    Puppy Superstore......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was driving along a major commerical road in Jersey today when I was struck by a sign: NJ Puppy Superstore Now Open....I hit the brakes and pulled into the parking lot, then went into the store. Sure enough the store was a big discount style retailer with dozens and dozens and dozens of cages of puppies stacked all the way around the store. The store also had a fetid smell of urine and feces, making me wonder if they could possibly have enough staff on hand to attend to so many dogs.

Is this a national chain (it had some other name too, like Paws and Claws), or is this some new trend? Bigger and bigger pet stores sellling pups? I've never seen anything like this?

Will it do any good to report this to the state Spca on the grounds of the smell in the store? I've read the state's animal cruelty code and otherwise there's nothing outside the law about a store of this sort that I can tell....

Report it in my opinion.  I would report to both the animal control agency as well as the humane society.  If you really really want to make some trouble, report it to PETA.  That is  a double edged sword of course, but it does get media attention.

Ya know...maybe I am thinking of the WIZARD of Claws?? hmmm....

That store is still a stomach turner tho...I can't say a store selling pups will ever smell as fresh as a daisy...but if it was overpowering then there's definitely something up! I thought there was some regulation on having to cycle the air or something?

Don't remember the name exactly but that's the store location. There are two of them, I see now....One further down the road....

The owners bio says he used to belong to a breed rescue group and is a member of the ASPCA.....

I checked it too. I have never seen prices like that. Why is it that they can get away will selling dogs like this?

Well, heck, look at all his champion Saints - that's surely a reason for him to guarantee any breed of pup.

Need a goldendoodle?  Special order!  Want a rare breed?  They'll find it for you.

Finance for as little as $25.00/month - does it get any better?

If the puppy described above is diagnosed as having hip dysplasia after 6 months from the date of purchase, but within 5 years from the date of purchase, Shake-A-Paw offers the consumer the option of returning the animal to Shake-A-Paw for replacement with another puppy of equal value. The consumer MUST provide Shake-A-Paw with the following in order to qualify for a replacement puppy: A veterinary diagnosis, X-Rays and original AKC registration papers and/or registration certificate. Shake-A-Paw will get a second opinion at it's own expense and the selection of a replacement puppy must be made within 6 months of the consumer's return of the original puppy.

What do you think they do with the returned dogs? [sm=sad.gif]

Along with calling the spca, animal control, PETA I would also call all the major newspapers in the area. Maybe they would bring so much negative attention to the place people will avoid it

Do local newspaper reporters generally understand these things? I'm just as likely to see favorable stories about pet stores opening up in local newspapers. Just a few weeks ago a newspaper had a story about a new trend in pet stores, buying pets on credit. It was all about these great new credit programs. Needless to say, a bunch of local dog owners wrote in with some pretty nasty letters to the editor about that story.....

[:(] Those poor puppies. I was looking through the pictures and I am starting to tear up. They look so skinny and unhappy. [:(][:(][:(

I can't believe people who do this kind of stuff can live with themselves. [:@]

I contacted NJ SPCA. They say they will investigate but unless there are signs of abuse they can't do anything. They also suggested calling health department about the smell, which I did. They say they will investigate too.

Wow, according to that site, they charge more for a pembroke welsh corgi than I paid for MY pup who came from a reputable breeder with champion parents!  >O_o<  I feel for the pups and I also feel for the customers being duped.
