LOL, about the vicious chow puppy!

My dad is always trying to convince me that Willow has so many health problems because I don't treat her like a dog.

I am wondering what "treating like a dog" entails.  What DO you treat her like then?  A cat possibly?  Does she have a bed on top of the fridge?  Maybe he means you treat her like a human?  Do you make your partner or friends wear a collar or lead?  Do you feed them out of a bowl of the floor?  I'm not trying to be insulting to your dad, but I've also heard this little nugget and it always confuses the heck out of me!

I'm "too soft" to train a "real dog". Yes, because my dogs are small... they are easy to train. Forget the fact that there are VERY FEW PRT doing obedience, and even fewer Chinese Cresteds. Forget that Chinese Cresteds are considered impossible to house train, and in a month's time.... Ena is there.

Raw is full of pathogens, and will kill a dog.

    PRT are hyper and uncontrollable.

I spoil my dogs too much. Maybe they are "spoiled", but I don't consider consistant training and socialization spoiling. I  also don't consider clothing for a hairless dog or fleece coats for a minimally coated dog spoiling. Dogs don't care about the number of collars they have, so that doesn't even count. That is for me, LOL.

Friends of ours insist on saying "King Charles Cavalier Spaniel" or "Spaniel Charles Cavalier King", never the correct way of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.. Angry It's something so simple, but it drives me nuts!

They also say "Rockweiler" and they believe firmly that Dobermans are horribly vicious.  They claim that a family member was a breeder of Dobermans for 20+ years, and says that one day their fine, and the next they'll rip your face off.. can't be trusted at all...Confused Oh, they also feel that someone who breeds 3,4 and 5 different breeds of dog all at once is not a puppy mill, just an experienced breeder of reputable quality...Stick out tongue Yeah.. ok.. whatever.... Needless to say, this isn't a topic that is often brought up in discussion.

I had never heard anyone say it this way before, so it really got my goat to hear them say it... (pulling out hair) Stick out tongue The other one that get's my goat is Golden Lab or a Yellow Golden... I dunno why people want to keep changing the breed name?? lol

Because they don't have a clue but don't want to let on that they don't know, so they bull their way through with their own names. I've always thought of the light colored Lab as Yellow Lab. That name, in conversation, helps distinguish between the Yellow Lab and the Golden Retriever. And some people mistakenly call a Golden Retriever an Irish Setter. And, around here, if they don't know the proper breed of Collie, then it's a cattledog.

That REALLY aggrivates me...I don't know why....I don't like "silver", "white", or "red fox" colors either; there is only 3...black, chocolate, and yellow.

Well, anyone who knows anything about dogs knows that they're meant to be tied out back to a tree to wear a circle in the yard and keep the neighbors up at night barking!   And everyone knows that dogs don't feel pain (or cold or heat, etc) and all that "baby-ing" is just us replacing them as children in our lives.  Wink

And let me add to the irony or dichotomy, if you prefer. Why is it, especially with guys, the dog is just a dog, does not deserve "human food" and should mostly be outside, as much different from a human as they can be, all of a sudden become an extension of the man when it comes to neutering? Now, the man identifies with the dogs spark plugs as if they were his own.

    • Gold Top Dog

good point. i figured guys just identify with ALL "spark plugs"...

    • Gold Top Dog

    Lori I PM'd you.

Just to clarify though, when people say "you should treat him more like a dog" I just wonder what ON EARTH they mean by it.  I'm not implying anything or trying to insult anyone.  I am genuinely pretty bemused by that little bit of advice whenever it is directed at me.

Today, Ena got called a Powder Puff, and Emma got called a Red Heeler. By groomers. That my boss is considering hiring, for his other store. *facedesk*

I think a big problem, in Dobes, is that they're prone to hypothyroidism, among other things. Bad breeders don't test for anything, so it can appear that the dog "snapped".

oh, yes, "All Dobermans TURN on their owners".... and sometimes I hear "at 7 years old" tacked onto the end.  Some think the delusion is based in observations of untreated hypothyroidism (making Dobes cranky).  Others say it's Dobes out-dogging their owner.  Whatever, it's a falacy.

Doesn't matter, though... my own Dobe isn't really a Doberman.  She's really a "Rockweiler", according to a woman just the other night.

Also, I should just let my dog "be a dog!  If that means tearing your house apart or biting a baby's face, so be it.  A dog was meant to be a dog."  I should stop using that leash, and especially that e-collar.  Just let her roam free and do whatever she wants.  No need for vet visits or shots - dogs were never supposed to be pumped full of drugs.

And, yes, once Jada gets a bite on, her "jaws will lock... and once she tastes blood, she'll always want to fight."
