Stupid stray dogs!!!!!

    • Gold Top Dog

It is difficult to imagine losing a dog and not being able to find and sleep at night knowing he is out all alone or hurt.  And if you will get him back, safe and sound.

It is likewise difficult to imagine how another person feels who has never really thought it through and being inundated with a new little fragile puppy and different things than you or I...

We all make quick judgements.  We don't always think it through, but experience in  areas teaches us and we learn better.

I hope the stray gets home. And I hope that people can learn to be more understanding on each side of the fence.

What Denise said!  And could we also try to think that maybe crazy, stupid, friendly strays could be someone's next best friend and deserves to be saved just because?  Heck, even the not so friendly strays deserve a humane end rather than squished on a freeway in my mind.  So even if it appears they've been dumped, or were not a loved pet, they could be if you take the time to keep them out of harms way and place them into the custody of someone who can help them find a loving home, be it the one they're missing from or the one that's available for them.

    Signed,

The crazy dog lady you're bound to see running along the freeway if you drive thru Richmond, VA on any given day.

THIS is why you treat stray dogs kindly and try to get them help:

    Broken Heart

I sobbed like a baby reading that.

Me too!  For months after we rescued Sassy, I wondered if someone was looking for her and it made me sad. I checked the papers for a long time, but never saw anything. I still tell her that someone was sad to lose her, but we're sure happy to have her. Sassy didn't have any collar on her when they picked her up and we took that as a sign that someone dumped her. Now I can't help but wonder if it was a situation like this one.

I sure hope that Ginger is found soon.

ETA - I was flipping between the thread on Ginger and this one and got confused, but it still applies, so I'll leave it :)

Thanks for posting the update. This story about your stray certainly kept me up last night thinking about him. I guess the way you described the stray really got to me... "stupid friendly" that's Oliver in a nutshell and it was easy for me to imagine him getting loose accidentally and running down to the road to a logging operation and sayin' hi to everybuddy whilst looking for friends and food and feeling nervous he didn't know where he was.

Your update that animal control never came and you never helped him just eats me up. I do understand about the pup and applaud you for keeping the unvax'ed pup away from teh stray but I hope this thread got you thinking and in the future you think creatively to keep your dogs safe while helping a dog in need.

That could have been anyone's dog on this board, even yours and truely it hurts my heart to know he wasn't helped yesterday and we'll never know what became of him... I hope some other "crazy dog lady (or man)" like me saw him running down the road last night, called him and he came happily running into her car for a warm bed and dinner last night... i hope.

As was already posted... no need to reach out to leash a dog, you can turn any dog leash into a slip collar by slipping the clip end through the handle loop and using that resulting loop as a way to safely secure the dog... it automatically tightens.

That's my Apollo, too. He LOVES people, and if he were ever lost he would follow and hang around the first person/people he saw. It breaks my heart not knowing what happend to the stray. I hope nothing bad but...but we'll never know. Poor, poor pup. I don't think I could sleep at night knowing this dog could be out there alone, possibly getting attacked by coyotes, possibly getting hit by a car, possibly getting picked up by people with ill intentions, especially when I could've prevented it. I just hope your dogs never get lost.

I try to treat strays like I would want my own dogs treated if they were to get loose.....

I guess my Jack could be described as "stupidly friendly."  Friendly dogs rock.

Suppose it's a heck of a lot better than cunningly aggressive........

Being one of those people who seems to be a 'stray' magnet I feel a responsibilty to the OP to pass along advice I received from my vet when my Bandit was a pup and I took in a stray terrier mix.  Even though I thought I did good by keeping them in separate areas until I could vet the stray, according to my vet just touching one and then later touching the other could spread disease.  "No sense in keeping them apart unless you go thru decontamination procedures with each every time", she said.

I hope and pray that your stray finds someone who will help him.

Wow - what an attitude toward a stray dog from a supposed dog lover!! I agree with everyone here who is shocked at your response to a stray bothering you and your puppy/dog at your place of business. That poor stray! *EDITED: Personal Attack*

    *EDITED: Rude*

Have a nice day and I hope your dogs never run away *EDITED: Rude* What a shame!

I helped save 2 dogs today! As soon as I woke up thismorning around 8:00 I got a call from my cousins (you know, the ones who stole Max) Anyways. They said that they had cought a dog that was running through their front yard. I think it was a blue healer (x). The other one, a dalmation took off. So my cousin jumped on his bike and went after it. He had it cornered in someones fenced yard. I went to pick up the 1st dog and then went to get the dal. The Dal was so scared and very timid. He seemed to be hurt to because one of his back lets was shaking as if he had been hit by a car. But once he saw we were nice (we gave him some food) and saw that we had his friend with his he came egarly. Both dogs had rabies tags and one had a license. So I took them into the shelter where I volunteer and had them impounded. I felt so good! That was my good deed for the day! Saving 2 strays!
