Do you eat first or feed your dog first?

He'll sleep as long as there's a human in the bed and sometimes longer.  He stretches, yawns and gets up when I come out of the shower.  I think if I stayed in bed all day, he'd be right there with an occasional trip to the yard. Smile

That is so cool!  Bugsy is awake about 5 every morning, waiting for an eyelid to open, or to hear a voice or grown, anything that might indicate a human is coming to life Big Smile

He isn't pushy about eating in the morning but goodness gracious if you are available and haven't fed him by 5 pm you will know about it.  He will nudge and nudge, stand by his bowl, bring you stuff, ring the bell to the door to the garage (where his food is).  Non stop.  He isn't just being a nuisance though, when we have fed him late (anytime after 7 this happens) he pukes.

We eat first, In the am and in the pm.  We walk them first thing in the morning and while they cool down we eat then feed them.  We usually eat first for dinner as well.  I don't feed them til after 7pm.  We walk again at 10:30pm then I will give them a snack before bed.

We always eat first in the pm, just because that's how things work out.  If we eat breakfast then we eat first also, but it really isn't on purpose--it's just the way it works out.

I don't really eat in the morning, but I feed them pretty much first thing. I feed them outside and then come back in and get the kids ready during the school year. At night we usually eat first, but not on purpose. Some nights I even wait until the kids are in bed before I feed the dogs.

Sometimes I feed him before I eat sometimes after I eat it depends what I am doing. He only gets a meal a day so its usually in the afternoon sometimes in the morning, it also depends on what I am doing or where I am going. My uncle always told me to feed him first because it was much kinder than to feed him after I ate.

The first thing I do when I get up and feed the dogs (6 AM)!  Just because I want them to have some outside time before I leave for work.  Since I then have to get my son up, feed him, dress him and then get me ready its easier to have them out of the way.  My DH feeds the dogs every night around 5 PM.  So both morning and nights is before we eat.  However, there is no reason behind it - I don't think they realize they are eating first.

All my dogs will sleep as long as us though so on those mornings when we sleep in 8.9 or 10 they sleep too.  The minute they know we are up they get fed.  If I have company or want to eat early on the weekends they eat last.

What I do purposefully is make sure I take a bite before offering to them any people food.  I guess its ingrained in me from all the threads and training.  If I am eating Pizza and they are waiting for the "Pizza Bone" (crust) I take a last bite before handing over to them.

As far as meals they are "go with the flow dogs too" except for Brooke, she will sleep if we are but the minute we enter the livingroom she wants her breakfast and at night we know its dinner time becasue of the way she follows us around.  Riv.. he starts to get excited when he hears his bowls clang together.

During the week our schedule is the same everyday - up at 5:30 Lex goes tp the backyard to potty while I take a shower. When I get out, usually around 5:50 wake up DH then feed Lex and while he's eating ( He won't eat unless I stand near him) I make coffee for DH and I and pack my lunch. In the evening I get home around 5:00 and eat dinner very soon after. Lex gets his dinner between 9:00 and 10:00.

On the weekends I feed him when I wake up usually around 9:00 or 10:00 ( If its already hot outside, he wont eat, sometimes he does that during the week too). And dinner at the same time.

In the morning the dogs get fed first. In the evening it is the opposite - we eat and then the dogs eat later.

I don't eat in the morning, so if I'm the one getting up first in the am, our routine is walk first then she cools down- then she eats.  With my SO he eats first, walks her, then feeds her.  She gets fed in the afternoon usually eating before us (though if she's at work with me, usually at the same time I'm eating).  At night, it depends on what we're doing for dinner for the humans.  Typically she has eaten before we're sitting down.  She gets NO human food from plates.  She'll get cottage cheese frozen in a bone, or occasionally a bit of hardboiled or scrambled egg, but never from the table or a human dish.  I don't like a begging dog.  While she'll eye our food she gives up quickly, and I contribute that due to us never feeding from our plates or table.
