OMG! Uncontrollable Book Shopping... What's Your Vice?? (alieliza)

I just placed a whopping $275 book order on amazon! Am I crazy???

I am currently immersed in my review of the literature for my Masters Thesis. I will be implementing a Multicultural Book Club for teachers in the elementary school that I work in, so a lot of the texts are novels that I will read to assess whether or not I will use them in the club. I also had a ton of professional books in there, that I took out in order to pursue a cheaper option... the University book store.

I applied for an amazon credit card, which would save me $30 and would allow me to pay off little by little, but... I wasn't instantly approved. So I've been waiting for the past 5 days for an approval message and haven't gotten it.... watch it come tomorrow! I went ahead and bought the books because I've been grappling with this large order (30+ books) for quite some time.

I also bought books to use in school. If I get approved for this credit card it will be a good thing anyway, as I'm *always* buying books.

What's your shopping vice that you just can't resist? Me, you got it, books!

I buy books too, but I usually get them through one book club or another ... so I guess my shopping weakness would be tablecloths/napkins, plates, goblets, etc. I hate to cook with a passion but I can set a very elegant looking table for my Safeway deli  take out. Smile

LMAO Joyce!  I used to be the same way, although since meeting DH, I have learned to enjoy cooking.

Hi, my name is Amanda & I am a clothes junkie.  I buy clothes for both DH & myself all the time.  This week, I got a dress, 6 very cute tops that were on sale, & 3 pairs of jeans.  I bought DH 2 pairs of shorts, a tee shirt, a golf shirt, & some new undies.

One word - Library!  I do go a little manic in the library though - I have to stop when I'm not physically capable of carrying out texts.  I am such a book geek.  Geeked

The library gets me into *a lot* of trouble. I am incredibly forgetful, and I get so busy that renewing books just slips my mind. I end up owing more money in books than it would have cost me to buy them!

The grocery store. Seriously. I justify it in my brain that it's FOOD so I'm not...wasting money...technically.

Thank you for this.  Now I don't feel so bad about the $38.90 I just spent at B&N on books, mostly naughty and one cookbook.  I swore when I was done with 8 years of reading textbooks for school I was going to buy a big trashy romance novel to read for pleasure and that's just what I did, I bought TWO!

I buy alot of books, but my big $$$ ends up being spent on home improvement supplies that I don't immediately use.  Luckily, the stuff isn't exactly perishable and now I'll be starting on some projects when I can tear myself away from the naughty novels.  Stick out tongue

I'm a sucker for scrapbooking and craft supplies.  I have loads of scrapbook supplies but haven't completed a single scrapbook.  A couple years ago my daughter did a few pages of her own baby book.  Pathetic and sad, but true!  LOL

I'm a sucker for outlets and coupons.  Twice a year or so, DH and I go to the Gap outlet, and I always end up with way more than I need, just because it's 75% off or whatever.

I was home sick on Wed and got an e-mail from Shutterfly saying I could get a free 20 pg photo book.  I decided to make a collection of my favorite photos (for people that ask to see them and potentially hire me).  Well, the book ended up costing me $37 on top of the free 20pgs b/c I filled up 20 pgs with just a handful of photos!

I'll also do stuff like add more stuff to my carts so I get free shipping on orders over $50.

im glad im not the only one!!

the old man who was working behind the desk that went around to the shelves to get my "order" (i request them online) had to make two slow shuffling trips today - i felt SO bad! he thought it was hilarious watching me pile them all the way up to my chin and stumble towards the door balancing them precariously, though, so i guess we were even =P

actually spending money, though... either computer stuff (i'm a nerd), or just plain stuff for my dog/me... it was bad, the other day it started out with me looking for a backseat car hammock to protect my new car, and $150 later i had the cover.. and a bunch of clearance items that i'll probably never use, including a cute red/white ruffle thing with jingle bells to put around Ollie's neck for christmas, some wreath shaped treats, and a set of mugs with dog paws all over them EmbarrassedStick out tongue

If you could see my kids wardrobes, you'd know.  Half the time I don't even realize I'm doing it.  I'll be wandering through the mall, or wally or wherever and all of a sudden I have 3 outfits for each kid in my arms and heading off to the checkout.  I wish I could bring myself to spend some on me.  I haven't bought myself new clothes in a long long time, but when I try, the kids department just sucks me back.  Shoes too.  Quantity over quality is my motto on shoes.  If you only have to wear them twice, it doesn't really matter if they're made to last.

Ooh, I got another one.  Or two.  Two places I require adult supervision:  really nice feed/saddlery shops and online health/holistic stores.

Seriously, last night I was at Leggets Feed and Tack and could have walked out with thousands had I not wisely left my purse in the car (I love small towns).  They have everything from holistic pet supplies to girly western/work wear which is the REAL reason I'm losing weight.  I am totally seeing myself in those cute size ten jeans next year.

I had to get some stuff for Ben yesterday at House of Nutrition and I was almost hyperventilating with the effort of restraining myself.  ALL I needed was SAMe, some minerals, soap, shampoo . . . .and INCENSE, and ESSENTIAL OILS and BOOKS . . .and . . . .and . . .leave me, save yourselves!

     LMAO Becca!

I could likely do the same at home improvement stores.  I could literally spend hours in Home Depot.  Tyler's bored in like 5 minutes, asking what else I need.  I don't NEED anything, I just WANT everything.  I could make a nice table with this..., I could put this on the wall in this room..., I could build the sweetest dog house if I only had this....  Yup, I'm like a kid in a candy store.  Its worse now that I'm back in DTown and have access to all of my dad's tools and not just my comparitively piddly collection.

    I've got more too!

Nurseries. I could buy plants til no end. Plants, and plants, and plants. And pots. And plant stands. And seeds. And soil. And garden decor. And... and...

Another weakness is also clothes. I don't always go totally crazy every time I buy stuff, but with the start of a new season, every year, I've got to go shopping!

*raises hand* My name is Kitty and I'm a book junkie.

I was spending over 300$ a month on books before I finally got myself down to two books a month. Lol

And the Petstore!! Heaven help Maze when I go to the petstore with a pocket full of cash.. *blush*  I can spend HOURS in the petstore and I don't even have the large name stores like Petsmart. I've just a locally owned store.. *drool...*

Y'know, it's weird, pet stores and online pet supplies just don't do it for me any more.  Possibly because after 18 years of really intense pet ownership a la rescue, I've come to realize The Latest and Greatest just ain't.  But, I currently don't do a huge amount of travel/competition with my dogs and that's what always got me in trouble before.  That and when Ben was sick about every other month.  I always was trying new food, new supplements, or just new toys or new beds/pillows/treats/grooming supplies for him to make ME feel better.  I realized that when he had his little trip into Liver Failure Land at the beginning of this month.  I went a little bonkers - Ben got a new bed, toys, about $100 worth of supps, and there's a case of NZ lamb Tripett and a bag of freeze dried fish treats on its way even as we speak.

I'm a basically weak person with no self control.  What can I say?  Why do you think I have seven dogs?  Ten including the livestock guardians?  Three of the seven were 100% "impulse buys" although they were all "free" - foster failures.  For some reason I can be strong when it comes to BCs and mixes, but hand me a total non-BC and I'm thinking of a million reasons that she should stay.
