    Westminster this year?? (miranadobe)

My friend's White Bull Terrier is going again this year.  He was invited this year rather than vying for the lottery spots like they did last year.  So his owners are especially excited.  His main competition will likely be BOV, but we can hope for a better showing than last year - Bugsy was just too distracted and unhappy to be there.  It's mighty hot, crowded, and stressful, so I give huge kudos to those dogs who do well in that environment!!

Anyone else have a vested interest in watching Westminster on Monday/Tuesday?  Any friends, family, or dogs of interest that you will be watching??

I was wondering when it was, i'm glad you brought it up. I love watching the working group-it has my favorite selection of dogs. my 2 faves are always the dobes and RRs

I always try to watch it but then my husband gets all Winkannoying, like "what kind of dog is that," and "why do they have those silly haircuts" and, "that judge has fat ankles"...  so we have to watch COPS or some stupid things.....

Unfortunately I'll miss soem of it, since i teach obedience classes both nights.. as for dogs though, i do have some hopes..

For akitas- i absolutely love CH. Buckridge's Showtime Celebri TE- hes a stunning dog..and his owners are wonderful people- i am a little bias though i guess, sence they own two of my Diesel's sisters! I also like CH Stardust Sherob Georgia On My Mind- shes a beautiful bitch..Diesel actually tried to bite her one day in the ring..eek..i think it was aplay nip though!  Dont know for sure if either are going, but both were invited I believe..( i know Georgia was, not sure on Major. Of course, Macy, Ch. Redwitch reason to Believe is just a fabulous example of the breed!

As for Beaucerons- CH. Arco Du Chateau Rocher- my breeder owns/bred him! Hes currently the number one beauce in the country (and has been for a while now), and hes my Tessa's cousin!

    I'll be watching!

    Westminster is still benched, right?

We'll watch the working & herding groups for sure.  If BF doesn't get bored, I'll watch the hounds as well.  I'll likely skip the other groups & come back just in time to see who's Best of Show.

    I'm 95% sure it's still benched.

I'm super excited to watch this year, too, as we've actually got cable!  (We don't purchase it, and we don't steal it...for some reason when we plug in the antennae for the tv we just get it.  I'm not complaining.)   My love for confirmation showing is warring greatly with my firm belief in rescue, though, as I just read the Westminster Kennel Club's "Buy Dogs From a Breeder".

I don't understand why they push this philosophy because they don't go into detail about what a qualified and reputable breeder is.  They encourage the breeding philosophy when there are tons of homeless dogs and puppies out there, and many, many, of those are purebred or close to it.  For the average person looking for an average pet-quality dog, rescue is the way to go.  When people don't want to spend too much on a puppy then a reputable breeder is going to charge 'too much', so they turn to the newspaper and craigslist and don't get the dog they're looking for anyway, because the byb pups don't grow into the Westminster Champion look-a-likes.

Because the above issue has never been brought up, debated, or discussed on this forum.  :oP   :oD

Oh, I'll be watching!  ... I'm trying to soak up their handling skills like a sponge :)

Also, Logan has 2 cousins that i believe will be there one on his sires side and one on his dams.  The one on his dam's side took BOB last year at Westminster, so if they repeat their win I'd get to see him in Group.

Funny, I watched it last year... and had *no* idea (of course) granted I was still researching breeds at that point.

Good luck to everyone's favorites and GO WEIMIES!  Big Smile

Yep, my friend will be there with her Samoyed, Dasani.

I so much prefer watching Westminster on USA network over anything on Animal Planet. On USA they actually show you the movement, coming, going and sidegait. Add in the fact that I will TIVO it, so rewind and slow motion can be done. Plus, it is live so they do not cut out the less popular breeds.

Westminster is my Superbowl.  I always request off especially for it every year, and make tons of food.  Personally, I'm a big fan of the Working and Herding Groups, watching specifically for the Rough Collies, Alaskan Malamutes, Siberians, Aussies, BCs, and...really all of them!

By the way, Lani, I totally thought of you when Marge took the Sporting Group at the National Championship earlier this month.  I'm assuming she'll be at Westminster, so go Weimies!!

This year was a bit hard for me because it is the first year that I have had a dog invited and am not going. The judge has had Monty several times and never touched him and with the #1 Hound being the 15 inch Beagle, we had no prayer of doing anything. It was sort of sad to open that invitation knowing that we would not be going.
I'm sure I will watch it and have many friends going, so am hoping that they do some winning. Should be interesting to see what happens!

Westminster is 100% benched..... I know we won't ever show there since I can't stay in one place all day.. Monday we have Hounds !! We are pulling for several beautiful Rhodeasians  we'd just llike to see one get a piece of the group ! When the terriers show we have the Man , Zack a Border Terrier who flies on Krispy Kreame One, such a darling boy  And we have friends there who we will watch for in the audience. One of the highlights will be the Take a Lead Party... I envy them a chance to do all of it. I won't show ther but It would be a dream to wander it for the entire show....maybe one day ...

I'll be recording it to watch later. I love watching the dog shows - even though sometimes I just don't understand that world.

I always root for the husky, of course, who never gets a 2nd glance. And this year I'll be rooting for the aussie as well :)
