The front porch topic of debate is.......

So, my husband and I and random neighbors given the day and time do that great summer past time of porch sitting. My neighbors porch is the porch in question, since she is disabled we all come to her. We share the paper, drink tea, soda, water, beer (depending on time of sitting) and discuss the world as we would have it! This is the friendliest porch in Louisville, or so we think, because the people who drive by all wave, we have more friends than we know!

So this week we got on politics, after all there are only so many days left before we have to choose a new leader. A neighbor a couple of doors down started the debate this week with this question, and I added my response.

"Who do you think the VP/running mates are going to be"

My choices were..Hilary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice.

Reason? Both are woman, if one chooses one and the other does not, they risk losing alot of voters to the other party on gender alone. Not that I think this is a huge difference, but in this race, I think it is going to matter.

I don't know, but it's sure going to be interesting.

I'll be surprised if Obama picks Hillary.  I just don't see that happening for a number of reasons.

A few months ago I thought that the VP picks would be a deciding factor for me.  But I've been so disappointed with McCain and his campaign and general Republican behavior that his VP pick is no longer relevant to me.

I highly doubt he will pick Clinton, just as I doubt McClain will pick Condi.

The choice of VP is going to interesting to say the least.

I love Condoleezza Rice.....she is so well spoken and professional, it's amazing. But, I don't think she will be picked.....and Billary won't be picked........

I hope McCain chooses Romney.  Romney should have gotten the nomination in the first place.  It is an administration position and he is most qualified for that, not some senator.

I bet if Obama doesn't choose Hillary he is going to choose the person who got him to the top.  Lets face it, he didn't get there by himself.  He is a newbie when it comes to politics compared to most.  Someone is behind the curtain.

    Agreed there!

I agree, but I don't think she would even do it if asked.  I think it'll likely be Romney, and that's OK--I liked him.

I think Obama has a better chance if he picks Hillary, but I think they'll be snowboarding in hell before that happens.......

    Truley
    Condoleezza Rice.

I would choose Rice. Not because she's a woman or because she's black. I would choose her because she would be the right person for the job. The job should go to the right person, regardless of race, gender, religion, etc. I do have one condition, though. I wouldn't choose a person who has been part of a ethnic supremacy group, such as David Duke, formerly of the KKK. A pres has to unite people and erase perceived color boundaries. You can't do that if you've spent the first half of your life associated with white supremacy.

OTOH, Clinton has had prior experience as VP, when her husband was in office. Big Smile She already knows the address. It would have been a few firsts to see her win as pres. The first woman pres, the first spouse of a pres to become pres. But that said, Rice would, IMHO, be the better person for the job, though I would like to see her run for pres. If she gets to be VP, she might just make it.

Both woman should be strong contenders in the field. If you'll pardon the crass language, they've got the stones for it.

Yep.  One and the same.  After eight years of having the country run by a lunatic, do we really want to put another one in the white house ... as VP yet?

Ya know, I could have forgiven him for the crate incident if he'd simply said I made a mistake, it was bad judgment, I know better now.  But what does he do?  He has his campaign manager say that it shows his problem solving skills. Confused

I so wanted to send an e-mail saying get a clue -- good problem solving skills would have involved putting the dog (crated) in the station wagon and strapping the luggage on top of the car.  It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out, now does it?

If we look at the dog incident objectively, it is no worse than someone riding with their dog crated in the back of a pickup truck.  Romney built a windshield for the dog and it was apparently tied securely.  If the dog had fallen off it would be a diferent story, but that didn't happen.  Yet, because the dog was on top of the car, the news reports it and it becomes big.  If someone made such a big deal about a pet riding crated in the back of a pickup the public would think the news reporter was crazy.

I'm just glad I don't forsee ever having to ride in his car.  doG only knows where I might wind up. And yes, I think there's a huge difference between putting a crate on top of your car and putting one in the back of a pick-up, assuming the pick-up is enclosed on all four sides.  A crate sliding around in the back of a pick-up isn't likely to wind up  bouncing across a couple of freeway lanes.

To my way of thinking (which IMO is certainly objective) they are hugely different.

A crate in the back of a pick-up is surrounded on three sides by at least a little bit of metal, thus protecting it at least somewhat from wind and flying debris.  On one side the dog is protected by the cab of the truck.  Occupants of a truck can look back through the rear window and visually check on the dog, if the crate is positioned to allow it.  That wouldn't be possible, of course, with a crate strapped on top of the car.  Most pickup truck beds have "D" rings that can be used to strap a crate down securely.  I can't imagine how one would achieve that level of security on top of a car, especially considering the wind turbulence something as un-aerodynamic as a crate would be subjected to.  In that regard, rigging up a "windshield" would likely make the situation worse, as it would increase the amount of wind resistance, thus putting more force on the straps.

I do not see them as the same thing at all (and I'm not a fan of dogs in the backs of pick-ups, crated or not).
