OMG! Uncontrollable Book Shopping... What's Your Vice?? (alieliza)

Pet Stores don't do it for me either.  Maybe because I won't feed my dog anything that comes from one.  Especially a big name one.  (I am considering supplementing with a bit of kibble, but i'm not 100%)  When I go into a pet store its typically for something specific so I'm in and out.  For some odd reason the bird section intrigues me though.  Never buy anything in there, don't have birds.  When I do spend time in a pet store its to show Kali the fish or the lizards etc.

I do spend a lot of time in Home Depot thinking up things I could make for the dogs though...agility equip, doghouses, fencing, furniture etc.  So I'm not neglecting my dogs, promise.

I'm not good in Walmart, any pet store or bakery.

Same here and I'll have to add IKEA to the list.  Not so much the furniture but the whole downstairs area - bedding, rugs, baskets, neat storage, kitchen stuff, outside stuff ... it's a place you could happily wander around in all day just taking a break to run back upstairs to the restaurant for lunch. Office supplies. It's strange, but I walk into Office Depot and am thrilled by the possibilities of organization lol.

Book stores aren't good for me either. If I really want to read something now, I'll go to the store for it. If it's something I want for later, I'll order it for much cheaper online. Either way, I still end up buying more than I intended.

I'm also not good with any type of sporting goods store that carries lots of running sneakers.  I can't control myself around them either.

Books and books and mmm more books.  I stick mostly to discount websites and local used bookstores (or scour the library for the "for sale" section).  It's actually very dangerous to let me loose in any bookstore.  I read voraciously (mostly fiction, my real life is too stressful now that I just long for a fiction escape - but I do enjoy non-fiction as well).  This past weekend I finished 3 books and am working on a fourth.  I do tend to utilize the library when ever possible, but it has been YEARS since I've had access to borrow books from a "good library" (aka my town library is very very small - but at least they have some good stuff in there!).

Otherwise - I actually really don't care to shop.

Clothes and shoes, you can never have too much of either IMO Big Smile

Wow, I had no idea that so many people are that into book shopping! I learned something new today. lol

As far as my spending vice, I can't say that I have a lot of expendable income right now, but when I do my splurges are almost always on stuff for Gingerbread. I love all the seasonal stuffed animals that Petsmart has and I want to get him a toy everytime I go there. I also love getting him collars/harnesses/leashes, coats and sweaters, and shampoos/conditioners. I can spend hours shopping for that stuff online and I love going to every pet store I can find. I'm kind of a weirdo because I would rather go to a pet store than just about anywhere. Big Smile

CDs.  I have an obsession with music, and I love finding new music to listen to.  I also love books, tho I really only buy dog- or animal-related books, or nutrition books -- stuff that I will read or reference more than once.  Anything fiction or for amusement I will generally just check out from the library.  I do tend to spend way too much on food...especially at the health food store.

My vice is also books. I am working hard at making myself stay out of bookstores and I am also trying to make myself pick only one book when I do go into a book store.

I am losing my battle having bought 3 books this week from the bookstore and I am expecting a delivery from Amazon with 3 more.

The library gets me into *a lot* of trouble. I am incredibly forgetful, and I get so busy that renewing books just slips my mind. I end up owing more money in books than it would have cost me to buy them!

Me too! I am currently banned from getting books from all the surrounding libraries because of the crazy late fees. My mom threw a book away once that I got from the library. So, I owe over $300 for that one. There's no statue of limitations either. This was many many years ago and they still won't let me check anything out.

As far as vices go - dog stuff. I can be totally broke, needing new clothes, shoes, food, etc and I'll go and buy a dog toy. It's really stupid.

Oh my goodness, $300 for a library book!? Was it a super old historical book or something?

    • Gold Top Dog

It was a medical research book. So yeah, $300+!

They just opened a huge used book superstore near me. I walked out of there with 5 books for $5.48 I was on cloud nine. All books are 90% off. They also had a lot of student text books for college, I'll be sending dd there next year. I usually go to the library and get my books, I leave the library slip on the fridge so I don't forget to return them.

The Library just called here the other day.  Apparently Tyler took out a book in April and he still has it.  They guy was really nice though.  He said,"Tell him I'll even knock off the fine, I just want my books back!"  The nice thing about small town libraries I guess.
