Anybody else on a diet?

If you really still want snacks you could get those 100 calorie packs from Nabisco.  They make them in almost everything now.  I always get the 100 Calorie Pringles.

You are not far from me so you can probably get these 98% Fat Free Bagel chips from New York Style--they have a website it's www.newyorkstyle.com

If you like cheese, Laughing Cow makes these garlic/herb spreadable cheese wedges that are really good.

I've been doing Weight Watchers for over a year--I'm at goal now finally.  So, if you want any more ideas let me know.

I actually did WW 2 years ago, I lost 35lbs really fast...then I hit a plateau for 3 months so I quite WW (dumbest idea ever) then slooooowly I gained it all back 1lb at a time. I could do WW again, but I really hated the meetings.

I didn't go to the meetings at all this time.  I did it on my own.  This is the only diet I like to follow because you can eat everything and you know exactly how much you can eat in a day.  I don't like low carb and anything that restricts what you can eat too much.

Well - I bit the bullet today.

I used to be able to loose weight very easily but...not so much anymore.  Since moving to the States (larger portions) and living with my DH (fantastic cook) I have gained an 8 year old child.  DH travels every week and I'm horrible at making healthy meals for myself so...

There is a local place that makes healthy, fresh meals for a very reasonable price.  It is all calorie maintained and teaches you to enjoy healthy meals.  The place is just round the corner from my house and I pick up twice a week.  I'll be starting next week.

    Wish me luck!

Good luck VanMorrison and Monroe's mom!  I know of someone else who has their meals delivered and they like it a lot.

BlackLabbie--Thank you!  I've done this a million times and never reached goal before.  I think the difference was having a dog to hike and walk with, I really do.

Good luck to everybody on modifying their healthy eating habits!

I've been wanting to lose weight, so I'm working on fixing my eating.  I like the gym, so exercising isn't the problem.  But I have a serious sweet tooth.  I'm infamous for eating ice cream as a midnight snack (very bad), and eating dinner late, so I've been trying to move all my meals up.  I've started bringing a bigger breakfast to work, and having a healthy yet filling lunch.  Dinner can't be after 7-8 pm, and it is the lightest meal of the day.  And I've stopped buying ice cream all together.

That's actually been really helpful to me, not buying stuff that will tempt me.  It's hard sometimes, because DH is one of those people who can eat whatever and how much that they want, and not gain a pound.  But I know that his food is off-limits, and I've been stocking the pantry with more sensible choices for myself.  I've also stopped drinking pop, substituting water and teas.  Now, I can't imagine drinking pop, it seems too sugary for me.  And if I have super-licious cravings, I will either find a substitute, or indulge in a SMALL portion of what I desire.  For instance, if I have an undying craving for chocolate, I'll either have sugar free pudding, or a hershey kiss.

The best motivator for me is a deal that DH and I have worked out.  I like clothes, so for every 10 pounds I lose, I get to buy an outfit.  I've lost 9 pounds so far (I've been doing this since April), and I'm dying to drop the last one!  It's terrific motivation, plus I figure it'll be even cooler when I get to buy an outfit in a smaller size!

DH brought home a carton of Double Fudge Brown Ice Cream the other day...and its half empty. Needless to say he hasn't been home other than to sleep to have time to eat any of it. Hmm

My plan is/was similar to WW in that I simply count.  I don't pay attention to the "properties" of food besides calories (well, except maybe fat.  If one snack has twice as much fat than another of the same portion size...).  In that sense, I've never really been on a "diet".  I chose what I eat, I just make sure I understand what it equals in terms of calories, and I learned to pay attention to appropriate serving sizes.  For a few months, I was counting every calorie and actually measuring out portions.  It seemed obsessive, but I was able to stop doing that and maintain the weight I wanted, even lose 2 more lbs.  I simply needed to train myself on how much I need to eat in a day and how much is a good portion size.  I still eat "junk", but I give and take here an there.  Heck, yesterday I had FOUR pieces of pizza for lunch!  The difference is before, I would eat 4 pieces of pizza and then go out for dinner and have ice cream for a snack.  Now, I eat 4 pieces of pizza (b/c it was a party and I REFUSE to sacrifice for special occasions) and feel actually full, so for dinner I had a slice of watermelon and a few strawberries and that was it.  I went to a time management seminar for work and the speaker said it takes 21 days to develop a new habit.  At the time I was just starting out so my motto was "21 days".  For 21 days I was sore and exhausted from working out and felt like I was starving, but then it became a routine.  Honestly, losing 26 lbs was a lot easier than I thought it would be and I don't know why I didn't start sooner.  I did not technically *need* to lose weight b/c my starting BMI was 24 (I was 5'6" and 150lbs), but even then, once I conquered the mental part of just pushing myself through the first 21 days, it just sort of happened and now I am able to maintain my new weight working out less and eating a little more, no more calorie journal and measuring portions.
