We are seriously 5 minutes away from the Gulf of Mexico.... I am right on the TX/LA border.... So if that thing hits... UGHHH...

I'm keep my fingers crossed for all of you gulf coasters too. Just seems like there is always something to worry about. I've been down there during storms and see how fast the water just rises and sits with no where to go. One day during a rainy season in S Carolina we were on a golf course trying to get done before the rain was to come back...since it had already been raining there a lot.  We got a few holes in and it started....we sat in our carts with all umbrellas up under as much shelter has possible....and after about 45 min. we gave up and drove back in. It was the scariest drive back because the water was coming up so fast,,that we could not see the cart path and we couldn't tell the difference between a lake or grass, .besides the rain blowing in our face. It showed us just how dangerous that water is down there when you get too much.

Soon , we will be complaining about the dangers of snow and ice here in Ohio....but right now we will send good vibes to you all.

I was wondering the same thing.  It seems like as soon as one passes, another one is already on the way.

Maybe it's just me, but Gustav has me feeling nervous and I'm not even close to a potential target. The guy on the Today show this morning finished his story by saying "one way or another, there will be a major hurricane hitting the Gulf Coast this weekend"  New Orleans isn't even going to open any shelters because their plan is to just get everyone out of the city - smart!!

Governor Jindal has declared a state of emergency for Louisiana. He seems to be quite proactive and has a game plan already getting in action. We will have a huge (5,000 crates on their way) local pet emergency shelter as well as people shelter (different locations) that will open Saturday. A couple of southern parishes have also already declared an emergency situation.

BT Momma, if this lands where they predict it will, you will be on the west side and should not bear the brunt of it. We will know more in 48 to 72 hours. Get ready but do not panick yet.

Here are a couple of links about emergency kits :

I hope everybody stays safe and sound.

yes we are getting prepared though... the models showed it more western this morning and then moved it back eastward again... i don't think they know for sure... but if its on the more western side of LA, then they are issuing a mandatory evacuation for us on Monday....

So we are watching close... we have both the girls taken care of already and ready to load up if need be....

Raise your hand if you are in Gustav's direct path *raises hand*

Okay, this sucks. I live in Lafourche Parish, and I work in Terrebonne Parish. I'm 30 min. from Houma, in Terrebonne. The two parishes are practically mushed together, and guess where the damn storm is coming. Argh!

Prayers for everyone, I don't wish it on anyone, but I really hope it doesn't hit New Orleans. That would be the most horrible thing in the world. How much more can they take???? :(
