    Your Dream Dog

What dog do you really want  but must either wait years for the circumstances to be right--- or may never get it at all?

Mine would be an Ibizan Hound. They are so beautiful, active, and just perfect! But, they are super rare so I doubt I'll ever get one (especially since I want to rescue from a shelter).

I'll answer for my mom too--She wants a Great Dane, but she probably will never get one becuase she has a fear of large dogs[:D]lol.

My brother wants a Saluki, but he has allergies so thats out.

    What about you?

Umm...I'm not too picky when it comes to dogs. I'm not into showing, or big on looks. I like cuddle bugs and I am big on behavior. So I rescued a puppy from a shelter who was calm and enjoyed being held, and we are working on obediance training. I'd like to rescue a pit bull puppy (I'm not equiped, emotionally or with the education, to handle an older dog that may have issues -- I'll leave the to the folks who know what they're doing). I have to wait until SO and I get married and move to a house (only one dog is allowed in the condo)...and I'd have to convince my SO...but when he sees any kind of puppy he turns to mush...he won't be difficult.

I've always loved Dobermans, and I actually had one (had him for eight years until he passed because of heart disease), and they really are my perfect dog.  I'd get another, but because of all the insurance crap around here, most places won't allow them, so I went to the shelter and saved a puppy instead.  ;)  Another dog I'd like to have is a Beauceron, but they're so rare and expensive...lol!

Salukis, as well as a lot of other sighthounds produce minimal dander.  Given high quality food and the daily or every other day brushing with a hound glove, there shouldn't be much of an allergen problem.

With respect to the OP, I already have my dream dog.  There are a bunch of others I want to experience, but the PH is the only dog I'll NEVER be without.

I want a shikoku, and I plan to have one in a year or two.

If I were to ever buy a purebred puppy, I think it would be an Aussie. But I really love shelter dogs, so I doubt if I ever will.

Oh yeah, I should say rescue dogs. Cherokee didn't come from a shelter, and she's fantastico.

Besides more German Shepherds, which I will have eventually, I want an Akita and/or a Basenji.  These are two dogs that really don't match my lifestyle or what I need in a dog's temperament, but I love them!  I also want a Saarloos Wolfhund but I don't know where to get one.

A newfoundland! Before I get any other dog, at any point in my life, I must have a newfoundland. .. maybe three. or four..

My other favourite is the border collie. Especially blue and red merles. [:)]

Don't know about the Akita, but you definately need a quirky sense of humor to live with a basenji.  But I find the Malinois and the basenji a good balance.  The mal adores us and the basenjis keep us humble.  And I, like Ed, already have my dream dogs in my brindlewonderkid - a basenji.  And Zpuppy.

Border collie.  I just love love love them, but I don't have an active enough lifestyle to keep one happy.

i dont have a dream dog.. as in breed... my dream dog is ... any dog lol
like the old saying goes... mortality is knowing you will never live long enough to own all the dogs you want.... and i want to own them all at least once...
but i still have my favourites... dobies and bulldogs.

honestly though, i have owned my dream dog three times in my life. they were super smart all three both mixes. one a mix of shepherd and who knows what else.. the other a mix of Dobie and shepherd/something.... the other was a husky/GSD/Chow.. they were all super smart and super loyal, protective and just fun.... like.. ol' yeller fun lol any kind of trouble a kid could get into with a dog, i got into it with mine.. getting lost in the woods namely.. they werent lost, but i was!!

i have a couple of dream dogs:

a saint bernard - i love these guys to death! but their drool is what turns me off from having one, so i dont know if i will ever get one

an english staffordshire terrier - depending on the breed ban in my area, i dont know if i will have a chance to own one ( they might have changed the wording to just "purebred american pit bull terriers", i am not sure)

and lastly a newfoundland - absolutly the biggest cuddle bugs, from what ive seen - their hair and drool turns me off from getting one, so i dont know if i will get one of those either

I don't have a "dream" dog either.  I'm not breed/gender/color/size specific, so I usually wind up with a shelter or rescue mutt.  I guess whatever dog I have at the moment would be my dream dog. [:D]

I'd probably be happy with a mix. There are lots of different breeds that I like, a standard poodle would be one of my top choices.

Yeah, I know I'm only gonna have mutts  in the future because there are so many great dogs out there without homes.

But its still nice to dream about owning an Ibizan Hound[:D]
