    Dogs that do *not* shed?

I did search it on this forum but couldn't find anything. My dad and brother have bad allergies, and we are looking at getting a mini schnauzer ;puppy, being that we are having to put my miniature schnauzer, Pepper down. (there is a thread in the "breeds" section)  But we are open to other breeds...if they don't shed. Does anyone know any other breeds off the top of their head that do not shed?
    Thanks so much![:)]

I don't think it's possible for any dog to never shed, but I think certain dogs have less shedding and more importantly less dander that stimulates allergies.  I thought poodles were one...

Here you go, the word you're looking for to search is "hypoallergenic":

(I can't vouch for the accuracy of this list, but it's a good place to start)

Wow! Thankyou Liesje! I noticed alot of the dogs were in the "terrier" group. [:D] Which is not bad. lol    Now the tricky part is finding one that will fit into our household.[:)]

I believe there are breeds that do not drop individual hairs as much as many others..because they do not have "fur" persee...they have "hair" that continually grows, rather than dropping out and continually being replaced. Poodles and Yorkies come to mind. If the hairs are your problem....but for many folks it's the dander or saliva...so you'd need to know that. Low dander breeds are out there, and shampoos and sprays are available for any breed that purport to reduce allergic reactions in people...I've actually heard some of those work!

I'm looking at the German Shorthaired Pointer...are those good dogs? I've never had one...or even met one. But they look pretty and are somewhat active. [:D]

They are INSANELY active, at least the ones I know.  They need a ton of exercise and IMO seem very high strung in general.  I love them, but I don't think I'd ever get one unless I intended to hunt with it.  Also, they slober a LOT.  Our friends have one and it would win a drooling competition against a St. Bernard.  If saliva is what your family is allergic to, this would not be the dog.

Hmmm...ok. My dad's not wanting the yorkies...and he won't go for a jack russel. hehe..wonder why?[:D]  He doesn't like yappy dogs. So German Pointers aren't the way to go?

Oh..in a way I am looking for a somewhat active dog because I am looking for an agility candidate. I love agility.[:)]

Maltese don't shed.  They have hair instead of fur.  They are small dogs and love the arms.  I don't think they would be a good choice for agility, but I don't know.  They are such good dogs.  More baby than dog.  Good luck.

I like maltese...but i don't think they'd be a good dog for agility. And when I mentioned it to my dad..he said absolutely not.[&:]  He's a picky dog person. LOL![:D]

How about a Schipperke?  They are on the list and look like they'd be good at agility!
