Kila -- that's going to be mis-spelled for the rest of her life.  And for anyone from New Yawk it sounds like a hitman (she's a kill-ah??)

 Sorry, it's not romantic and it's not 'unique' but kids are cruel and the US Mail is never right -- it gets REALLY old having someone spell your name wrong *every* time.

Kasha is a coarse bulgar-wheat kind of stuff -- eww (if I was the kid I'd have a hissy the first time I found that out *grin*)

I understand what you're saying but most of them will be seriously mis-pronounced -- Kita will become "kite", Kina will become "kind"

Is Kyra supposed to be with a long "Y" sound or supposed to sound like "Kir-a" (short i sound)

Not trying to be a pain -- but as most of you know "Callie" is simply a nickname for me.  My 'real' name is one I absolutely loathe (and have since I was old enough to run the other way when my mother used it -- the ONLY time I got called my 'real' name was when I was in trouble). 

So I tend to play devil's advocate -- I know all the heinous things *I* got called growing up (and my surname was "Perkins" so I had pancake jokes out the ying yang)

Any of the above could be pretty -- just try to make sure the derivatives are kind.  There's no win/win situation but you can sort of mitigate your damages if you're careful.  Make sense?

 Well, I would personally pronounce Kila, Key-la same with Kela.  Kira and Kyra are the same pronounciations in my book too.  Kina - Key-na, Kita - Key-ta.  Kiri would be the same as Kira, but with a long E sound at the end.  BTW, I pronounce Kali the same as Callie. 

I'll let him know about Kasha.  I don't like it either, did for a second when he first thought of it, but after a bit it just didn't sound good.  Kaci is the only one we seem to even closely agree on.

Do you pronounce Jaia like Jay-ah?  That's always how I've read it, but was never really sure.  I like Kaia if thats the case.

I think unless you stick with the "Kal" sound anything with a K would "match" and since Kale and Kali are taken, that only leaves Kalo, Kalu and Kala, the only one of which I like at all is Kala. I think Kari and Kali sound too much alike, for my taste, but Kaci is nice. I've always like Kayla as well.

Or you could break the mold and come up with something totally different!

One cool thing with names, a guy a dated a long time ago, his name was Dan and his initials DAN and his sister Jen her initials were JEN. Too bad I can't think of how to do that with my last name!

Haha, when my nephew was born, his parents were naming him Noah, and their last name begins with an A, so I was REALLY pushing for the middle name to start with an O (I was pushing Owen, because it's a family name) , so his initials would be NOA. They ended up naming him Noah Michael.. Stupid brother-in-law's name. lol

I also like Kala still..prounounced like Kah-la, like you said, or like Calla..though I guess that's too close to Kali. Hm...

I think Jaia and Kaia rhyme with Maia. Like..eye-uh. Though I've heard Kay-uh as well, spelled Kaya.

I like Kita too--although it might get mispronouced.  But, it reminds me of that Elton John song, "Nikita".

 I like all of them, unique names are the best hehe

But the ones that stand out to me are Kyra, Kila and Kina.

Has anyone mentioned Kelly? or Kiara?I know a wonderful girl named Kenza. It's an Arabic name and I think it has something to do with being fiery. :) Good luck with this--I know it is soooo hard.

PS: You realize your kids's initials will be KKK? Here in Red Sox Nation that means you've got a good pitcher!
