How much do you spend on dog food per month?

    • Gold Top Dog

We feed California Naturals Herring and Sweet Potato and we spend $27 dollars a month on dog food and that feeds 2 dogs.    There is a program buy 12 bags get the 13th free and well we are in the same time every month they say where we buy it.  And thats about right.

We are very happy with it, especially since both dogs love it and one of my dogs is a very picky eater

My dogs are both small dogs by the way.  We get a 15lb bag and that lasts a month

Which TOTW do you feed? And one bag of either feeds all 3 of your aussies for a month? Makes me feel a little better about paying 40 bucks for a 30lb bag.

Before I joined this forum I was feeding my poor dogs what I thought was good dog food. Pedigree and Purina. I thought paying 20-25 bucks for Iams was crazy!!! Now you'll find me  in the dog food aisle looking at the ingredients of dog foods forever and not thinking twice about spending 35-40 bucks on food.

Before my poodle got sick we were feeding foods like purina beneful and pedigree.   And we were going through a bag a week.  I remember we were paying around 50 dollars a month on low quality dog food.  And now we are spending half of that for a good food.    Who woulda thunk it?

This company comes with a 100% guarantee that your dog will live 2 years longer.

I was listening till I got to this part.

Same thing jumped out at me too, Jackie.  I'm thinking maybe this is some sort of advertisement that just managed to slip under the radar here. Hmm Then again, maybe I should start eating it myself.

I dunno how Under the Radar this is.  This thread is over a year old...  Julie was still buying food for Dakota.  OX pulled it up, obviously in a search for something to do with cost of food per month...

I wonder how they would prove that claim?  Nope, Fido should definitely have died two years ago....must be the food.

One other thing, I wouldn't want an open bag of dogfood for more than a month....If it was gonna last me 3 months, I'd buy a smaller bag... It'd be so stale...unless its packed with preservatives, in which case, there goes the good food idea...

The thread is over a year old but the post that seems to  be advertising a food that guarantees two more years of life just popped up  today.

I leave a 33 lb. bag of dog food in its original bag and slide the whole thing down into one of those big plastic containers with a snap-tight lid.  It seems the same at the end as it does at the beginning and in the summer it lasts about 3 months ... in the winter it lasts about 2-1/2 months.

This is an old thread, but oddly I just calculated this like 10 mins ago before I logged in.

It's $65.00 to feed the two weims, approx, per month. He eats about 2lbs she eats 1lb. And then $15 to feed little Nik a mix of homecooked/kibble and raw.

I thought this was pretty good, as I calculate I'd probably end up spending about $100 in kibble for the three if I went with Evo.

Don't get me started on treats Indifferent I don't wanna think about it! LOL

Oh I know Joyce.  I just meant that the post wasn't a part of the origional conversation, and went unnoticed at the time.  It was tacked onto an old thread to make it seem random or casual, when it really wasn't.

Really?  The kibble I have doesn't even have a 3 month shelf life I don't think.  I'll have to look.  I keep it in the deep freeze to be safe.

Emma eats about $50 worth of prescription diet, a month. Ena eats a $10 bag of kibble, and maybe 5 cans at $2 apeice? $20 worth? It's not much, for her.

Now, when you start adding treats, and supplements, and Emma's medications, it gets REALLY expensive.

What kind of dog food do you feed your dogs?

    • Bronze

Do you even know what half of the ingredients really are in your dog food?
Look at your dog food bag and check for these ingredients.

    Chemical Preservatives = BHA, Ethoxyquin

By Products = Ground up Beaks, Feet, Feathers, Heads  (Indigestible)

Corn, Wheat, or Soy = Known Allergens (Indigestible)

    Beef fat = Indigestible fat

    Animal Digest = Guts

Some companies will even use ground up road kill or euthanized cats and dogs in their food or will use animals that are too
sick to be slaughtered for human consumption.

    ---

So tell me you don't think that if you switched your dog to a brand that only used human grade quality food, carefully selected by one of the top vets in America that your dog could not have the possibility of living at least two years or longer?

You know what I'm not going to bother anymore, you guys obviously don't want to hear about this stuff. You don't want to have a bag of dog food that sits around for more than a month? Yeah the food your buying probably sits around in some semi truck for months going untouched. At least these guys will ship it directly to your door, freshly made. Mmm that smells like grandma's cookies.

You might want to check out our Nutrition section.  Most of us want the best dog food we can afford for our dogs.  A dog food company that would claim to be able to guarantee a dog will live two years longer if it eats their brand of dog food, raises a red flag in my mind. I don't know if you work for the company that makes the food you are talking about or if you just truly believe in them but that claim makes me very suspicious.

I feed Evo.  You might want to check out their website.

I've used Innova before, they own EVO

Very good brand too, but there are some indigestable ingredients that they have and I don't want my dogs to eat.

    BLUE is also very good.

Also just wanted to ask if any of your dogs bags come in plastic ones with a zip lock or are they just plain paper bags?
