I did a pretty strict diet plan last year, and ended up losing 50 pounds. It was hard at first, because I, too, love junk food, and there was no alcohol allowed on the plan, either, so going out with my friends was always difficult. But my friends loved it because I was always the DD, LOL. I've managed to keep the weight off for almost a year now.
Drinking water is VERY important during dieting. Don't overdo it, though, because then you'll just retain water. Salt makes you retain water, too, so watch your salt intake. Morton's Lite Salt is a good substitute for regular salt and you'll still get your potassium.
Eating every 2-3 hours will help keep your metabolism churning. Do not skip breakfast! It gets your met. going for the day. I would eat a couple of scrambled eggs and some melba toast or something like that for breakfast, fruit as morning and afternoon snacks, a sensible lunch and dinner, and Jello for later in the evening if I was feeling hungry. Lean protein is good for making you feel full but without the fatty side effects.
Eat fruit if you have a craving for sweets. Or you can get some protein bars which are good for a snack (no more than one a day, though) and help with the sweet tooth. For salty/crunchy cravings, I would take a plain unsalted rice cake and crumble it in a bowl, melt some Land O' Lakes lite butter on top, and add a pinch of lite salt. Tastes just like popcorn!
Good luck! It's hard, but so worth it in the end!
