    Republican/Conservative Corner

[If you are not Republican/Conservative then please be respectful of this thread; clarification given by Benedict below on fourth post] **content removed, rude/baiting**

Who is a declared Republican? Who tends to lean more to Republican values? Who is Conservative?

What would you like to see happen with a new President in office? What do you hope for our nation's future? What do you value?

    Let's talk Republican/Conservative :o)

    Edited by Benedict.

MONEY is what drives my vote.

Most of my issues with the nation are "state" issues; so when it comes to picking a president, by that time I tend to lose hope! ha...

I want more money in my hands. I don't want to fund the robot on Mars. I don't want to fund congress's paychecks. I don't want to fund the older people. I don't want to fund the unemployed. I want my money to fund my family, my needs, my life.

In the state of MA we have money taken out directly for our State, Welfare, and Medicare. Ouch... and Federal on top of that. After that we then get taxed on property, excise tax, road/toll tax, sales tax, gift tax, ownership tax, amt, honestly i have no idea about all of them but they are there and it's making us all broke!

Want to know how to help the economy? GIVE ME MONEY! I can barely buy groceries! When I lived with my father (rent free, debt free) and had money I bought myself three computers, flat screen tv, 4 ipods.... psh I was deff helping the economy then! But guess what? Now I'm in the real world and I'm going further and further into debt each day... yay!...

I have to somehow come up with $500 in March for excise tax... ummm how am I going to do that? how... psh my boyfriend's car is even MORE expensive so he'll be paying MORE THAN ME!! It's just insane! He makes double what I make but because of taxes & life expensive in the end we're both in the same boat finanically... its so screwed up!

If the House becomes Democratic I'm so screwed... I might as well pack up and move to the south b/c I won't be able to live here anymore. Because of all these benefits they are all talking about and all of their recession plans they are going to raise taxes more and that leaves me with nothing to survive.

The more you make, the more they take... that is so so so so wrong....

Hmmm…. I am not sure you are going to allow me to post on this thread????????  Republican/ democrate is very black and white.  What if you aren’t for either party… what if you are more of a moderate or independent?  What if you vote for the candidate and not the party?

    Admin note....

No threads are "closed" to those of a particular opinion, there is merely off-topic and on-topic.  However, I would point out that since the OP wishes to discuss republican/conservative views, those not doing so would be off-topic and edited for that.  I would also ask that members do not rise to a perceived "challenge" where there isn't one.

    Thank you for the clarification.

Again, I state that I am neither party specific… I vote issue by issue and whatever candidate “claims” to support more of my “hot issues” I will usually vote for,   Quite often I only vote for whom I believe is the “lesser of the evils”.  In today’s race... I am voting McCain

i dont know what misconceptions you have about the south, but it isnt all peaches and cream here either.

"The more you make, the more the take..." that is just life.

as far as tax increases go, there have been plenty of republicans enacting tax increases as well. i seem to remember one such politician stating something like "read my lips... no new taxes" during his campaign, but what was the first order of business??? raising taxes. (and he wasnt a democrat!)

In the state of MA we have money taken out directly for our State, Welfare, and Medicare.

that makes you part of the status quo. both states i have lived in did/do the same.  the only tax you can avoid is sales tax... but only if you cease buying things.

my wife and i have a considerable amount of debt. it sucks, but one thing i finally realized is that i didnt have to have all the stuff that i thought i needed.

LMAO Cathy!  See.. I KNEW I liked you! Big Smile

I REALLY want a swing in the pendulum to the other side for awhile, but I cant feel comfortable voting that way this time with the current candidates.  I am actually far LESS conservative... and likely not conservative enough for the thread, but again, i dont vote party all the time. I vote issues and specific candidates.

And Brad, I agree about your spending comment.  If you cant afford things, then maybe you need to look at what you are buying.  Big Smile

i dont know what misconceptions you have about the south, but it isnt all peaches and cream here either.

In the end it does all seem relivant... Down south you pay less but you also make less. When it comes to the job marketing that I work in I could find a job down south and I think actually feel "better off" than up north.

When it comes to being a software engineer or tech person there are more job opportunities up here as well as a higher pay rate. So therefore people like that are better off to just stay up here in Taxachusetts.

I would be better off in a state with higher sales tax and less everything else tax. I don't think its fair to double dip and tax high on property you all ready own, etc etc

here as well as a higher pay rate

Kinda balances out with the real estate prices tho, doesn't it?

Sales tax in Arlington is I think 8.00%...it's been low as 7.25 since I've been here. The one thing that is crazy here is the cost of property taxes.

    >>what if you are more of a moderate <<

What exactly is a "moderate?"  What does a "moderate" believe in, politically?  I can pretty much describe a conservative.  I can pretty much describe a liberal.  I cannot describe a moderate.  Can you?

    >>What if you vote for the candidate and not the party?    <<

If you vote for the candidate and not the party, IMO, you don't understand how politics works.  Politics, you see, is a game of numbers.  We are not a dictatorship here.  Individuals, even the President of the United States, have little power.  They must seek a consensus.  Clearly, that is easiest to do within one's own political party.

You see, I consider myself most closely aligned with the Libetarian party.  But a libertarian isn't electable, nationally.  So, I have to look at THE PARTY that is electable and most closely represents my views.  When I do that, I vote republican.

When you make $x,xxx but your bills are $x,xxx... the spending is BILLS! Car payment, car insurance, rent/morgage, property tax, town tax, state tax, excise tax, interest rates, debt.... if I want to drive to work I have to pay money to even be on that road!

I've done the math and a Rep. government that has higher sales tax and lower "personal  life tax" (as I like to call it haha) would suit me better. Thus my sad fate of most likely leaving MA one day... unless the hubby continues to make more and more money I've got him.

When I have this Rep/Dem discussing with people who live in Rep governed states they never seem to understand why I'm complaining since they don't understand the "extra" taxes we have.

What makes me "more" Rep is money decisions like this

It does, but honestly... not enough. Can't buy a morgage here for anything less than 3,000 a month lately and on top of that you have property and town taxes! Not to mention utilities and other life expenses... I feel robbed! :o(

Just to put things into perspective without trying to purposely give away my personal life information... our combined family income is $76,000... and we can't afford a house...

Now lets look at another example. One of my families that live in Florida have combined family income of $82,000 and they live extremely comfortably...

Situations like that make me go... hmmm..............

Here's even a better example... a $95,000 home in FL is worth $300,000 in MA (in some areas).... that is a HUGE difference... see what I mean?

I see what you mean, and it's the same here in California compared to many other areas. Real estate is very expensive but it doesn't have anything to do with government and I'm not sure it has much to do with taxes or government. You wouldn't want government changing or controlling the price of real estate, right?

RIGHT! So let me clarify... I would like more money in my hands to be able to afford the expenses life throws at me. I feel like my paycheck is next to nothing after taxes and I also feel like I'm being taxed left and right from the government. If we can reduce expenses or raise income (even just a little bit!) I could live without so much financial stress ya know???

And I that could speak for many people other than myself. I many people wish they could make just that extra $200 even? or even another $1,000 month that is LIFE changing...
