Seriously !!! This is some karmic Joke !!!!

I have been venting a lot lately and appreciate all of the kindness extended but here is just one more that I have to share ..

I have 2 girls in seasons, it is only thier second season but we are ultra careful. Our back yard is a 6 foot privacy fence and we allow the girls out with escort only..  Yesterday we allowed them out they did their business and came back into settle in thier crates... I then let everyone else out they play a bit and wander the yard but after a bit in the already increasing heat of early summer all but two wanted back into the air conditioning.

The phone rang and I answered it to speak with some one about something ...frankly I can't even remember what it was now.  One minute I am yakking on the phone refilling the water buckets the next all hell breaks loose, the inside dogs are battle roaring and screaming  , I open the door to see what is going on and Zion escapes racing to join in a dog fight between the 9 year old Kota and some strange dog !!! The puppy is dashing in an out looking for a chance to engage as well. I pull Zion off and hand  him to my daughter who drags him in the house and comes back at a dead run to find me beating the Heck out of the strange dog,  Once I have them broken apart first Nemo was dragged in by the 8 year old and then Kota by my daughter as I am still laying into the strange dog who is ready to continue the fight, we manage to open the fence and force it out into the street.  I evaluate the boys, puppy is fine not a mark on him, Zion has a few muzzle bites and one good puncture to his upper leg,  But Kota has nearly been scalped. While the leater of his beautiful ears are fine the inside flap has been torn not just open but nearly off ! Daughter races with him tot he vet I begin to track the PIT BULL yes I know this dog, it is the one I have mentioned being walked by the wanna be white teen thug on a tow chain.  I get to house, with the cops enroute and demand to see the dog, the husband is scrubbuing his front steps off.  " I ain't got no dog" he replies.  I isist he does, that I have ssen his kid with it He shrugs and repeats "Aint got a dog" Police arrive , 3 cruisers and I demand they look for the dog... The owner steps back with a smirk and says "look all ya want I aint got a dog"

There was no sign of a dog except for the scars on a tree in the back yard that had been obviously used to chain something.  No proof, they are still new to the area and cops can do nothing. I talk to the neighbors they work all the time and while they have seen dogs they don't know for sure if one actually lives there.

Kota underwent 2 hours of surgery to repair the damage , the first time EVER I was not allowed to take a dog home after surgery sinc it was very late in the day and David wanted him on an iv to prevent shock. Kota is home this morning , he has talked long distance to his New York Momma who offered to fly down and comfort him< I requested a scent box instead assurring her I would do everything for the boy but that havig her for 2-43 days then losing her again for a few months may be much harder on him than we think.A friend at AC tells me this am a Pitt was dumped off at the after hours box near the street, that the damage to the dog was so profound they assumed he was just another loosing fighting dog.  The vet who had  come in to help a tiny breed litter inspected the now euthnanized dog and said this was not a Pitt vs Pitt fight.  That the legs was shattered , the clavicle was broken and the throat so badly torn he would have bled out with in a half hour or so more.  They took a report but the dog had zero id, no chip, tattoo, or collar so there wa nothing they could do. This is rural , RURAL alabama, just begining to come into the century in may ways , no cameras no security nothing to give indication of who had dumped this dog so callously. The kid has not been seen all day normally we see him dozens of times....  That call to the owner was one of the hardest things I have ever done and she was awesome about everything.... What a failure I feel right now, 30 years and never a problem like this !

I now have Kota cuddled with his mom and I ,  we will go to umbilical resocialization next week getting him back around large intact dogs I can not allow this to change what has been the sweetest and most loving of boys.

Please keep in mind I cheer for the show pitts, I think them funny and sweet, but everytime I see one of these swap meet dogs I want to rage... So my Mom used to say , Never say things can't get worse it is a challenge to God and the Universe.....   my bad mom , I 'll remember your sage advice and make sure I don't get cocky about life again!!

OMG!!!  That is horrible!!  Thoughts and prayers are going out from our neck of the woods.  We are pulling for Kota to recover quickly from this incident.  I am so sorry that this happened to your dog--I just don't know what else to say....

Wowza Pitt Bull vs RR must have been one hell of a fight. Ill send some good vibes for Kota for defending his home and I hope his healing goes okay.

That is just horrible. I can't believe what happened.  Just nurse him back to health and things will get better. So, you are sure that dog that was euthanized was the attacker of your dog? That pit sounded like it was pretty horribly beaten nearly to death...What an awful time.

What is wrong with people. These are the criminals that are making it tough for the good dogs and good dog owners.  I guess we need to be more alert to the neighbors and what they are up to.

Your nerves must be shredded - everything about this, and especially the timing, is just awful.  And callous is too kind a word for the owners of that Pitt.

