The front porch topic of debate is.......

IDK.....if you (collective) buy meat produced by factory farms (which most meat is unless it is stated otherwise by the packing company) you are supporting a situation much more hellish than a dog strapped to a car every time you go to the grocery......

    sillysally....

How about just owning it..."yeah he's a dog abusing tool to you...but darn it I don't care and I'm voting for him!" instead of "you (or to use Aina's precious phrase..."you people";) guys should like or excuse what he does because I do!"

This has nothing to do with owning it or not owning it or making excuses (to me at least).  Clearly it was an abusive thing to do.

I'm just pointing out that we (collective) will absolutely freak out because the guy puts a dog in a crate on top the car, but without a thought march to grocery store and buy meat from animals that have spent their lives in conditions that would make most puppy mills seem like happy land.  Such animals are crammed into stock trailers and some of them are trampled to death on the way but nobody seems concerned about that and are perfectly happy to contribute to such treatment via their money--but strap a dog to the top of the car and it's all over.

It's just an interesting example of how some animals are sacred......

Romney should have gotten the nomination in the first place.  It is an administration position and he is most qualified for that.

    Agreed there!

Well, I'm from Massachusetts and just as glad that boy is gone from here.  He's the same kind of guy who runs most major heartless corporations, and doesn't really "get" what happens to the little guy, the seniors, or the working poor.  Not everyone who ends up in those categories is undeserving of a little help.

I think it would be very interesting if Obama picked Caroline Kennedy.  Rock star meets Camelot.  That would cement a lot of the women from Hillary's camp who remember that period of time, and who are sore because a black guy bumped a woman off the top of the ticket.  Which is, incidentally, what he was hand picked to do by those dems who who saw Hillary '08 coming during the last convention and didn't like the idea.

And, it would be interesting if McCain picked Condoleeza Rice.  He may not, but he can't get elected with another stodgy old guy by his side, so my guess is someone much younger will be chosen, and from a region that he needs to carry to beat Obama.

There's an old political tactic called "go where the ducks are, if you want to hunt ducks", so I don't think either candidate will waste much time going after voters that aren't likely to switch sides.  What they'll do if they're smart is to go after likely supporters and undecided, and do things to insure that they don't get apathetic once convinced.  It's all about getting your supporters to actually go to the polls.

This is true.  Both parties already have their base--it's those wayward souls in the middle that they will be fighting for now.

I think it would be interesting of he picked Caroline Kennedy, but I doubt he will.  From what I understand she does not have tons of political experience either and that seems like it would be a liability.  He'd probably do well to pick someone who's been around the block a time or two....
