hello, I dont know if you got a new dog yet, but if you didnt there is one more option. Maybe you could donate your time to a local shelter that needs help walking, playing, and training dogs awaiting adoption. At that time you will be around them as often as you have time. then maybe you can find the right dog for your situation. good luck let us know how it turns out.

Awww, he is just the sweates looking doggy, gotta love that tag and collar. Yep petco/petsmat is always a drain on my wallet also, Especily when I let Giz choose her toys. I like thoes places because Giz can go in with me and I let her decide what she wants.

Hes so cute!!!  I LOVE the pictures of him in his bed, I can just imagine how much hes loving that after who knows what hes been through.  Good for you for giving him the loving home he deserves!  Im sooo sooo glad to hear that... its so horrible the things some people do... but there are stories with happy ending and that was probably the best thing that ever happened to him!  Just really glad yall found him.

They do leave our wallets empty but are WAY worth it![:)][:)]

is it possible for people to experience seperation anxiety themselves when leaving an animal? my wife and i left him alone today for the first workday and i don't know about my wife, but it's killing me.

we made sure to slowly ease him into being alone since we went out for a short time on friday and a little bit longer on sunday (it was raining all day saturday), we left the house dog-proofed, he has food/water, a place to pee, etc, but i can't get over leaving him.

...and i work too far away to check back on him during lunchtime. [sm=sad.gif]

Congrats on the new doggie!  [:D]  I worry all the time when I leave our dog home by himself!  Some of it's justified, since this weekend he bent his metal crate all up when home for under 90 minutes by himself, but mostly I worry about the unknown - and thats the best reason to have him in a crate for me.  no chemicals that he can get to even if I'm sure are out of his reach, no blinds for him to tear down, no telephones for him to chew, no 45lb dog jumping on the kitchen table.  I do understand your reasons for not crating him though - let us know if he gets into anything and how he did.

But, since you don't know exactly how he'll respond to being home all day, I think it's totally normal to be worried, and sad to be separated.  Just think how happy you'll BOTH be to get home to each other! [:)

    thanks, nicole.

i considered crating him, but we both work too far away to have time during lunch to come home and let him out, unfortunately.

so far he's been an obedient and trustworthy dog...let's see how he does this week. if anything, i could buy a fence and let him hang in the kitchen area 'til we get home.

does anyone recommend leaving on the radio set to classical music at a low setting so he has some auditory stimuli?
    • Gold Top Dog
the kitchen idea might be a good one for him.  you shall find out when you go home!  Isn't it exciting to have a new dog? [:)]  Its great to have someone waiting for you when you get home all excited and tail waggin'.

We leave the TV on, some animal show of sorts usually and it helps drown out outside noises - kids playing, for example, might set him off barking/howling more than usual (if there is a such thing as more since he does howl most of the time we are away) but it's hard to tell if it actually does anything.

I do think that background noise of sort is better though, since if you do have a lot of noises close to the house it might not scare him as much if there is "white noise" blocking some of it.  Think of it this way, it certainly shouldn't be doing him any harm to have radio or TV, and maybe it will help.

oh, i'm excited, but now i'm all ancy to get home and see him. [;)]

i considered leaving the television on like you said, but the only television in the vicinity is our 65" mitsubishi behemoth. the other rooms have the doors closed, so that's not an option either.

i may just leave the radio on, but at a low setting. see how that goes.

and i know, no speed metal. [sm=biggrin.gif]

I'm editing my post because I somehow didn't get like the last 50% of the posts to display for me...so my comment was WAY WAY too late. [:D] Cuuuuute dog!!
    • Gold Top Dog
I have been away for a few days, so didn't see this post till now!

Just wanted to say Congrats on the new dog.  He is the cutest little thing.  I think that you and your wife saving him is just soooo awesome!

My dogs are home alone during the day and do fine!  I do NOT think that it makes you a bad owner just because you don't have the ability to stay at home!

As long as you give him exercise when you are home, and lots & lots of love and attention.... he will do great!

I wish you all the best of luck!

    thank you both.

i hope he's been a good boy while we were out. [sm=no%20no%20smiley.gif]

Awwww, he looks like a sweetie pie. It was meant to be! He looks like he's pretty healthy, nice coat for an abandoned dog... a Yorkie's typical lifespan is about 15 years, so you have well over a decade to enjoy your sweet little man. Best of luck with him!

for those of you who were wondering why i named the dog "r.c.," i decided to upload a [linkfew>http://www.encircling.us/audio/rc/]few audio files[/link] to familiarize you guys with the phil hendrie character (and by "character" i mean the voice impersonation he does).
