    The Mysterious Blue Kong

I know I've posted about these before, but I finally ordered some (our old black King Kongs are in a very very sad state)s, they arrived today and they do in fact exist! And they are a Kong product. In fact right on the package is printed, "Available from Veterinarians Only" (unless you can use Google!). Anyway they are supposed to be 25% stronger than black Kongs and are made of a rubber that shows up on X-rays (not that this is a huge concern for me but it might be a major selling point for Lab owners!). They are also autoclavable though I doubt that matters to anyone here! They're apparently used mostly for lab animals as environmental enrichment.

I'll let y'all know how they're holding up. Our old black Kongs I think really suffered from all the freezing and thawing (we feed moistened kibble frozen in to them). We'll see how these do.

Abbi has a blue kong.  It has some discoloration from the freezer, but has lasted a long time.

I WISH I could get Ella to take a kong in her crate. But she has nothing to do with toys when she's in there and will only lay there and is happy sleeping when I'm gone.

She's an unusual dog. I don't know many that won't take a kong.

But...can we see these lovely blue kongs????
I'm quite interested and may purchase one just in case I can get Ella to use one.

It took Conrad a while to get in to toys in his crate. He for a while was just all about sleeping through the stress of his sep. anx but after a few months he started to be able to enjoy toys and food in there.

See, I've even put yogurt in her kong and froze it and she STILL wouldn't take it!
I guess I should thaw it and try something else.

Wow! They do exist! I have only ever seen them in the vets office, and I thought it was just some odd delusion I had had, because I never saw them anywhere else. I need to get some.

I've never seen the blue ones[&:]  We've got a red one that's held up pretty good for 3.5 years now!!

Teenie has a green Kong. It's just the regular strength, though, and was sold wrapped in Christmas tree printed plastic.

I might have to try some of those blue ones. The black is holding up pretty well, with Emma, but if the blue lasts longer.... Why not? LOL.

I've heard they're making a purple Kong for senior dogs. [:)]

What will be special about the purple ones for senior dogs?

I have never thought of putting food in them and freezing them.  What else can you put besides yogurt?  Does it make a mess as they eat it?  I want to know more!

Yogurt, peanut butter, cottage cheese, bannana, chicken broth....anything squishable and freezable. We feed entire meals out of puzzle toys, so we do kibble and peanut butter (and bone marrow if we have any), moistened with a little hot water, and then frozen. Sometimes I add yogurt. With the right sized Kong you can shove a chicken wing in there. Rawhides. Small bully sticks. Cookies. Bread. Anything you can fit in that hole that your dog will enjoy eating.

I looked into these when I last saw you post that they were supposed to be 25% stronger than the black ones and couldn't find that claim anywhere.   One place that sold them clearly stated the black ones were the toughest (some police training dog site) I did read that they were x-rayable, but Bugsy doesn't eat the kong he just destroys them so I reloaded wiht the black ones.  Let me know how it works out for you

I have a purple one. It's soft and squishy - like the puppy ones. Boomer's puppy one is still good as new after 1 1/2 years, but he (obviously) is not a hard chewer.

I stuff them either with canned or Nature's Variety raw medallions. Frozen, it lasts anywhere from 10 min to an hour depending on the dog. If they let it thaw before they go after it, it can get messy, but it usually doesn't last that long.

What a great idea!  I am definitely giving it a try this week.  I am sure Mosby will love this!

Well [linkhttp://www.bio-serv.com/newcatalog/eeprod/canine/kongblue.html]here[/link] it says they're 25% stronger then "regular Kong toys" so I'm not sure if they mean by that the red ones or the black ones.

They are definately as strong as the blacks, I can tell just from handling them. We'll see if they're stronger. They're not any more expensive than the blacks, just less readily available, so I thought I'd try them out and see.
