Poop scooping (be honest)

I've been laughed at for carrying two pocketbooks with me - my regular pocketbook with my personal things and a small bag for Prancer's stuff.  That bag has a roll of poop-bags, an empty yogurt container for treats, and a spare 6 ft lead (I'm always afraid the flexi is going to break).
Trying to convince my husband to take that pocketbook when he walks Prancer is an entirely different issue ....... LOL

I have been caught short when Tojo poops more times than I have bags for. Lucky for me, there's a pooh-bag dispenser on my regular walking route.

What a good idea... wish we had those

Alright well I'll be dead honest.  On occasion, my dog (or dogS when I had two) would sneak an extra poop in on me!  And I'd already used up my bags and thrown them away.  Most of the time mine poop on the parkway side, not the front-yard side.  And so, I have done the "fake" pick up and left it.  YEP, I ADMIT IT!  I HAVE LEFT POOP!!  *dons flame retardent clothing*

I have a routine - before I leave the house, I do the "pocket pat-down" and say out loud:  KEY, POOP BAG, TREATS.  I don't want to forget the poop bag or my house key since my son hates it if I have to wake him up at 0530 to let us back into the house.

About dog poop being fertilizer, I was under the impression that cat & dog poop is too acidic for that use.  Otherwise, wouldn't people be happy our dogs pooped in their yards?

I've been caught a few times. I usually take 4 bags with me, which is enough for two poops per dog. Sometimes, however, one of them will get in a rogue third poop. I've done all sorts of things in that instance. I'll try to roll it into the street or under a bush, one time it was trash day and there was a cardboard box in someone's trash that I ripped up and used to scoop. There are a couple bag dispensers in certain places that we walk, so I'll raid those. And yes, a couple times I've just left it and gone back to pick it up the next walk.

At the park even if they go off the trail to poop, I pick it up. It's a very densely used urban park despite being wooded, and is also in the midst of being rehabilitated and cleared of it's invasive flora and having it's streams brought back and dog poo is a pretty noxious substance. If everyone left their dog's poo there there'd be mountains of it and it's actually one of the many reasons I get irritated for people who let their dogs off leash in the park. They don't see where their dogs poo and can't pick it up.

We have a small yard so I have to pick up poo there too. I sometimes feel like I spend half my life scooping turds.

There have also been a couple times where it was dark out and I plum couldn't find the poop! What can be done? I'm only going to look for it for so long.

This happens at the dog park.  You can see your dog taking a poop across the park, you follow what you think is a straight line, keeping your eye on the spot where you think the poop is .... and when you get there, it's gone.  Just disappeared.  When this happens, I just find a different poop and pick it up so it all balances out in the end.  Max will poop at least twice, maybe three times on a walk.  A couple of years ago I bought one of those little "Bags on Board" things that hang on the leash handle.  If the  roll feels like it's getting small, I pop a replacement in my pocket before we set out. I left a poop there once because Max started kicking up the dirt and leaves when  he was done and by the time I got the bag torn off and opened, he had it totally buried so I couldn't find it.

We have been caught unprepared and quite horrified & embarrased...usually we kick it off into an area where nobody will tread, or pick it up with something like leaves, etc.

I have been caught a few times. Thinking he's done, I've thrown the bag away only to have him decide to leave one more deposit. I will look for something to use. I have used a kleenex from my pocket and an empty paper cup. BUT, I will also admit when all else has failed I have left it. BAD MOM!

...and there's always that one time when they've eaten something they shouldn't and drop a nice, juicy, mushy, wet one...without a bag, we've left it...although one time, in a very public place, we did fetch some water and rinse it as best we could.

On a hike in the woods, I don't pick up unless it's on the trail.  If I don't have poop bags on me I get a stick and fling the poop off the trail.

Always have them with me on a walk.  I keep several rolls in my van and several in the car.  I have poop bags out in the agility field and in various pockets of various jackets.  :D

I've had to walk the dog...take it home...then come BACK later with a bag, trying in vain to recall EXACTLY where it was. I have even...*blushing* left a handy STICK, ciggy butt, plastic wrapper, whatever I could find nearby, sticking into the poo like a flag to help me find it LMBO.

I haven't been in this situation before but I would be grateful to the good samaritan that gave me a bag - I agree it is embarrassing.

I used a headlamp this past weekend for early morning and after dark walks with my dogs.  Walking 2 to 4 dogs on lead and trying to carry a flashlight is impossible.  The headlamp may look super dorky but man, was it handy!!
