinda half ways does it every now and then.

I like Domino - he's black and white like one! =]

I'll try to get more pictures tomorrow of him standing, side view, etc.

BCs are super flexible.  Rubber jointed.  He will give you many scares if he has the BC rubber joints - the other famous position is the sideways sit.  Most other breeds you see them sitting on one hip like that and you think AAAAAHHH - hip dysplasia!  But it's just a thing.  So they can do THIS:

haha - he's def. a clumsy pup. He was shaking his squeaky toy, and fell over (not neurological, just lost his balance). He's quite the clown!

    We're working on shake now....

He's adorable! What about Franklin, after Rosalind Franklin, the woman who contributed to Watson and Crick's discovery of the double-helical structure of DNA? She died before she could get a Nobel Prize and was a real pioneer for her day. =D Watson or Crick would be cute, too.

Whip (as in smart as a....)

IQ (Ike is a cute derivation on this)

    DaVinci

    DaVinci

Good one - or Leo, Leonard, Leonardo, Lenny?

    I like Lenny actually.

    Other ideas...

Cato.  Ancient Roman name meaning wise...

This name belonged to Cato the Elder (Marcus Porcius Cato), a Roman statesman, author and censor, and also to his grandson Cato the Younger (Marcus Porcius Cato Uticencis), a politician and philosopher who opposed Julius Caesar.

Frodo.  Comes from Germanic element "frod" which means wise.  Great if you like LOTR!

Cuthbert.  Old English meaning famous and clever.

Elvis/Alvis. Old norse, meaning all wise

    More names meaning wise/intelligent:

    Curt, Conner, Conan, Quinn, Drew

Todd.  Scottish nickname for clever or wily person

I LIKE THIS ONE: >> Kenji:  Japanese, meaning intelligent second son.  Might sound too similar to Casey tho?
