Just a fun baby name thread.

Just a fun baby name thread.

So my sister Suzi found out today that she's having a boy. She's due in January.

A couple weeks ago, she told me her top two baby name choices at that moment (not sure if they've changed). For a boy, she was thinking Winter (though probably spelled differently), and for a girl, she was thinking either Ryan or Ryanne (also probably spelled differently). I was thinking the girl name wasn't bad, and was secretly hoping it was a girl (even though I already strongly suspected it wasn't..), but since it's a boy...I'm trying to come up with names to try and steer her away from Winter, LOL.

She likes, well, for lack of tact on my part, weirder, less common names. She used to be obsessed with the name Willow (for a girl), River, you already know she likes Winter, Ryan and Ryanne...so anything on that same kind of commonity scale would be best. She likes Gaelic/Celtic type names...her dog's name is Keva but spelled in some weird Gaelic way. She also likes Native American kind of names...she named Cherokee... Basically she likes to pay some kind of homage to either our ethnic heritage (she's most proud of the fact that we're half Irish, and part Cherokee... I don't think she cares much about the German, Welsh, English, and whatever else we are), or family members (Winters was our grandfather's last name, and we have a cousin named Ryan).

But honestly, I also just like talking about baby names, so that's also motivation for starting this, LOL.

She's coming to visit next week, so my other sister and I were thinking of having some suggestions for her... not really to put down Winter, just...to suggest others...

I'm sure I sound like a judgemental brat, but she can name her kid whatever she wants and I'll love him just the same. Just having a little fun.

So come up with some names! I know we like naming dogs on here, so let's try to help name my nephew!

I like the Gaelic/Celtic names too, and I came very close with both boys to using the name "Seamus" ... but I decided against it because I was afraid they'd get teased about it since it's pronounced "shay-mus." I could almost hear kids yelling "shame on Seamus." Smile Looks like I'm not going to be much help here.

If I ever have kids, and had a boy, I would name him Aidan.

    And, the problem is????, LOL!!!

That's OK, my brother is about to have a nephew named Zander---wait don't tell your sister, she'll probably like it!

My friend has a son named Conor-I think that's a Celtic name.

My new nephew's name is Ciarann. Just don't ask me to pronounce it right now.. Lol. I haven't heard it spoken, just typed. But it's Gaelic. Not sure what it means. But it looks neat. Smile

Oh baby names....we have decided on Devin for our little girls first name but can't decide on the middle.  It will probably be Elaine which I am not as fond of but hubby and SD are and it is his mom's middle name.  A lot of people don't like Devin for a girl and the reality is it is our child and we will name her whatever we want.  I am sure your sis feels the same way but having a little fun with it, especially if she really isn't decided yet can't hurt.

OK, so I am looking in my book and the ones that are unique that I like that are celtic for boys are: Evander, Aidan, Brogan, Gavin, Keegan, Kennedy (I liked this as a girl name too), Teague, Trevor.

I tend to like the androgynous names as well as the trade names.  Winter is actually listed under the "modern" names in the book I have.

I know your neice's name is spelled Alleen and is prounced differently but Aileen is the closest I find in this particular book.  The suggested brother names are: Gleen, Gordon, Douglas, Lyle and Warren.  I personally don't think any of those are unique enough.

BF tells me if we have a boy, he wants him named "Xander Alex" because get it? It's not Alexander lol

That is cute!!! I love that!!

My favorite boys names are Trevor Lee Patrick Andrew, and Logan Tyler. JJ hates them names. He says that those are little kid names and no man wants to be called those names when their 80 years old. Well I will be dead when my kids reached 80 years old so I will name them whatever I want. Anyways those are my favorite names since I was 12.

If Addisen would have been a boy, the name would have been Spenser Haeden Charles *insert last name*. I'm not sure why I wanted my child to suffer with that many names, especially considering the last name (Exnicious), but that was my plan. If I do have a boy one day, I plan on sticking with that name. I have no idea what I'd name another girl.

If I ever have a boy his name will be John Christian *last name*. John after my Dad, Christian after Jeremy's Dad and Jeremy's middle name.

If I ever have a girl her name will be Samantha Ann *last name*. Samantha because that has always been my favorite name, and Ann because that's the middle name of almost all the women on my Moms side of the family, and it's my Grandma's first name.

ETA, both my and Jeremy's family (and us) are big on traditional family names. I wouldn't name my child something unusual, but I do like some of the unusual names.

    And, the problem is????, LOL!!!

Haha, I wondered if you would have something to say about that. I almost put something in there like "(no offense Lori, I think Willow's a great dog's name)". LOL. I really do. I don't even think it's a bad name for a baby. I don't like Winter much, but Willow (for a girl) I wouldn't complain about. I was just again trying to give an idea of what she likes.

And Sarah, I really think she isn't totally set on Winter. If she were, I probably wouldn't suggest otherwise. I wasn't in love with my other sister's choice of baby name when she first picked it (mostly because it with their last name is sort of a tongue-twister), but since she was set on it, I didn't tell her I didn't like it...and now I can't imagine my nephew named anything else. If he ends up being named Winter, I won't say anything about it, but until it's definitely his name, I'm feeling free to suggest other names. Big Smile

And I'm impressed at you remembering Alleen, but she's actually my cousin's daughter...so she'll be this baby's second cousin?, not sister.

I'm guessing Ciarann is pronounced like Kieran...though who knows. If it is, it's something like "KEER-an". And I think I'll suggest that to Suzi...different spelling and all. She might like it a lot.

Ooh, and Colton! Definitely suggesting that one. Rylan too, it's cute and it's similar to Ryan, but not quite. I like Seamus a lot, but it's probably too common for her. Same with Aidan and Conor. Evander's cute, but I'm too reminded of Evander Holyfield, lol. I love Logan, but that's on my other sister's short list..she'd be mad at me if I suggested it to Suzi, LOL.

    Rylan too

I like that too. I was throwing around Ryland for a boy (when/if I have one). And as weird as this sounds, I really like the name Cash.

I think a girl would either be Charlie or Kayden.

Ummm....is there something you're not telling us Lori?  hehe

A neighbor of mine had a son named Keelan, I liked that.  I also like Kirtland.  And Keenan.  I like K names...Kolton?  hehe

We had a terrible time picking Kelci's name.  We only settled on it I think 3 days before she was born.  Even now, I sometimes forget her name momentarily.  Bad mom huh?  A well, serves her right, my boobs hurt...Crying
