Need Prayer

Ok so I talked to the vet today and asked a couple of questions.  I asked if Tippy was through the 48 hr stage where it is critical and she said he has but still today counts also.  He is more perky and comes to see the vet and wag his tail when they approach his cage. That is a good sign in my opinion.  Tippy also still hasn't thrown up or had dirareha.  The vet is going to try and feed him tonight and I hope he eats.  As you probably know if he eats it's a very good thing he hasn't eaten for us yet.  He seems to be improving but still has a long way to go.  Tippy also has Kennel Cough.  He has nasal discharge quite freqently.  If that gets any worse or doesn't let up soon stronger antibiodics will be given to improve condition.  I will post another update tommorrow morning when i find out more

That sounds like encouraging news Ben. Thanks for posting. I've been checking this thread all day, hoping for good news!

Ben, it sounds as if THIS dog needs YOU.  This dog has had a really rough start -- and yet, I can promise you that this dog has been put exactly where he needed to be to do what he's put on this Earth for.

I've thot of him all day and lifted up both of you.

Oh Ben & Toppy, I'm sending good healthy vibes & asking my heart girl to look over Tippy.  Tippy, you have a bunch of people & dogs pulling for you.

I am so glad you are Tippys parents. I can tell you love him dearly and you only got him around the 4th of this month. He is such a lucky boy. I hope he gets better each and every day.

Thanks calliecritturs for your response.  My fiance and I both feel that we were brought to the shelter to get him for a reason.  We called on a dog in the paper but the owner didn't answer.  Once we had tippy that owner called about that dog and i'm glad we didn't get him.  We feel as though we were brought to Tippy for a reason most likely to save him.  Most people only owning him for four days wouldn't have paid for the treatment.  We got so attached to him it wasn't a second thought.  We love him so much already and know he now has the best chance of pulling through this.  I just thought it was intersting that you had the same thought as us.

The Alpha of ALL Alphas *always* has a plan -- it's interesting.  I've never heard anyone talk about a dog who survived parvo and just call them ordinary.  It's one of those things that has a big impact on them -- they KNOW they were sick nearly to death ... it tends to deepen the bond with the owner, and with the vet who helped them (if it's a good vet).

My Billy has IMHA (look it up on the archives if you want a LONG LONG read) and he nearly died SO many times last year.  It has changed his personality to a degree -- he can't try hard enough to please now.  I've seen it again and again.  All the best therapy dogs I've ever trained have had some personal obstacle they've had to overcome.

There's another thread going on right now where someone else has a parvo puppy and she asked specifically for some encouraging stories.

I know there are lurkers who read it and take encouragement ... maybe not because they have a dog with parvo but simply because they're going thru something tough right now.  We all need to see encouragement now and then.

Another update: I just called the hospital when I woke up on Wendesday.  Tippy is still more playful and actually ate the EN food they gave him.  I couldn't be more thrilled.  He is improving in that area.  At this time though the vet tech I talked to stated she thinks Tippys canine cough is getting worse.  That worries me but I think it less severe than the parvo.  I will be calling back to talk to the actual vet early this afternoon to get her opinion.

    PLEASE READ THIS:

I wanted to take a minute to give praise where praise is do.  We live in Fort Gratiot, MI.  The 24 hr animal hospital is called ANCHOR BAY VETERNARIAN HOSPITAL.  They are located in New Baltimore, MI. They have been the most wonderful for us.  We can call 200 times in a day to check on our baby and they don't mind at all.  The vet tech I talked to this morning told me she was said she didn't work tonight because she was going to be with Tippy.  That brings a tear to my eye.  I can't call without a different person stated how Tippy is so special to them. They love their job and I love them for it.  I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.  They have doctors on hand 24 I would assume like most 24 hr places but they truely care from the top to the bottom.  I just wanted to take time to let everyone know who awesome they were and how caring they have been.  I am so glad we live in this area.

Ok thank you all for your prayers.  It's obvious that all the compassion that was directed towards Tippy and my family made all the difference in the world.  I thank you all and Tippy and I can't express what it meant to us.  Jos (fiance) just got off the phone with the vet.  Dr. Mcinnis stated that Tippys nasal discharge has turned from green to clear.  A good sign I am told and that he has been eating quite a bit since last night.  She stated that she is off tomorrow and the doctor taking her place will make the call.  What call you might ask (my favorite part EVER) make the call if Tippy can come home yes COME HOME.  Almost crying as I am writing this at work. Tippy is showing immense improvement and if he continues and the vet agrees tomorrow morning we can take him home and love the living snot out him.  I am more thrilled then I can express.  He still has a recovery time of course but now we can encourage him and love him endless amounts to help the recovery.  I know for a fact know that we got him for a reason beyond us.  If over course he can't come home tomorrow I am assuming Friday either way it doesn't matter cause he's coming home YES YES YES

Coming in a bit late here, but it's so wonderful that Tippy is on the upswing.  And, after Tippy is home, you may want to consider sending some cookies to all of those good people at the ER care.
