I'm scared (female issue) UPDATE

    I'm scared (female issue) UPDATE

I have found a pretty good sized lump in my right breast and I am so nervous and sick to my stomach.  I was just at the gyne in April.  The Dr. noticed something and said we should probably do a sonogram, but then didn't.  I wasn't too concerned because I have felt it there for a long time and was told it was just muscle (this was my left breast).  But now this is my right breast and it is pretty big.  I am so scared of what this could be.  My mom and her sisters (all in their 50s) have never been diagnosed with breast cancer, but their mom was.

So, here I am waiting for 8:30 so that the stupid office opens up so I can make an appointment.  40 minutes to go.

I am only 26 and this can't possibly be cancer, right??  Ugh, I hope I can get an appointment today...

{fingers crossed for you}  I'm sure if you tell them why your concerned they'll find a way to squeeze you in.

I really hope you are okay.  My nona had breast cancer, and she is perfectly fine!  But I know how worried you must be.

I found some information online on finding a lump, I hope it gives you a little more insight and doesn't freak you out more.

I will be thinking about you!!  Let us know how the appointment goes, but tell the receptionist what is wrong, and I am sure they will get you in sooner rather than later!

{{{{HUGS}}}}  Don't panic.  It may just be a cyst.  I had one before.  It is around your "time of the month".  My friend used to get them around the same time of the month due to the increase hormones, etc.  Whatever tests they want to do though, get them done. Just don't panic!  I will be thinking about you!

First off, take a big deep breath and try to relax.  It could be, but it could also be a fatty tumor, a cyst, a funky milk gland.....it could be a lot of really not scarey stuff.  So try to focus on that instead of the Big C.

For many years I've had fibroidcystic breasts.  Any time I get a new doc, they freak, but, I can say, gee, that's been there for years.  I also had a major scare last year when they found an area of density in one breast and wanted to redo the mamogram....and it took them two months to get me back in.  So I understand that fear all too well.

If this is indeed something to worry about, you've caught it early and if it's not, well, gosh, you;'ve worried yourself sick over nothing.  Probably gotten a few wrinkles on that smooth young face......I'm trying to cheer you up in case you missed my attempt at humor.

You will be in my prayers.  Please try to remember, that worry changes nothing.....it just makes you feel like crap.

Good calming thoughts coming your way!

Try to remain calm and positive.  The fact that you were checked recently and it appeared quickly does kind of sound like a cyst so think that that is what it is until you know otherwise!

let us know how you go on

Try to stay calm and remember there are in fact so many other things that it could be.  We are always quick to jump to the worst conclusions though.  My boss' mother has had breast cancer and a few years ago she found a lump and just knew it was the worst.  Turns out it was just a cyst.  They even removed it surgically to be sure.  Best wishes and keep us posted.  We are all going to be worrying about you now b/c we all know how scary the prospect of finding a lump is.

     Thanks everyone.

I know I am probably overreacting (because I usually do) so hopefully that is all it is.  I got an appointment for 11:45 today so I  have about 2 hours to waste before I need to leave.  I'll just need to keep myself busy until then.

The reason I am so worried is because I started on some birth control recently (2 months) and I have been having serious breast pain from that (which is why I don't do birth control).  DH and I are just super careful.  But I needed it to regulate my time of the month.  So I wonder if the birth control is giving me some kind of negative reaction?  I'll be talking to the Dr. about it today, so hopefully all of this gets resolved.

It could be the pill reacting badly with you, it is hard to imagine, but there are a whole tonne of hormones and stuff in those little pills!

I hope your appointment goes well, and I am so glad they got you in so quick!  It is good you only have a few hours to wait and not days!

I will contionue to think about you!  And if you need something ot pass the time:

I was about your age when I discovered a clogged milk duct -- I was TERRIFIED.  But it hasn't changed in literally about 24 years!  Then another time I noticed a small discharge from my nipples (my first husband noticed it and had quite a rant about it, like it was my 'fault' somehow -- obviously not married to HIM anymore) -- and it was simply my whacky hormones (one of the reasons I've never been able to have kids).  But that scared me even worse until I could get in.)

I keep a close eye on myself, but I've learned, out of sheer self defense, not to panic.

"worry" only eats your stomach!  There isn't a darned thing you *can* do, so try not to let your imagination run wild - it won't change a thing, and it CAN hurt and make you feel horrible!!

In my early 30's I discovered a lump in my breast.  I had had an exam just a couple of months before, so it was fast growing.

It turned out to be just a benign tumor that needed to be removed unless I wanted to be lopsided.  Stick tongue out

Please try not to cross your bridges before you get to them!!  Otherwise, you can give yourself ulcers.

Good luck!  Hoping for the best!!!

Hang in there.  Benign Breast Disease is more common than we are led to believe and IS a side effect of oral contraceptives.  I had a lump in my breast when I was 20 that was deemed a fibroadenoma.  Try not to worry - several of my friends who are BCP users have also had these lumps.  Most likely you'll have an ultrasound.  If it is a fibroadenoma it will NOT be fluid-filled so don't freak out when they tell you it may not be a cyst.  So a needle biopsy may not be possible.  You'll also probably have a mammogram and then ultimately have it removed.  The surgery I had was very quick and outpatient - local anesthesia only.  I've never had a recurrence and FWIW that breast functions just fine for milk production, though I get less milk on that side than from the other breast.

With all the news about cancer these days, it's no surprise that you're anxious but the odds are greatly in your favor that it's something else, like a cyst. I had one too when I was younger and it was benign. I hope your appt goes well and you find out that you've got nothing to worry about.

If it helps you, you have alot of things working in your favor.  No family history, your age, the size of the lump.  Most cancers are small, like little bb's.  They also tend not to be moveable.  Ask your gyn if she has one of those example boobs to let you know what to look for.  It has several different lumps so you can tell the difference.  The BC pills are probably the culprit.  And at your age, alot of women start to develop fibrocystic breasts.  My first baseline mammo was at 25 due to lumpy breasts.  After years of worrying about loads of lumps (who can tell what's suspicious with all those bumps?) my cancer scare came in the form of something you can't even feel (microcalcifications).  It can be scary, but you've got alot working in your favor.  The ultrasound is a good idea, it can show them if it's a cyst or not and if it's worth investigating further.  A friend of mine has a very cancerous appearing lump that she's had forever.  Turns out it's a calcified milk duct.  They keep an eye on it and it hasn't changed in years.

    Good luck, keep us posted!

SO she checked me out and found a lot of small bumps all around both breasts (my right one hurting so much as she was checking me).  She says that it could be a number of things (too much caffeine, BC, ovulation, etc).  SO she referred me to have an ultrasound done.  I made that appt and now have to wait until June 17.

It seems like such a long time away, but she did ease my fears and I'm hoping it is an easy thing to fix.

Thanks for all of the advice.  Now I need to wait just a bit longer to find out what's going on here.
