I rescued a Viszla

    I rescued a Viszla

I saw an ad on craigslist saying " FREE AKC VISZLA"  3 year old purebred Viszla, not fixed and needs shots. Very loved must rehome, good with kids and other dogs.   So I e mailed them asking why they were just giving himaway like that, along with a TON of other questions about him and his history. Well a man wrote me back telling me that this was his adult daughters dog and she got him as a puppy 3 years ago. Well she moved away and got her own place with the dog 2 years ago and also got a new job that has her working VERY long hours and she is hardly ever home, her dad tells me that she's been complaining about this dog because she leaves him in a crate while she's gone and sometimes he poops and pees in his crate while she's gone. Well heres the kicker, she has been leaving him in this crate for days at a time and only feeding him tiny amounts of food every other day if he is lucky.Angry She said she doesn't like feeding him when she is going to be gone a long time because then he will potty inthe crate and she doesn't want to clean it up. Angry  But she is gone more than she's home often staying gone a full 24 - 42 hours at a time, leaving this poor very active dog in a small crate with no food or water to lay in its own urine and feces because he can't hold it that long and this dog IS potty trained!!!  He will go to the everytime he needs out!!!  So the dad has been very upset with his daughter about how she's treating him and pushing her to find him a new home, he has been at her for months and finally she agreed, so he put him on craigslist for her because she still wanted to keep him and I saw the add and after hearing all of this I felt I had to help him. So now he is with me and my family! [:)]
I have never owned a Viszla before but have had many other breeds and know a lot about dogs in general, I have also been doing a TON of research on this breed and have learned a lot about Viszlas.  He is absolutly sweet! He loves my other dogs and my children, he sits, lays, and shakes on command, and always goes to the door when he needs to go out to potty. He is very skinny and I know this breed is suppost to be slender but he is under wieght so we are working on that. I also have an appiontment to get him neutered and all his vaccinations done next week.  I am just so sad and frustrated that some people do things like this to helpless animals. I know this was long so thanks for reading it!  Also ~ Here is a picture of him, his name is Ty.

Does his daughter have some kind of mental deficiency?  Who in their right mind would leave a living creature locked up in a cage for days at a time and expect it not to go to the bathroom?  Withholding food is also cruel.  I hope that she never gets another animal.

On the other hand,  I'm very happy that you took this dog into your home.  Viszlas are beautiful athletic creatures.  They don't deserve to be locked up all day.  Thankfully this dog won't have that fate with you.

Wow! I'm so glad you rescued this guy! He's beautiful! And what a good dog for having been treated so cruelly! Keep us updated on Ty. It's good to hear a happy ending.

Oh I can't even get into how angry it makes me to know how he was treated, I am SO mad and sad at the same time. If you met this dog you wouldn't believe how sweet he is for being so badly neglected and undersocialized.  I do to hope and pray that she never gets another animal again because you can't treat them like this! These are living breathing feeling creatures who have emotions and needs and wants just like we do, Im glad I have him now but at the same time Im sad because I know there are others out there being mistreated that I can't save.  I wish I could just open up my own rescue center for mistreated and unwanted animals and help them get back on there feet and find them truely loving homes, mabe one day I can I really want to do that. He gets to sleep on the couches now or pretty much where ever he wants and I don't want him to ever be in a crate again, so I use a baby gate and put his bed in the kitchen when I have to leave him.

Congrats on your new family member! He is one lucky boy to find you, I bet he's only a better dog for all he had to suffer though. What a handsome & well behaved boy... goodness who could lock him away?!?

I have hopes to own this breed myself in the future, they sound like healthier (genetically) short haired Golden Retrievers. :)

    He's GORGEOUS!

    I love Viszlas!

Aw, look how long his nails are!
I'm glad you got him and took him in and are going to care for him the way he should be taken care of!

Awwwwwwww what a pretty boy.   I'm so glad that he'll know what real love is now.    Its amazing how forgiving dogs can be.    Congratulations

    1. Thank you so much for taking this dog. I don't care that you have never had a viszla - I'm betting your fair effort is better than what he's put up with until now.

    2. I think there's a place for corporal punishment in society. People like her should be taken to the town center and whipped.

    3. Look at those nails! Sigh.

He's gorgeous!  The beauty of dogs is that they can be treated horribly by humans and yet still not lose the ability to love - we can learn so much from them!

Bless you for saving this poor guy. Stories like his make me sick to my stomach. I cannot fathom even thinking about treating an animal that way.

I wish there was some way to ensure that that dimented woman never gets another animal.
