Love or Hate It

I don't like sigs that are so long in length, that they create a scroll bar at the bottom of my screen.  To read the post you have scroll back and forth.

I don't like anything that is more than 200 pixels high. Too much scrolling. [;)]

    I like....
    • Glenda's "A house without fur is not a home."

    I really like this one.

I really like mudpuppy's "Communicate and Motivate".  Wish more people would do that with their dogs...[:)]

I also don't like the religious ones.  I like it less when religious people get so darn offended that others don't share their feeling.  That attitude causes too many wars - in famillies, and among nations.  [sm=2cents.gif]

Glenda's always makes me smile - "A House Without Fur is Not a Home".
Although, maybe the Poodle lovers don't care...Aussie lovers think it's true.

And, sorry, but I detested that awful embryo thing.   Nothing like drinking your morning coffee looking at fetuses...what the heck is the point of that?

I actually don't mind Liesje's ticker factory.  At least that's dog related LOL.

BTW, this was meant in light-hearted fun.  Glad to see you took it that way, Rog.
And, I know you don't hate me. [;)][:D]

"Only two defining forces , have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ, and the American soldier. One died for your soul, the other died for your freedom."

    I really like this one.

I can't say I pay attention to signature quotes or sayings til this thread.  I am kinda getting a good chuckle out of people taking offense to this thread.  Is that bad?  Come on...take it easy....life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

Might've been better to ask which signature lines everyone really likes and not ask which ones people hate....I'm just saying [:)]

I agree. I think those are really gross. Just my opinion. [;)]

I don't really pay attention to signatures unless they are so big they take up alot of space, or they poke my inner grammar nazi with a stick. By poke I mean really poke - not minor stuff. Good example, on another bbs someone has "if your not having fun your not doing it right" .  I really want to fix that.

Isn't alot (sic) suppose to be a lot?

LOL good one. Actually it's not really a legitimate word. Like I said, minor things don't speak to the beta in me, just the major ones.

I like the signatures with nice pictures of people's dogs, both because I like to see pictures of people's dogs and because it helps me keep everyone straight if I have a picture to associate to the name!

I really hate it when people use full-sized photos in their signature, though. Keep it small, folks! As far as religious quotes, I don't mind them, but I would never have one even though I am religious. I guess they come across as preachy.

I'm VERY what you call religious. I enjoy reading the quotes of other religions, doesn't offend me at all. Unless they say something like Jesus stinks or whatever. That would make my hair stand up a bit. I don't think most BBs allow that sort of thing.

I have a friend who has the IXOTE fish made into a leggy critter - those DO offend me greatly - but wild horses will tear me apart before I'll offend HER by telling her. Life is too short and her friendship is certainly not worth fighting over a symbol.

Anway, I don't think most people who have those understand how offensive they are, though. Imagine if I displayed Buddha sitting on a toilet, or turned a Star of David into a Roswell Grey to make some point.

The IXOTE is a symbol now of the early suffering of the church and their quiet courage and witness - as opposed to the later paternalism that is more familiar to us when we think of Christianity's first thousand years. Many modern Christians returned to embracing the IXOTE to remind us of our new commitment to be servants and lights, not rulers of the earth.

Then you have that symbol of peace and service turned into a deliberate battle cry, a slap in the face. Not very nice if you think about it. Usually these are displayed by people who would rather die than participate in desecrating a First burial ground.

Well, as to the signature lines. Christ and the soldier both died for our freedom, just in different senses. The Bible actually has a nice verse about it - "You'd think twice about risking your life for even a friend and countryman, but Christ gave his life for us even though we hated him and were his sworn enemies." It's not really something I'd put on a dog board though. Maybe a military related board, that would be cool. So I have a teeny beef with the two men died thing too. But it's not something I lose sleep over.

My sig is huge. I keep trying to trim it down and it doesn't look right when I get it back up. I'll fix it someday. Time, time,, time, no time.

One of my favorites is "Billy, the jerk" - nothing like truth in advertising, though he really doesn't live up to it most of the time. But it's still funny. He has good rotating sig quotes, too.

Someone else has a fantastic line and I can't remember now what it was. Billy's was my favorite until I saw that one.

One of my perennial favorite quotes that people use is, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." The verbal genius of Groucho Marx.

I leave you with this, my future sig: I really want to use this - it's just a little religious, so it makes me smile, but it's dog related. It's also literary, which is a "thing" of mine - and Scottish on top of it.

Recollect that the Almighty, who gave the dog to be companion of our pleasures and our toils, hath invested him with a nature noble and incapable of deceit.

    Sir Walter Scott, 1825

ETA: Yikes. My Greek letters didn't come out right - IXOTE would be pronounced ichthus.

I like silly little quotes and funny ones. I also enjoy seeing peoples dogs and agree, signatures should 1. not be flash and 2. not be a full sized picture. That really gets distracting, so Amen to all who said that above! [:D]

I like Glenda's too. My house is DEFINITELY a home, then! :) Janice's silly Rupe faces comes to mind, too!

I actually kind of find the Soldier/God thing offensive. While I'm very pro-America and pro-Troops, I just don't feel that much should be compared to Christ. And the "You're a liar" one makes me teeth hurt, I feel it's a challenge. Sorry, I realize they are the same signature... but...

    Anyway, interesting thread, Anne!

"Only two defining forces , have ever offered to die for you,
Jesus Christ, and the American soldier.

One died for your soul, the other died for your freedom."

This one bothers me for a couple of reasons, the most major one being that it is simply untrue. Not to be anti-American or anything because I'm not....but in the sense in which that quote is intended, British soldiers have "offered" to die for me too. I think the quote is degrading to the armed forces of other countries.
