Sorry no added advice. But It's good that you have vet apts for them. I would keep a close eye on them for the next 4-5 hours.

    Sending good vibes your way

Steph, good luck at the vets. How scary!!

You might be better off in Frederick for supplements. Maybe the Common Market?

Well we were right, it was Co-Co.  Her TBIL values were high so that means liver problems.  They put her on IVs and are keeping her for atleast 2 days.Crying  Her ALB values were a little high but the vet didn't seem concerned about that.  Her BUN and CREA levels were normal so the vet wasn't worried about her kidneys.  They just did the in house tests, DH took them in and I wasn't there in time to ask about the super chem.

I'm supposed to bring Blaze back in a few days b/c her ALKP values were high but the vet said there are lots of things that can affect those values.  She wants to check again in a few days b/c if its still high then something else it going on, but if it goes down it was probably b/c of the Rimadyl.  She said it could also be b/c of something dental related, which I think is the case b/c Blaze needs a dental done....that was on the list to do this summer.

Mystic and Pooch had slightly low AMYL values so we're going to bring in a fecal for them.  Nothing related to the Rimadyl just something else we want to check on.

On the bright side, Dusty's blood work looked perfect.

I feel so horrible.  I hated seeing Co-Co in that little cage.  She was so scared and wanted leave so bad, she didn't understand why I was leaving her Crying

They said they're gonna do another test on thursday to see if her liver values improve.  They said that they'll do it sooner if things don't go well.  She didn't finish her food this morning which is not like her at all.  They said that if she doesn't eat it will be worse, so I need some 'please eat Co-Co' vibes along with the get better ones.

I gave her some Milk thistle before they took her....maybe I should take some more up and see if they'll give it to her...

Salemsmom, I'll check out the Common Market.  I got some today from a little store in Waynesboro, but it's not going to last long....

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, that they help

Try mixing some jack mackerel (fish) in with her regular food.  It is really smelly and dogs will often eat it when they won't eat anything else.  If you handfeed her, she may also eat more.

Co-Co, jack mackerel is really good!!  Eat lots and lots for your worried mama.

    Please eat Co-Co!!

Can you bring her food? When Pirate wouldn't eat I (and this is learned from Callie, of course *wink*) make a cup of minute rice, cooked in a cup of water to death. When it's still a smidge watery I add about 1lb of ground turkey or lean beef, and sometimes I'll add in an egg too. Delish! You can mix the milk thistle powder in, so long as the vet says it's ok. I usually reheat it with a drop of low-sodium chicken broth so it gets a little mushy.

Also a blankee from home usually helps, along with visits from mom. I visited Pirate 3x a DAY when he was his sickest. My vet is only a block away tho :)

And **hugs** for you. I know how scary it is to have your baby sick.

My girls and I are all hoping that Co-Co eats.  Also that there is improvement when they do the tests on Thursday.  We also are sending good thoughts and prayers that she will find comfort while she is away from her home.  I know that it must have been really hard to leave her there.  Lots of puppy hugs from my girls.

Coco, girl, that is rough stuff! Tripe is really yummy and tempting, too. Maybe your mom can find a can by Solid Gold or Tripette? It's low in fat, so it won't bug your tummy (it actually HELPS hurty tummies!). Liver troubles make you nauseated, so, Mom, if you're making Coco bland food, maybe add some chamomile or peppermint herb to it, if the vet says it's ok?

My vet recommended milk thistle, when Ems was so sick. Lots of vets are recognizing it, now, and the AKC is funding research on it's effects.

In order to catch early renal problems you have to do a big huge blood panel (like a Super Chem, which I've already told her in a PM) and then you have to test for albumin in a couple of ratios.  Nowdays Antech and some of the other labs actually test for microalbuminaria regularly.

The actual 'dose' for milk thistle is simply to give the adult human dose -- but I sincerely would recommend you give at least twice that.  It's benign and for 2-3 weeks to try to establish 'level' and detox whoever got into it, it won't be a problem at all.  (Billy was on the big heinous drugs like pred and cyclosporine in HUGE doses for 18 months and one of the ways I kept his kidneys and liver detoxed was huge doses of milk thistle -- like 4-5 times the adult dose -- that's a bit over the top but it DID protect the kidneys).

The place Pirate's Mom (and I, too) actually can "go" to is http://www.leavesandroots.com -- she's an awesome lady and has great quality herbs.  She does sell 'bulk' (no capsules) which is GREAT for things like milk thistle that we can just add to their food (not bitter).  But she also sells stuff in the capsules if you prefer and the quality is SUPERB.  She's very careful -- most of her stuff is wild-crafted.  Just a really nice, honest, well-informed lady.  I wish I was as close to her as Pirate's Mom is!!!  She lives on that side of town and I don't!! *sigh*  I've often ordered from her via mail just because it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to drive over there!    AT the price of gas I can get it mailed cheaper!!

    She'll mail stuff?!?

The capsules are a PITA, opening them and dumping the powder over the food works better.  Not to mention the place I was only sells 60 ct bottles....that ain't gonna last too long.

I'm going over after work to visit.  I'd love to have gone over before work but they weren't open yet, I'm going to call when they are.  Hopefully the vet isn't rushing around too much tomorrow and I can talk to them about doing a super chem.  I'm planning on bringing her a kong stuffed with some wet food, she usually goes nuts for it and I mixed in about 4 of the milk thistle capsules.  I'm gonna take the milk thistle up with me too and ask that they give it to her as well.  I'll have to ask if I can bring the tripe....they might not want me to since I hear its pretty stinky, but I'll ask.

I can't bring her any clothes or blankets from the house b/c she likes to chew and shred fabric, normally she doesn't swallow those things, but I'm not chancing it.  She has a rubber ball she likes so I'll bring that with the kong.  I just want my baby back Crying

Well I ordered some milk thistle from that website and some wintergreen oil to massage Mystic with (HD).  WOW her prices were WAY better than were I went yesterday.

I called the vet to check on Co-Co.  She did eat last night (yay!) but she didn't potty this morning.  I'm supposed to call back at 3 to see if she pottied when they took her out for her lunch break.  If she hasn't then they want me to walk her when I get there to see if she'll potty for me (I was gonna ask to do that anyway).  They said she's doing fine right now, basically just hanging out.  Since I had someone on the phone I asked about bringing in food and was told that was no problem, so she'll get her stuffed kong when I get there.

Da boyz & I are sending "eat, eat, eat" vibes your way as well as hugs from me.

Snickers is totally stunned that she won't eat.  He says "fud is gud, grrrrl.  R yaz nutz?  Eeet, eeet!  Iz tryz to eeetz eweryting Iz can getz my mouf on"

Tell Co-Co we're thinking about her & sending some skritches & kisses her way.

YAY!!!!! DH just called me.  He called to check on Co-Co and the actual vet got on the phone.  She said that they tested Co-Co again and her levels have dropped dramatically!!!! She said we might even be able to take her home tonight instead of thursday (or later) like she originally said.  He said that there would be meds and maybe sub-q fluids but that the vet was really pleased!!!!

Once again, the great miracle of prayer and idog vibes!!!!!

I don't know all the details since DH is the one that talked to them and I'm sure he didn't ask anything.  I'll give a better update after I go in and talk to them (and hopefully bring my baby home!)  I'm so excited I just had to share.

    • Gold Top Dog
Fingers crossed that she can come home tonight!!
