I bought a cocokapoo on line and we love her

I find it interesting that there is a consensus that it's not OK to make a profit off of breeding dogs, but we live a society based on making a profit off of everything. People make a profit off of treating terminally ill cancer patients, for example, but I never hear people outraged about that. Not that I disagree with you guys. Not everything in our society should be commodified, but personally there are outcomes I find more offensive than puppy mills (like people dying because they can't afford medical treatment).

Well like I said before we boght this puppy because their good dogs and smart and if you go on line and type in breeds it has cockapoos on there but that doesnt even matter we got what we wanted and thats that so what is your problem with this I dont understand. I came on here to say not all breeders on line are bad ones. You are very devensive on this subject. Have a bad dog deal or what.

Well we didnt buy a mutt and we didnt buy it to breed we bought her because its what we wanted.

I have no doubt that you love your mutt, but let's call it what it is...a mutt.  It is half Cocker Spaniel & half Poodle & full nothing.  You can name it whatever you want but.......................................................................................................................

    BottomLine = Mutt.

    Cocoloco,

My politics are free market libertarian. Ethical breeders don't make a profit not because it is not noble to make a profit on this commodity, but because the upfront expenses of breeding a good dog outstrip the unit price the market is willing to bear. It is not the only industry where this is the case - the petrochemical industry would have considerably less profit if they were to take up the real costs of producing gas, for example. I imagine an ethical breeder would love to be able to live off the proceedings of producing the best of his or her breed.

Thats true you do have a point but just because I wanted to buy a puppy that I wanted it upsets you. I catch all neighbor stray dogs and keep in my yard til owner is found I do my share yes I have been to kennel but with having grandkids I need to have a puppy I know I raised cause I had a chow for 4 years and bit my son in the face had to have alot of stitches. So there is good thing and bad thing about kennels. But I do check kennels out.  So its great you rescue animals but cant rip a hole in everyone that doesnt get there dogs at kennels people should be more caring for there pets.

Romania, Canada. Nice place to live...especially without those pesky common Goldens everywhere!

Romania, Canada?? *Goes and gets the atlas out...*

Did you find Romania, Canada? I admit I've never heard of it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist right?

This looks like a thread to stay out of but here I am. Just my [sm=2cents.gif] here. When I was in collage many moons ago. I got a cockapoo puppy from people that were going to take her out and shoot her. They never thought about taking her to the HS I guess or just didn`t want to bother doing it. Anyway I gave them 5.00 for the pup (which is all that I had on me at the time) and had them write out a bill of sale so they couldn`t come back on me latter and I took her home. She was the nicest dog ever and had no health problems. Did I buy her online? no. I`m not sure their were computers back then. Now I have Molly. I saw a ad in the farm forum (a paper we get here) Went and saw her and the rest of the pups from the litter. Pick her and she came home with us. After that I found out that Mollys breeder has a web site to sell her puppies. The breeder had the mom and dad health tested I was told and the pups went in to the vet after they were born to get checked. She also said that she would take Molly back if health problems arise. So thats my story and I`m sticking to it.

Oh please. Nobody said anything to indicate they only like purebreds. We're on you for doing something irresponsible. Your building this strawman does not help your position.  It reminds me of a joke that goes something like:

Q: "Does this dress make me look fat?"
    A: "It's not the dress."

By the same token you're not getting flack for having a mutt, you're getting flack for buying a mutt for $1100.00 while at the same time purebreds and mutts are being killed in shelters for want of a home.

Its frustrating when people just dont get it.  No, the people on this board do not just love purebreds.  Most people just believe there are only 2 legitimate ways to get a dog.

    1.  Rescue
    2.  A purebred dog from an ethical breeder who also shows dogs and is therefore involved in peer review and bettering the breed.

Beyond that, you are basically contributing to the death of shelter dogs, directly or indirectly.
