Anybody else on a diet?

    Anybody else on a diet?

I started dieting May 1....LOL, I'm already struggling!!!!! We're going on vacation the weekend after July 4, and I just want to look a little better in my summer clothes.

I'm just trying to eat healthy and exercise a little more. Nothing big. But seriously, eating healthy is a huge challenge for me. I LOVE junk food. Honestly, I'd rather eat chips than a real dinner. But, I've been trying! This morning I took Apollo for a 45minute walk/run.....then this afternoon I walked dogs....and about hour ago we went for another 45minute walk/run. He's enjoying it. I actually feel a heck of a lot better after. The exercise isn't the hard part for me, it's the eating healthier. Any good tips on junk food I can have that isn't too bad? Or should I just suck it up and cut it out? I'm not a soda drinker, but I am defiantly a coffee drinker...iced coffee that is, with milk and splenda Big Smile And I've been trying to drink more water, which is hard for me.

Anybody else on a diet? Is there a part on this forum for dieters? Like a support network?

I don't think you're alone but I haven't seen a section devoted to dieting. The extra exercise will ultimately help the most, but you can still sabotage everything by not eating right. I know it's hard but try not to keep any of the junk food in the house. I don't know about you, but I'm too lazy to hop in my car and go buy something. Stock up on stuff you can munch on that's healthier. Maybe cut up veggies and keep them in the frig ready to eat. You can even use a low fat ranch dressing to dip them in but don't overdo that either.  Light popcorn is another good snack. I think it's mostly just changing your habits and that can take some time, but it's definitely possible and you'll feel better in the long run. Good luck!!

I did a pretty strict diet plan last year, and ended up losing 50 pounds.  It was hard at first, because I, too, love junk food, and there was no alcohol allowed on the plan, either, so going out with my friends was always difficult.  But my friends loved it because I was always the DD, LOL.  I've managed to keep the weight off for almost a year now.

Drinking water is VERY important during dieting.  Don't overdo it, though, because then you'll just retain water.  Salt makes you retain water, too, so watch your salt intake.  Morton's Lite Salt is a good substitute for regular salt and you'll still get your potassium.

Eating every 2-3 hours will help keep your metabolism churning.  Do not skip breakfast!  It gets your met. going for the day.  I would eat a couple of scrambled eggs and some melba toast or something like that for breakfast, fruit as morning and afternoon snacks, a sensible lunch and dinner, and Jello for later in the evening if I was feeling hungry.  Lean protein is good for making you feel full but without the fatty side effects.

Eat fruit if you have a craving for sweets.  Or you can get some protein bars which are good for a snack (no more than one a day, though) and help with the sweet tooth.  For salty/crunchy cravings, I would take a plain unsalted rice cake and crumble it in a bowl, melt some Land O' Lakes lite butter on top, and add a pinch of lite salt.  Tastes just like popcorn!

Good luck!  It's hard, but so worth it in the end!

That's an awesome tip! THANK YOU Big Smile

I workout alot, and I'm kinda dieting. Having a husband who eats what he wants when he wants makes it a bit hard to curb those cravings, but I notice if I just have a little its not too bad. I eat alot of fruits and veggies now and workout almost everyday. I have the same problem, its not exercising, its eating better so I guess I can't help you there haha. I love coffee too.

The one thing that I was able to do and stick to was cut out all soda and drink only water. I've been drinking only water for so long now I can't even think of going back to soda.

Jeremy (my fiancee) is thin...always has been. He eats like a COW, and he can eat whatever he wants and he always stays thin. I used to be very thin, and in about 4 years I've gained about 40lbs Surprise So, I'm just looking to lose 20lbs to get to a healthy weight.

See I'm the opposite! Lol! I eat semi right. I love junk food but it makes me sick to my stomach so the only major junkie thing I have is Coke.. It's my addiction.

But I HATE exercising. I do get out for walks during the day with Maze. But in general I'd rather sit on my butt! Lol. Or clean the house..So I need the motivation to get out there and do stuff. Which is also why I'm enrolling Maze in to obedience, agility and Rally O if possible.. Lol. Keep us both in shape.

I am pretty active, but my diet needs MAJOR help. I'm working on it. I'm not really trying to lose much weight (I do need to lose maybe 5 lbs), but... I need to do better. I've gotten into some ugly habits with soda and french fries for lunch, iced mochas and scones for breakfast. Ick!

I won't cut out "junk" food, entirely. Now, I'm waiting for dinner to finish cooking already (dang it, hurry up!) so I have some organic corn chips and guacamole. Not a bad snack at all, IMO. Avocados are full of good fats and protein. Yum.

Mmm french fries.. Thanks Jennie! *glares* Lol!  I've found that I love those purple corn chips! It grosses out my house hold when I walk around the house munching those.

I hate the fact I can't drink the water in this house. It's disgusting and STINKS! And bottled water is semi expensive cuz I drink it so fast. I must invest in a Brita Filter..Lol.

Yeah, our water filter went out. Well water in Georgia is gross, LOL. Sulphur does NOT taste good! I'm drinking bottled water.

I'm doing the Kim Kardashian diet.  I'm very strict for 3 days, drinking power smoothies, eating egg white veggie omelettes, and drinking lots of water.  Then, I eat a german chocolate cake in one day along with some mexican food and a couple margaritas.

It's working great!  My butt almost looks like a garbage bag full of cottage cheese!

I'm not really on a diet, but I totally overhauled my life basically and lost 27lbs since New Year's.  In high school I was captain of the gymnastics team.  Then I went to college, quit gymnastics, started birth control, and the rest is history!  I gained a lot of weight and have always wanted to get back into shape.  I just had a health screen 2 weeks ago and my BMI, glucose, HDL, blood pressure, and cholesterol are at optimal levels, woohoo!  I want to lose about 7 more lbs.  I'm happy with dropping from size 8/10 to size 4 but there's a few pounds here and there I'm slowly working off.  I feel a lot better and sleep a lot better now.

I'm not dieting, i consider it a change in my eating habits.  I have lost 23lbs in 12 weeks, so i'm averaging about 2lbs a week.  I used to be a huge sugar eater, i would eat anything chocolate that i saw.  i cut it all out, and it was hell at first, but after a while you get very used to it and find things you really like and look forward to.  I will have rice cakes with hummus or guacamole for snacking, and i also have sugar free puddings when i have a bad chocolate craving.

I found that I just needed to get rid of my bad habits, and start some new good habits.  Trust me, if i can do it, anyone can.  Once you start losing weight and buying smaller clothes, it's huge inspiration!!

Well I've never needed a diet, being the natural 97 pound stick I am, but I do try to eat healthy.  One thing I would suggest however is adding some weight exercises to your routine if you don't already have some.  Cardio is nice and all but your muscles will burn fat 24 hours a day 7 days a week to sustain themselves.  It really doesn't take much either.  Between using your own body weight as a counter force, getting a few little hand weights, one of those tension cords, and you can do a number of exercises right in the comfort of your own home.
