Sarah Palin ~ Unbelievable!

I guess anyone with a real problem with what it says on the money could always just opt not to use any. Smile

Thanks for the links, Thalie. That answered my question.

The money is worthless since Nixon took us off of the gold standard in 1971. And the coinage is nearly free of any actual valuable metal. Hence we have inflation that fluctuates and every time the Fed prints more money, the dollar devaluates, which raises prices.

Here's a nice article on how 'great' a politician SP is

    link

and here is the Youtube from SNL- bummer it has been pulled off by NBC

Shaking my head in major disbelief.....but, not really.  All in all, the article doesn't surprise me.

Ron, I glad that you are able to pay less for a car.  And, I fully agree that the UAW got greedy and screwed themselves.  However, the rank and file are not to blame for that, and, sorry to say, but with so many jobs leaving this country, it's rather difficult for them to go elsewhere to find work.

I think you cross-posted from the thread I started.

And yes it is difficult to pick up and start again. One of our other members is facing tremendous property losses in her family from Hurricane Ike. And there is no choice but to pick up the pieces that haven't floated into the bayous or out to sea and start again.

I know a little about starting from rock bottom. I have been homeless twice. I spent my 23rd birthday sleeping on the floor of a co-worker's place. And thankful for that generosity (having a dry place to sleep is a luxury.) The other time I was homeless, I had once gone for 5 days without food (not my choosing and I was not "fasting";). That is, I didn't even have money for food. It makes me appreciate what I do have and a resolve, heck or high water, to make sure I don't wind up there, again.

Hence, even when I am tired, I take overtime when offered in order to save up for the lean times or to pay some of my outstanding debts.

Nor am I without challenges. I have overdue property taxes. Overdue income taxes (thanks to mistakes from a previous employer), a gargantuan dentistry bill (and I have run out the year's dental insurance), and a car to pay for. On top of the other bills. I pay the car note, first. Without wheels, I can't get to work to pay for anything else.

Didn't surprise me but I am still surprised that people are so keen on her.  My goodness there are a lot of articles like this as people are starting to do their homework.  Read on Newsweek online that she has claimed that Alaska generates 20% of the US's energy supply - reality is that it is 3.5%.

The MORE I research the more concerned I am.  I wish there was a way to force people to read the FACTS about all the candidates before they vote.  I know so many people that just vote for who they like - and 'who they like' is based on TV ads and what others say.

Farenheit 451 - a person decides what everyone must or must not read. To force people to read certain things deemed by one person to be the truth and the only truth is the opposite of liberty.

I totally agree, though maybe not for the exact same candidate you might have in mind.

OTOH, that's the cost of a warm-body franchise. Everyone from the most erudite person in New York City to the tobacco-dippin' redneck from Frogknot, Texas can vote.

Is this a great country, or what? (I love that line in "Night Shift.";)

The recession in MI is due in large part to car manufacturers following Clinton's union-breaker, NAFTA. Did you know that Dodge Super Duty size pick-up trucks are made in Mexico? Labor is a 1/3 to cost of UAW labor. Being allowed to do that might save some car companies, and provide jobs elsewhere, even in Mexico, but it's at the cost of your state ecoomy. And I don't think the gov or the companies are going to undo that one. Which means, some people might have to seek better opportunities elsewhere.

Perhaps I had your thread in mind, but I responded to this portion of your quote.

I think that many of us have been through tough times, but that doesn't negate the horror of the state that I live in.  The unemployment fund that's out of money, the school budgets being slashed, road work not being done, cuts in police, from state right on down, cities that are totally bankrupt......overall, in so very many areas, companies aer consolidating, jobs are going away NATIONWIDE, and for McCain to say that we are better off now economically than we were 8 years ago???  Evidently, he lives on the same elevated plane as does W.

My heart goes out to anyone who was victimized by Ike.  I do see that W acted much more quickly this time around.  Perhaps has something to do with it being his "home state".

    That's quite a charge, there.

OTOH, NAFTA was brought to you by a democrat. Though that doesn't mean Dems are bad. And I don't think we can reverse time up there, either.

What about subsidies to go to school and learn new skills and trades?

What about MI offering tax shelter incentives to build businesses up there. Ya'll may not build as many cars but what about widgets that we can put on our cars? A widget being some silly thing we like to put on cars, like antenna balls. Can Flint or what's left of the Willow Run in Ypsilanti bring in a KIA factory and will the workers be willing to work without a union?

I guess what I am saying is that in an area that no longer builds cars, you might have a hard time finding a job doing that. You have the choice of either learning to make widgets or moving to where they build cars. And yeah, it stinks. I am not making light of the plight there.

People in construction are suffering something similar. The influx of cheap labor from illegal immigrants makes it hard to maintain a certain wage.

    • Gold Top Dog

Remember New Orleans?  Remember the delays in getting help to the thousands stranded there?  Not a charge, simply a comment.

Yep NAFTA was brought to us by a democrat.  When did China become part of  North America?

There is a huge and very long waiting list for said subsidies to go to school and learn new skills and trades.

And, Ron, in this economy, who would buy the widget?  People don't buy what they don't NEED these days, at least not in this area.  And tax incentives don't mean spit unless companies actually COME here....and in doing so they leave holes in employment ELSEWHERE.

