    Sarah Palin ~ Unbelievable!

I just heard on my local news that Sarah Palin's approval rating is over 90%!?!?!?!?!?!? WTF??? This has to be a MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!

While I don't agree with her on everything, I like her and plan on voting for McCain/Palin. I know of many others that admire her too, democrats, republicans and Independents.. I also think all the bashing people are doing to her is going to back fire, the pettiness is really showing it's ugly head.

Wasn't it Governor Palin that killed the federally funded and approved 'Bridge to Nowhere' project.  I am sure proponents of the bridge called that a MISTAKE.

I know she's got a very high approval rating, but 90% would surprise me. Who was polled?

She was originally supporting the project then later changed to reflect the voter's opinions. That is, she is reponsive to the voting public. If enough of you and I have a reason against something, she will consider it and possibly side with us. I think that's called "elected official who takes the public's concern to heart. But I could be wrong. And she could have decided the public was wrong and gone ahead with it, anyway. No doubt, she will be criticized either way.

As Ricky Nelson sang in "Garden Party," "You can't please everyone..."

IDK, my mom was likely going to vote McCain but now will be voting Obama because of her.

Personally, I don't give a fine rat's rear end about bridges to nowhere--she is waaaaaaaayyyy too conservative (and this is coming from someone who though Obama was way too liberal to vote for--turns out he is less way-too-liberal than she is way-too-conservative.

Does anyone in this country care about the issues any more?  Or is it all about who can stay in the news and draw a crowd?

LOL - I almost feel like you and your mom, but I'm just not sure anymore and I hope like heck that the decision gets easier after (if) they start saying what their plans for the country are.

Here's just a thought though - will her views on sex education or hunting in Alaska have as severe of an affect on this country as the possibility of more huge bailouts like the one that's going on right now for the housing industry? I mean, can her conservative views truly change things? Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see her having the power to change Roe v. Wade or even what's taught in classrooms.

*sigh* - I'm sure glad the elections aren't being held today.

The issue of the "bridge to nowhere" is the misappropriate of federal funds (aka-your tax dollars).  That was a gross misappropriation, and she held the correct (IMO) conservative view of saying "thanks but no thanks" as she put it, if they want the bridge, they'll build it themselves.  That is how it should be with projects of that nature...the responsibility of the state, and let the residents of that state vote on whether or not they want their state tax money going to such a project.  However, when the federal government decides on things like this (called "earmarks" or "pork";), you and I, and every other American, have no say whatsoever in how our tax dollars are spent.  People in Congress decide to put money on certain projects to basically buy votes, appeasing campaign donors, appeasing to lobbyists, etc.  This is where I agree 100% with Palin and McCain.  McCain, by the way, has never, in his entire congressional career, voted "yes" on an earmark spending bill, and that is where you can say his record speaks for itself and I don't know if there's another politician in Washington who can say that.

Neither she nor McCain would actually have the power to change anything themselves.  I don't know how many, if any, members of the Supreme Court might be thinking of retiring or getting older/sicker, but if  they appoint justices that think the same way they do, they would certainly be able to change whatever they want. I just quit paying attention to polls .... every one I read says something else. We don't know who they're polling, where or how many people.

ETA:  I really liked what Joe Biden had to say on the abortion issue.  He said "I'm a Catholic.  My church opposes abortion and I follow my churches teaching on that issue.  However, I do not feel like it's appropriate for me to impose my religious beliefs on other people."  That's all I'd ask of an elected official.  Live your own life as you see fit and let everyone else live theirs.

Any reliable poll should state how many people were polled, and over what days (most are over 3 day periods).  But, I myself have never been polled, and I don't know anyone who has, sooooo....who the heck is actually getting polled is a valid question!

My understanding is that two seats will likely become available on the SC THAT is a major issue

As for me I will not ever support someone who wants to do away with the right to choice - I don't believe this makes me a 'liberal' but could care less what I am called.  I have counseled rape victims and incest victims.  Anyone that would require them to give birth to a pregancy from such an incident is a  heartless, unfeeling,self-involved human that has forgotten that in the US we claim to be a society that protects freedom of religion, speech, etc.

Anyone who thinks abortions will go away is very naive they will once again go underground and just be performed in unsafe settings except for the wealthy.

This election will be as divisive as any I have been witness to; my neighbors who as a guess have always voted republican have already had an argument about it as he is for McCain/Palin for the tax plan - she is against her and will not vote for her.

Exactly - how sad that the US is becoming as intolerant of 'others' as many of the countries we rail against

    Joyce I agree 1000%

Sadly  What does drive me nuts and call me  whatever is the  Hollywoodish view of the  Pregnant 17 year old daughter.

I HATE all of the Starlets, Celebrities etc who are all about "Gee we are having a BABY"   yipppiee yeahhh.... And we are going to wait to get married till I can fit in the right dress or the schedules opens up or ????  Darn it all a Baby is not an accessory, It is not an Accident, falling down and breaking your toe... that is an accident. Ouch go to the ER get a cast and stay off the foot for a while.... Bringing a LIFE into the world is NOT an accident and I am one of the folks for whom Birth Control NEVER worked. 3 different types and doses taken faithfully and 3  pregnancies.  One lost , two adored. But Darn it I stepped up married the FATHER not FatherS Tried like Heck to make it work.  So it did not. At least my daughters are never had to ask what My Grandchildren have asked " Do I have a Real Father?  Does He even KNow about me? Did He ever care?"   I would have HATED her marrying either Bum.  But At least the kids would have had a name on the Birth Certificate,  They would not be one of a rapidly growing number of kids who haven't a clue what half of their DNA is the result of....   The Bradgalinas who claim they won't marry till Every One can Marry   Shoot and Give me a Break!  Do you honestly think the world will adjust so you won't keep popping out kids with out a certificate?

When Britty's Baby sister who Worked for DISNEY had her baby and got press coverage for moving home, keeping the baby for mom to raise etc  I felt ill..... Walt must be spinning.

I do not want folks to be in unhealthy marriages. I do not want them to tolerate each other when it is apparent they were not truly suited... I want them to keep their Knees together and stop popping out kids wh o one way or another will pay for the selfish desire to have kids.  I adore my youngest and when she claimed she was "woman enough to keep the baby since she had been woman enough to make it"  I wanted to beat the snot out of her.    The 67 year old Hubs and Myself 51 , are raising this 2 child family while she deals with her "issues" and gets long naps on her days off.   We Love the kids. and I am seriously looking into what Chastity belts will look like in a couple of years.   As long as we , as a Nation say hey no problem it wasn't actually your fault ....... then we as a Nation will be raising , paying for and sadly justifying to a kid why they do NOT have that father for a sports or school function.   Sorry I respect the fact as a Mom she wants to support her oldest child and first Grandchild I do not respect the fact that she will possibly be the second in command of our country and her values are so screwed up.   But then it may be easier to be a kid in a family with that much money, and publicity....  after all it won't be born on Medicaid and will not have to qualify for food stamps to be fed... something most Republican Positions want decreased dramatically....

This is the perfect response, and why Catholicism is one of the few religions I can stomach. I think most Catholics nowadays feel this way, at least the ones I know do (and I come from a Catholic family, so I know A LOT of Catholics, LOL!). While they don't condone abortion (though they don't condone any birth control, so...), they're not gonna burn at the stake the people who have abortions IME, nor are they going to push for it to be outlawed.
