Yet, because the dog was on top of the car, the news reports it and it becomes big.

the dog...was terrified...and pooped all over itself Aina, and any idiot who did that, would be on MY local news. In fact his "celeb" status probably got him out of a fine with the local AC.

NO REASON for that dog to be put into that situation. The man is a tool...and that's my opinion.

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow, I didn't actually need another reason to think so low of Mitt Romney, but....wow!

The reason the dog was on top of the car was because he had diarrhea, not the other way around.   And geez, a long trip with kids and dog with diarrhea in the car is hard.  I've done enough traveling with a sick sibling in the car to wish we could strap them to the top of the car, lol. I have gotten sick because it was so gross.  I don't get sick easily.  Most of the time I can't vomit unless I make myself.  Things that make other people sick don't affect me at all.  And we were in a 15 passenger van where we each had our own row. Get my point, It was GROSS!!!  Dog diarrhea isn't much better.  Riding with it in the car for a while is nasty.

Yeah, someone is going to say "I have traveled with my dog having diarrhea in my car."  For what?  30 minutes?  Try a few more hours and you would probably have a different opinion.  Try having a very sensitive stomach to that smell and you would have a different opinion.  Try having four crying kids in the car and you may have a different opinion.  The thing about you people is you expect everyone to be just like you and follow your set of preordained rules without really knowing what the situation is.  You couldn't be there. You don't know the people or what other things they may have tried.

Things aren't as clear cut as you make them out to be.  Yeah, he made a bad decision in the heat and smell and grossness of the moment, however if you guys are making it the end all for who you choose for the election then our country is really going to hades in a hand basket. (Or dog crate as the case may be)

Aina...seriously...I have a hard time believing you are excusing this man's behavior. If your dog is ILL....take it to the vet and treat it! Vacations/long trips...are not over my dog's health! For all they know they dog could have had parvo, or been seriously ill.

I think that if someone were to come to this forum...a nobody and describe what happened...you would have a lot to say to them Aina, and it wouldn not be "oh I understand, that's okay..." :eyeroll:

BTW..who is you people..? People who think strapping a sick dog to the top of a car so you can get someplace on a schedule is a wrong thing to do?

That's not the story that I uncovered, and I researched it quite thoroughly when it first came out.

Even if it occurred as you say, that the dog had diarrhea first, then the obvious answer to anyone with a smidgen of common-sense and empathy for the dog would have been to delay the trip for a day (maybe a few hours is all that would have been needed), while taking the dog to the vet and treating him for whatever was causing the diarrhea.  Or, if for whatever reason they absolutely couldn't have delayed, how about boarding the dog with the vet so he could be treated while they vacationed?  It's not exactly like he's ever had to pinch his pennies and couldn't afford the boarding fee.  But instead, he thought the smart thing to do was strap a sick dog in a crate on top of a car.  Duh.

    • Gold Top Dog

Well gee.  Let's see what his options could have been.  Vet trip?  Treatment?  Put off the trip for a few days?  Board the dog with a vet?  Have a friend stay at home with the dog and give whatever meds were necessary?  Strapping a sick dog to the top of a car wouldn't have been anywhere in my top 50 choices.

Seriously. The fact that the dog was sick makes it even worse, if that's possible. Putting a dog on top of a car would not ever even cross my mind. Could you imagine strapping a kid, even in a car seat, on the top of a car? Why is a dog any better?

Why, yes!!!  As a matter of fact I can!!  Big Smile I had many occasions over the years when I seriously considered strapping one or both to the luggage rack.

I wonder if Obama supporters would speak out against and not vote for him if it came out that he did something like this?

Honestly, what Romney did was make an ubber stupid and indefensible decision.  However, that seems to be the norm in this election--whether it's sitting in a church for 20 years then trying to claim that you had no idea the the pastor was flipping nuts, being "friendly" with an unrepentant bomb thrower (William Ayers), or being Ms. Doormat while your husband chases every skirt in sight.....

Yup, plenty of stupidity to go around...........

I would DEFINITELY speak out against him, and DEFINITELY wouldn't vote for him in the primary (I didn't anyway). If it still came down to him and McCain in November though, I would still vote for him.

Romney creeps me out big time anyway. The dog thing is just the icing on the cake.

You are all dog lovers.  You know lots about dogs and options and stuff like that.  Until Oprah most people wouldn't know what a byb was unless they came on here.  Most people don’t have the view that dogs are as special as you think they are.  To some they are just dogs.  In some places they are even food.   You need to see things from other points of view.

I mean to me rabbits are really special pets, as special as dogs, but to some on here, they are raised like chickens for food or to feed them to their snake.   Some people, regulars even, have posted pictures of their dog having killed/killing a rabbit.  You think I like that?  No, it is disgusting and sad.  I hate it.  But will I not vote for someone because they have eaten rabbit?  Probably not.   The election is not about that, it is about who would be the best at running the country.  Romney has proven his competency at running things in many arenas.  I already said he made a bad decision from a dog lover's POV, but if that is what you are going on, then we are screwed.

Yes and yes...people who deliberately cause their pet animals distress are not people I am interested in supporting.

    • Gold Top Dog

    more excuses...very sad.

BTW...eating an animal is not a thing I have had a problem with Aina. Deliberately causing your pets distress so you can go on vacation and stay on schedule...yes I do.

    • Gold Top Dog

So, if instead of strapping the dog to the top of his car to take with him on vacation, he would have just cooked it up and eaten it then everything would be fine and dandy?

See, to me rabbits are pets and should be afforded the same courtesies as other pets and not be eaten by humans.  I own a rabbit that is a breed a lot of people use for food and he has just as much personality as a dog.  To me eating them is as bad as eating a dog and breeding them to eat is worse than puppy mills.  Most people, including you apparently, would disagree with me.  Does that make you a horrible person?