I do blame the greed of the UAW for much of the trouble here.  But, understand that many, many industries throughout the state are auto related, and those are shutting down as well.  And those shops are not all UAW.

And at least those illegals are just that....illegal.  Something can and should be done about them. The rape fo MI has been condoned by our government.

Seeings how this thread is supposed to be about Sarah Palin, let me wrap this all up in a nice little bow by saying that 4 more years of Republicans in the White House, including Sarah, is not going to do our country a bit of good.  Where I live I see first hand the state of the economy and I fear for many of these folks if we get "four more years".

I don't like SP, nor do I like what she stands for,   It has nothing to do with her sex.  If she were SAM Palin, I'd still not like her or what she stands for.  McCain is too old and too unhealthy to have chosen such an unsuitable running mate, and if I had liked him before, I'd have serious doubts now.

Amen!!  What we've seen disappear locally here are a few furniture stores (one that has been here for 90 years) and restaurants.  People are spending money on what they need, not on what they want.  You don't have to go out to eat and you can certainly live with the crappy sofa a few more years if need be.  Hopefully the upcoming debates will shed some light on what SP really stands for and make people think a bit before they vote. McSame, because of his age, health issues and the stress of being president stands a good chance of not making it through his first  term.  Do we  really want SP for president???  Better we contact NBC  and get Tina Fey.

I can outstubborn anyone, seriously. We can debate this until we fall asleep.

It's kind of interesting that the two main threads about her started with not liking her for particular reason, in this thread, the notion that she is doing good in a poll.

Bush did not cause the hardship in Michigan but I guess he's responsible for it because other republicans have failed locally, which doesn't make sense to me. Sort of like, people hold Bush responsible for Hurricane Katrina. In spite of the fact that he signed Fed money over to Louisiana and New Orleans 2 and 1/2 days BEFORE landfall. That guard units and red cross units were actually staged outside New Orleans and did not go in by request of Mayor Nagan and Gov. Blanc. And that had nothing to do with Bush but he's still responsible, for 150 years of mismanagement of New Orleans, even though he's only approaching 70.

Michigan will find something. I know some pretty smart michiganders.

    • Gold Top Dog

As I recall, W did veto the funds for shoring up/rebuilding the levee's in N.O.  And anyone who seriously says that Katrina and her aftermath were not a serious clusterfudge has their eyes and mind clamped shut.

I don't believe that I placed the blame on W for the state of MI doom.  Truth be told, the UAW started this mess when they got greedy, NAFTA made it worse, and giving tax incentives to big companies for shipping jobs out of the country has made it worse yet.  Those tax incentives DID come from the current POTUS.

This thread is about Sarah Palin.  Yes, as an American I am sickened by the state of the nations economy, by many of the actions our nation has taken in the past 8 years, and I AM READY FOR A CHANGE in the leadership of our nation.

IF Palin were OBama's running mate I would not be casting my ballot for that ticket.  I do not like SP.  I do not like what she stands for.  I do not like the way she has used her elected office to elevate family members and friends to positions for which they were likely not qualified.  I do not like the personal vendetta of trying to get her former BIL fired from his job as a State Trooper.  I do not like the way in which she is avoiding answering legit questions about her actions.  I do not like the half truhs and the outright lies.

Big whoop that she's a soccer mom.  So was I.....and a baseball, basketball and anything else my kids were involved in mom.  I did Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, headed fundraisers......I was a MOM.  Period.  That doesn't make me qualified to lead the nation.  Big whoop that she can field dress a caribou.  I used to be able to field dress a deer and don't imagine that the skill has completely abandoned me, despite my personal distaste for killing "Bambi".  I can't do it, but, by golly, I'll gladly line up for venison from someone who CAN.  I have said many times that I have no problem with folks hunting for food, but I DO have issues with folks hunting soley for trophies.  Can we REALLY believe that just because someone has been CIC of the NATIONAL GUARD and lives next to Russia that they are ready and able to lead the nation AND to be an expert on foreign policy and national defense?

She is NOT every woman.  She is NOT the gal next door.  Despite what the party wants us to believe.  And that's much of the reason they selected her.....because women could relate to her.  Sorry, but I can't relate to this woman.  In my bra burning days I did believe that you can have it all.  I learned very quickly as a wife, mother and professional that while you can have it all, you can't have it all at the same time.  Not without some serious damage to one area or another, or maybe to all three.

Let's get real.  SP is totally unqualified, probably even for the position fo Governor of Alaska.  The party put her out in an attempt to win women voters and those who can relate to her. I can't find any other reason to put forth such an unqualified PERSON for such a high office.  And while initial approval ratings are high, I suspect as we learn more and more about this woman, those numbers will take a sharp drop.

And, I too can outstubborn a mule.  I won't change your mind Ron, you won't change mine.  My mind isn't closed, but I've not seen a darned thing that makes Sarah any more palletable.

Overall a great post Glenda and the above quote sums my position up very nicely

Ron - for the record - I never said that everyone should have to read the same material just that they should have to read THE facts.  And yes facts can be spun out in an article BUT one can't change the facts. If they are well and truly facts right?

What I think people should do is read and educated themselves and I do think that as more people discover reality instead of reading all the slander the truth will inform.  About all the candidates
