Dogs that do *not* shed?

Standard poodles are also really great all around dogs that don't shed the same way other dog do. I've seen one in agility and it did well. They are not small like the miniature but they have similar coats and do require some grooming. The do good in almost every field. I would suggest a standard almost to anyone because they are such all around dogs for many different people.

If you are looking at German Shorthaired Pointers, you may want to consider a German Wirehaired Pointer or a Wirehaired Pointing Griffin. The wire coats don't shed like regular coats.

Another dog that would excel at agility and sheds less (wire coat) would be a Schnauzer. And they come in mini, standard & giant.

Mini yes.  The larger ones unfortunately no.   That is excel in agility.

How about a Scottie?  They are sweet...can be vocal but most are very smart and can usually be trained to redirect.  My Scottie mix let's me know when strangers are approaching but as soon as I call her to me she knows that barking is to stop.  She does the "Scottie whine" when she sees a squirrel, rabbit or other dog...but it is kind of endearing.  Weasties are very nice dogs as well.

I would not go by that list at all.  Most of those will shed, many, quite a bit.  Youre best bet is to stick with a single coated breed.  Many of the toys are single coated, but still very fun.  For an agility dog, my choice would be a miniture or standard poodle.  VERY smart, they excel at agility and obedience.  Be careful with poodle mixes...most come from not so reputable breeders and most do shed.

What about a papillion?  The ones that I've been around don't shed much at all, and they do well in agility.

Yes...and I thought for many of these breeds to not shed they had to be hand stripped...and in that case couldn't you just card or furminate a shedding dog? My aunt has a Schnauzer that she shaves and she sheds worse tham my aussie [8|] but then, purina isn't the best food for shedding control...

I just read the wikipedia list and there are sure a lot of long haired breeds.

I just love the long haired breeds but they still shed, except when they shed their fur gets traped in the outter coat.  Many have a thick undercoat, the soft down-like fur, that needs to be brushed out often or it will get matter.  Profesinal grooming for a larger dog of this type will run at least $80 and for a dog like a bearded collie it will take 3 houre to groom, even longer for an old english sheepdog which I've very surprized is on the list.

Then to mention long haired breeds get debris traped in their coat almost all the time.  Even if the dog it's self is hypoallergenic that does not mean it can't collect stuff from outside that is not.

I'm pretty sure that Border Collies shed. There aren't a lot of non-shedding breeds. These are the ones that I know of:

The Terrier Group (excluding the Amstaff and Staffordshire Bull Terrier)
    Yorkies
    Maltese
    Shih Tzu
    Poodle (all sizes)

I'm looking at the German Shorthaired Pointer...are those good dogs? I've never had one...or even met one. But they look pretty and are somewhat active. [:D]

They shed a lot, just short hairs....

Have you thought about a Portuguese Water Dog?

The problem is that many shorter haired dogs SHED.  More so than longer haired dogs.  GSDs and labs shed more than any other dog I can think of.  I know my malinois sheds more than the terv's.  If you want a good agility prospect, medium sized, nonshedding dog - I think your best bet is a Standard Poodle or perhaps a larger mini poodle.  Std poodles are some of the most athletic dogs around and you don't have to have it clipped to look like a poodle.
