"Dog" Names

    "Dog" Names

"Let's name the new puppy a DOG name this time..." the boyfriend says.

He dislikes that our Pomeranian has a "human" name: "Kayla Marie" which he has now turned into "Keelah Monstah" and she happily responds to either or "KM"

What are some good "DOG" names? [we're getting another Pomeranian puppy]

     ha I love Keelah Monstah!

I'm not good with names though, sorry! I do like goofy names that I can string out though just to get the dog going.

    Jewlieee

I do like goofy names that I can string out though just to get the dog going.

Reminds me of my friend's cat.  I named him Maximus, but she routinely referred to him as "Maxy-loo-loo-noo-noo-booo."

I named my dogs after what they look like and how they act.  Coke has a "bubbly" personality and is black/rich brown, so he is Coca Cola, "Coke."  Kenya is very calm, mellow, happy, and her coloring ranges from rich red to creme/white to a dusty black, so she is called "Kenya" after the colors and the atmosphere of said country.

Ummmm, somehow I can't see a pom named Duke or Thor or Rex.  Just doesn't seem to fit.  Bruiser, Bertha, none of those work for me with a little dog.  Good luck coming up with something appropriately doggie that still fits the dog!

    Men!  (shaking head)

     ha I love Keelah Monstah!

haha yes it is quite cute! He calls her "monster" after Monsters Inc. (one of his favorite movies... yes he's a very YOUNG 29yr old haha) so at first he was like "eerrrmmmmmm muh maaaaaaaaaaanstah!" then somehow it became "my keeeelah monstahhh! you know... monstah have big faaangs... and big claaaawws... and their fuuuurrry...." lol he's such a dork and i love him

I named my dogs after what they look like and how they act.

Me too! Kayla was named Kayla for a reason! On my first day of pre-school this little girl came up to me all bubbly and hyper saying "hi! my name is kayla pool! will you be my friend? i like your hair? what's your favorite color? want to go play with the sand toys?!" and when I first saw kayla she just licked my face to death and bounced around all happy like "hi! my name is kayla!" so then next thing you know I was saying HI KAAAYLA! :o)

So all though its a "human" name it still served a purpose.... First Friend & First Dog got the same name. Hopefully once we meet our new pup it will just "come" to me as did the rest of my dog names.

    Men!

ha... tell me about it. Sometimes he calls her "Airo-dynamic turbo beastie monster" and I'm just like... can't she have a CUTE and CUDDLY name?! and he's like "psh no way she's my monstah!"

I tend to think of my dogs as persoinalities rather then by their names, I dont know by. Its weird. heh

There is a cute standard poodle in my puppy calss named Fido but its spelled Phido. Some other 'dog' names I can think of are Rover, Dee Oh Gee, and Spike. lol A pom named Spike, that would be funny.

    Pomeranian <3
What are some good "DOG" names?

Do some research into the geographical origin of the Pom.  Find some era or other timeline types of names, or even names of towns or cities in that area.  Historical names are great too.

    • Gold Top Dog

JIffy is a cute name lol I don't know where i got it from, I just kind of thought of it lol.

Zack's name was Spike the first two days we had him lol then decided that ehhhh we didnt quite like that name for him.

I had a dog named Bear before, and a dog named Goliath (though I don't think that name fits for a pom!)

Why is no one seeing the obvious, here?

    FLUFFY!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I love "Fluffy". Nobody names their dog Fluffy, any more. I am going to have a true hairless Chinese Crested named Fluffy, one day. I tried to name a friend's dog Fluffy, but she changed it to Larry. Her husband's idea.

I didnt pick Boomers name it picked him lol i sat down in the car after getting him and my brain just called him Boomer so thats what his name is.

as for a Pom name its Furrtastic and Furr for short lol oh or maybe name it cheesecake lol i think it depends on the personality. if you want a tougher name try hmm Tazz or Wombat! yes Wombat as in the animel in the zoo and the wild for some reason when i think of a tough Pom acting all defensive and such Wombat comes to mind lol one of my cats is named Weasel Stomping Day lol Weasel for short.

and Emiley has a human name again just the name that came to mind when i first met her.

What about POM-POM? for a pomeranian----did I spell it right?

    • Gold Top Dog

I like names that show personality (yeah "Billy the Venturin English cocker spanYELL is really "Bilbo" -- get it??)

My "Prissy" was THE most appropriately named dog ever -- she WAS!!

How about Caileen (Gaelic for "little girl";) (say it like "Colleen" only more like "Ka-leen";) or try something similar in your own native ethnic group's language

    FLUFFY!!!!!!!!!!

Haha! I was thinking the same thing!!! I named a shelter stray "Fluffy" a few weeks ago... one of the volunteers said "that's stupid". I said - there are no other "Fluffy's" in the kennels. And the converstation ended there.

    There's also "Puff".

Did you know wombats are actually well known for killing dogs?? If a dog goes down a wombat hole, and the wombat is in residence, they will back up to the dog and crush it against the roof of the burrow, or try to suffocate them in dirt. They have a bony plate on their backsides designed for crushing predators that venture into their burrows.

Wombats are hard core little critters, though. And baby wombats are to die for they are so cute.

What about Fifi? Or Defa (Defa dog)? I secretly want a dog called Turf.

LOVE all the suggestions so far :o)

I like PomPom, Puff (PowerPuff), Caileen, Fifi, Fluffy, and all the cute names but I know the boyfriend would be like "ummm no..." hahaha but I will run them by him.

When it comes to ethnic backgrounds, I'm German and so are Poms! :o) Maybe something that sounds cool in German? For the most part Germanic Languages (English, German, Pollic, Russian) don't sound all too pretty like the Romantic Languages (Spanish, French, Italian)... but there are some cute funny words that come to mind...

    • "Mini" is the german word for "Miniature"
    • "Klein" (kline) is the german word for "Small"
    • "Spitz" is the german word for "Pointy/Pointed"
    • "Genau/Genaush" (gah-now) is the german word/phrase for "Exactly/Precisely"
    • "Tschuess" (choo-ss) is the german word for "Bye"
    • "Taenzer / Tanz" is the german word for "Dancer / Dance"
    • "Leibe" is the german word for "Love"
    • "Pelz" is the german word for "Fur/Furry"........

haha idk... not many "cool" german words

I wanted something unique... ya know?
