Poop scooping (be honest)

I have been caught short when Tojo poops more times than I have bags for. Lucky for me, there's a pooh-bag dispenser on my regular walking route.

I was very grateful for a poo-bag dispenser the other day on our morning walk when Kujo did 2 number-2's and i only had 1 bag [sm=blush.gif]

I'll be honest. I don't pick up after my dogs in the woods - they don't go on the trail but off the trail in the brush/wooded area. If I'm in my neighborhood, I most definitely pick up after them. There have been times though that I forget baggies and that's an awful feeling standing there in someone's yard...ugh.

While camping, we have a "poop bag" that we leave out at the curb or behind a tree while we're at the camp site. Then we use a scooper to clean up then deposit in the bag which then goes in the trash when we leave.

Well when at the dog park I dont clean it up. Blaze goes off and in to the woods to do it. Now this dog park is 100's upon 100's of acres, all woods ect. he never does it on path. And I sure as heck am not going in to look for it in thick bush and trees. No humans walk out there as there is no path so it doesnt matter. We rarly walk around in my neighboor hood (we use the dog park about 3 hours a day. But if I do walk him I bring a bag.

I also always have bags with me.  If we are walking in our neighborhood or in parks of the park that people go in I pick up.  But, any hikes that are in the woods I don't.  If she goes a little too close to the trail I just brush it into the woods with a big stick.

Fortunately Rascal has small poops, so I have been known to use some sort of implement to push a tiny poop under a bush.

I have also used various contraptions of leaves and sticks to pick it up.

I've also - this is the grossest - scraped pieces of poop up with a stick or rock and then thrown the offended implement away. Thank goodness for small poops, is all I have to say.

Rascal has this annoying habit of trying to space out his poops as much as possible - it's not unusual for him to make three small piles within the course of a half-hour walk. I try to take at least 3 bags with me every time we go out, but it doesn't always happen, and sometimes he gets even more creative with his spacing. Little stinker!

I always have a minimum of 3 bags when I walk Talus....
I was at the airforce base once and didn't have a bag...I emptied one of the big black garbage containers into another and used the big garbage bag for his poop...
I just couldn't leave it there...

When my cocker was younger and seemed to be sick quite often and trying to adjust to new food, he'd poo sometimes 6 times on a walk.

    Yikes!

At the Humane Society I wear scrubs pants that have one back pocket.  I like to take smaller bags like what the newspapers come in.  Sometimes I can't pick up the poop b/c it's too runny, but they don't really care as long as we try to get the dogs to poo off of the path.  If a dog didn't poo in the dog run beforehand, I try to keep the walk on HS property incase it poops and I can't pick it up.  Inside the runs they have pea gravel, so we use poop scoops.

I'm a volunteer at a large animal shelter too.  I bought the [linkhttp://www.sitstay.com/cgi-bin/sdisp.cgi/EQGLT.lg.jpg:EQGLT.4.lg.jpg]Gentle Leader Treat Pouch[/link] and it has a front pocket specifically for putting bags in it.  There is even one on the back with a zipper that you don't see in the image.  That way, you can always leave two bags in there.  And not have to worry if you forgot until it's time to replenish.  The Outward Hound bag on that same page might be good too.  It has a pocket in the front, but not the back.  Doesn't seem to have as many features though, which is why it's less than half the price of the Premier one.

Well my pockets usually have extra baggies, I too pick up 99% of time.  We sometimes walk to an area that people take yard refuse to and I don't usually pick up there.  We walk farther back in the field, cars can't acess so its only Bog and I. Also there one other field we go to and by the time I get to that area can't find it anyways, so ok 98%.

This reminds me of the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to me on a dog walk! Once, Tojo was doing his marathon poop thing (every so often he insists on 3-4 little poops instead of one big one) and I usually only take two bags, and Tojo started to poop on someone's lawn. Normally, I would move him off the lawn so it's at least not on someone's property, but he was running along and just started pooping before I had a chance to move him. Then I look up and notice that the owner of the property was standing in their living room looking right at me! I felt so stupid! As soon as he was done I ran back the couple blocks to the pooh-bag dispencer and ran back. They were still just standing there when I got back - staring at the poop.

There have also been a couple times where it was dark out and I plum couldn't find the poop! What can be done? I'm only going to look for it for so long.

If we are walking in the woods, I absolutely don't worry about it.  After all, no one is there to pick up after the various wild critters either.  And there ARE no trails in our woods.  I'm not saying that anyone should pick up in a situation like that.  But when we go for walks, we have to go to town and I always have the backpack loaded with stuff I might need.  DH laughs at the number of bags I take but he can laugh....sometimes they don't go at all, sometimes they go multiple times and I'm not leaving that for someone else to clean up.  When we lived in the historic district I got soooo angry at having to clean poop up from my front yard because others walked their dogs and left it in my yard...that's just rude.  Not like I don't have enough dogs to clean up after!

LOL Maria, now THAT is commitment!

I take 3 bags with me, and rarely use them all, but better to be safe than sorry. Most of Ben's exercise is at the local park with a big group of dogs that we meet up with every day, so if I HAVE forgotten one then I can count on someone else to have a spare.

Ben does have a habit in the winter of going in the bushes in the dark. I don't clean that up, because I'd just never find it. I'd never leave it on the sidewalk or on someone else's property though.

Once Ben did go on the sidewalk and I found out I'd forgotten a bag. I was across the street from my local corner shop so I ran in there and asked the owner for a bag. They know me there because it's where I buy my milk, so the guy just had a laugh about it and handed one over.

Same here. Living right next 100s of acres of corn, feed grain, and milo, I'm not going to worry about and consider fertilizer without a delivery fee. Considering that Texas Hwy. 5 runs right there, and people cast off stuff, dog poop is the most environmentally friendly thing. That is, what can you see easier in tall weeds? Dog poop or a beer carton?

I have been caught a couple times. Once I quickly moved my dog into the street so she wouldn't leave it in someones yard. Another time after I got home I got a bag went back on my bike and picked it up.

My golden will not go if she is on a leash (not a chance!) so if I forget one with her I just make sure I put her in our back yard when we get home so she can relieve herself.

What irritates me are the people who have no intention of cleaning up after their dog and risk spoiling for everyone. Our neighborhood park now has two bag stations so if you forget your own you can get one there. This park is also a school (elementary) they are very welcoming to the dogs, even allow them to frolick off leash (after the school is out). Occassionally I see dog stuff and it bothers me. Yes I pick it up which is really not pleasant since it isn't my own dogs. I guess some people don't realize what a priviledge this is.