Warm thoughts for complete physical and emotional healing for Kota and comfort for you.

While in a criminal case a prosecutor has to show beyond a "reasonable" doubt the guilt of the accused, in civil law, you merely have to show the preponderance of evidence. So, start taking pics of the wannabe thug and where he lives, etc. I bet he goes and gets another dog. He has to in order to compensate for what he lacks. Of course, that may only be good in another decisive incident. And the police will still stand around and do nothing because the punk's rights are more important than yours. The cops are more afraid of being sued by the wannabe gangsta than they are of you, the law-abiding citizen. I realize they can only proceed on evidence but I bet they could keep an eye on things if they really wanted to. And they will know about what kind of trouble this family can get into. In another little town where some friends live, I knew the chief of police. She knew of every popular meth recipe in this county. One of the popular ones uses anhydrous ammonia, which farmers also use. So, she knew where all the tanks were and how full they were. A recipe page floated into my friends' yard and they gave it to her and she knew who that page belonged to by the recipe on it. And this is a little town with one chief and one patrolman.

So, maybe your cops can do a little better surveillance, if they aren't afraid. Otherwise, I know a Texas peace officer who ain't afraid to show them how it's done and embarrass them.

I am sorry this happened to you.

And yes, you want to hear God laugh? Make a plan, any plan.

I agree with Ron. (Admittedly, the kid probably has no money, but you make be able to scare the pants off him just by pursuing it.)

     Some days I HATE people.

(edited to fix things- I got confused about which dog had the injuries that caused it to be euthanized.)

Oh, geeeezzz!  That is a horrible thing to have happen.  Sad  I hope that Kota heals quickly and has no residual emotional effects.

I think it is reasonable to assume that the dog at the pound was the animal in question.

Taking pictures of all the unruly dogs in one's neighborhood is an excellent idea.  Idea  That way folks have ammunition when there is a problem.

Any idea how the dog got into your backyard?

How scary for you!  I can't imagine.  But count your blessings in this.  Kota will be fine.  And you have big, brave Rhodies.  Can you imagine if you're chosen breed had been some little small something?  I know, small blessings, but it's the best I can do at the moment.

And Kota is the NY lady's dog, right?  Ugh, when something like this happens to a dog you've been entrused with, it's worse than when it happens to your own.  However, please know that everyone knows this is a freak sort of thing.  I know you're worthy of your breed.  That you love your puppers and would do anything for them.

Sadly It was, The dog's photo was sent to me by an AC worker on the cell,  It was absolutely the dog.  RRs have enormous jaw stregnth second only to the Hyena. Simple  PSI  the pitt did not have a chance as there is no locking mechanisism in the RR, they tear crush and slash. This is why we stress it is NOT a breed for everyone.   By locking his bite on the top of Kota's head he opened his throat to Kota's reach, RRs have a great deal of extra skin on the head.  Sadly the boy died with out an owner there to comfort him or even take the body home. He is yet another sad statistic.  Kota spent much of the day next to me watching the kids play with new water toys,  he is covered by smalliesh bites, the simple contact wounds of teeth to flesh. the nasty gant type flies are out or I would have insisted he stay out even longer.  We did discover one small wound on the pup's shoulder about an inch in legnth , I trimed the hair and butterflied it close.  Kota now wants to establish dominance with Zion and Phelan one intact and 15 month the other altered and over 10. This will not be allowed.  He was chastized and distracted. It will take some time to re teach him how to handle other males.  I would cry but I don't seem to have any tears left today.  I wish I knew how to post a photo to this thread but sorry I really am cyber stupid.

Yep, I've made that mistake myself a few times. Things can always get worse :(

I'm so sorry for what you've had to go thru today and this week. It does seem more than is fair for any one person to handle, but you seem to be handling it all perfectly. I hope Kota heals fine and there are no lasting repercussions for him from this. Hugs to all of you.

Oh man, Bonita -- whatta shame.  Gosh -- that makes 3 'bad' things this week -- ENUF.  Things go in 3's - let's let it rest there!

I tried posting earlier but I hit the wrong button and my post was lost ...

I just want to send you a HUGE hug and a soft nuzzle for Kota.

How awful! I am glad he's going to be OK.  However, remember that Pits do NOT have locking jaws--NO dog does.

You have really, really been through the ringer lately.  My heart goes out to you.

You are absolutely right I miswrote based off of the generalization of terms thrown about in anger by all parties involved.  The PItt held his bite in the one area as opposed to the manner a RR fights quick in quick out slashing and breaking.  Rhodies do not try to hold in a bite which is what is often mistaken for the lock on. They simply try to do the most damage the fastest.  Your point is really a good one and educational , thanks for bringing it up,
