Which Floor Would You Choose? **New Choice Added** (page 2)

    Here's the kitchen...

The cabinets are a warm oak, the walls are a light copper (not finished in that photo) the appliances are almond and black, the counter tops are forest green marble colored and I want a DARK floor. Which floor would you choose?

#1 -Both Copper and Basalt tiles:

    #2. Onyx:

    #3. Copper:

We have decided against grout lines, so the floor will look more like painted concrete than individual tiles, as every tile is different. Here's a floor without grout lines:

    Thanks for any opinions! Smile

I love the copper & basalt tile, but I think that without the grout lines, the onyx will look better.

You're probably right, the "squares" would show up. That would look funky. Thanks! I wonder about just Basalt. Couldn't find that picture...

I agree, I like the onyx a lot, especially since you are doing the copperish color on the wall and have the rich, warm color on the cabinets.  With the onyx, you could change your wall color and cabinets someday and still match to the floor.

I love the colors in the onyx.  Remember though that everything that falls on a dark floor is going to show up light ... but everything that falls on a light floor will show up dark - so you can't win. Confused

I like the copper and basalt tiles and the Onyx would be my second choice.  I like the first b/c the first are different colors from tile to tile.  The second just has different colors within each tile.  My kitchen has a similar floor to the first and I LOVE the way it turned out.

I will include a picture.  The floors in the dining room are the same as the kitchen but I have a better picture in the dining room.  I think it adds more interest when all the tiles aren't the same basically.  That is just me though.  We ended up going with a backsplash in the same colors as the floors but smaller tiles.

    I really like the Onyx.

I like the Onyx colored one also.

Your floor is beautiful! I think if we were going to get grout lines, that would be the way to go. I'm leaning toward the Onyx, now, too.

    Thanks everyone! Smile

For a dark floor, Onyx would be my choice too.  Hey, I have those same exact cabinets...except a couple of them have glass fronts.

I like floor #1 w/out the grout lines Smile

    Another vote for Onyx :)

I didn't know you could do it without grout - would this be Onyx-colored tile, or stone? What's the price difference (if you don't mind me asking) - much more than the traditional grouted squares?

Cita, ceramic tile is about twice as much as the vinyl tile. If we had a small kitchen, I would have gone with the ceramic tile as it lasts forever (unless it cracks) and it also requires a cement like subfloor. But with our big kitchen, we decided to go with the vinyl. It has a 12 year guarantee.

You can get it with or without grout lines. The grout lines are little tiny strips that get put on separately from the tile! It's made from the same stuff, but just fits between each tile. We've had these squares on our floor since I've been here and I'm tired of the tile look. I really like the idea of the painted concrete look.

Here's the stuff we're getting. Karndean They have some beautiful selections!

If you squint just right, you can kind of get an idea what the Onyx is going to look like. I'm so excited!

Carla, do you know anything about phthalates? They're a pretty toxic ingredient in vinyl. You know that noxious "new vinyl" smell? You're breathing phthalates.. They're also absorbed through skin. Scary stuff with dogs walking and laying on the floor (not to mention licking..or do I just live with weird dogs? LOL). Just something to maybe look into before you get vinyl flooring.
