oh dear... Hurricane Gustav headed for the Gulf - good vibes please!!

please push this thing away so it doesn't head for us...  Its going to be a bad mother...

Will enter the Gulf of Mexico 2 am on Sunday morning.  We will know more then... But pray it doesn't come our way... I don't wish it upon anyone but man.... This thing is gaining strength...

I can already see the name Gustav being retired...

Let's all huff and puff and blow it towards vacant land!

grrr..... When is storm season over?!

We're heading out to the other coast later this week to rescue a bunch of dogs from Fay..... I've only heard bits and pieces of this new one, last I saw it was heading towards Mexico.... guess I better check again!!!

I hate to say it But I have the same vibes you seem to be having.... Fay dumped 23/4 inches of rain on us Yesterday ...no biggie but when I saw Gustav I cancelled the trip  planned and arranged for the RV to be finished by Friday   We have taken our share of damage here in Alabama... with the tiny little tip that is our part of the Gulf Coast you would think we would get more misses than hits!  The last biggie to hit us was Ivan , Kat was to the West which put us on the Crap side of the Storm so we were without power for weeks.  Chuckie the 16 foot Allligator escaped the Zoo when the waters raised and was found swiming  down the middle of the main drag by the Methodist Church !!  ( he has since been returned to the Little Zoo That Could)   If you need a place to go let me know!!   Batten down the Hatches Guys it's gonna be a wet one somewhere !!

Bonita of Bwana who will be sticking 8 dogs, 9 people , 5 cats and a tutle in ONE rv and high tailing it if it heads for Pensacola to Gulf Port Cause That's US !!

Yep - we already have rooms booked for us and the dogs... I just have a bad feeling... Tropical Storm Eduourd was nothing to what this thing is brewing into....

The thing that most of the rest of the world doesn't understand is that Florida is built on solid rock.  UNDER that is the Florida acquifer -- it's a big body of fresh water UNDER that rock.  Up from that feeds the lakes and rivers.  But that's how Gator A can swim thru the hole in the bottom of your friend's lake and come up in YOURS.

When the acquifer gets 'high high high' like it is now, it washes away the rock on which we all sit.  When that crust of rock on top breaks thru somewhere it's called a "sink-hole" and roads, cars, houses, entire car dealerships, etc. fall thru into nothing but water.  sooooooo we're already at a high point of the acquifer -- it is pretty well "full" and that's why there's so much flooding down here from the Fay-came-onto-land-FOUR-times debacle.  There's literally no where for water TO go -- there's no ground for it to sink INTO.  Places like Melbourne (just south of where Megan and PIrate are) were flooding not from the sea but from underground/inland river water.

No one in Central or North Florida needs ANY more water and I'm pretty sure South Florida is wet-to-its-ears as well.  At least north of us there IS clay underneath (which doesn't absorb water fast nor easily, but it will absorb some) and at least those folks needed some rain.

But dang -- now it's just going to ruin the crops folks do have planted.  This isn't Spiritual Circle but prayers and good thots needed for this one.  Rather than have it hit ANY land, lets just have it go out into the sea and get lost forever.

    GO AWAY GUSTAV!!!

Prayers, good thoughts and "no more water" vibes coming from us, too.  Too bad you can't send a bit of the wet stuff our way. We could use a good soaking and it will most likely be at least two months before we see a drop, if we're lucky.

No kidding! I was talking to my friend that lives in Tampa last night and she was complaining that it rains just about every day there. I told her I haven't seen even one teeny-tiny cloud go by in months but I'd sure love to.

When Fay was headed their way, her daughter asked her to come stay with them to be safe. Ha! Her daughter lives in Melbourne and while Fay barely dropped any rain on my friend in Tampa, her daughter was nearly flooded out of her home. Just goes to show how unpredictable these are both in terms of where they're going and how catastrophic they'll be. I hope Gustav fizzles out and doesn't have an affect on anyone.

Melbourne was super flooded with Fay - that's were we are picking some dogs up from (adoptions are at a standstill while people dry out, and more are turning in).

We were all prepared over here, but it went after the east coast instead....

It's still kinda soon to tell where this one will go, I looked at the maps after I posted before.....

I have to agree with Callie. I have been praying this all day long!!!!!!

Not to mention, we are supposed to be moving on Tuesday and things are already crazy nuts here. Hubby starts work on the 6th, so moving on the 2nd HAS to happen!!!!!!!

How weird -- my mom and I were talking during TS Fay about how awful it would be to have to be moving that day. We both said we just *wouldn't* but I guess if you have to? I hope we didn't jinx you!

I don't want it to hit TX or FL, but I definitely don't want it to come to us either. I'm an hour away from LA's coast, and an hour away from New Orleans. So go away, Gustav.

    • Gold Top Dog
I'm gonna be in Houston area this weekend and I fly back to Cali on Monday, so I am really hoping this thing doesn't hit TX, so I can get home!
