A REPUTABLE breeder puts more money INTO the breeding of their dogs and the puppies born than they get back from it. They have all health/genetic tests done, they TITLE their dogs in the ring or in the field. • lisa baker Posted : 4/8/2007 5:48:13 PM Well I researched this breeder and he lives on alot of property with horses his wife raises rare golden retrivers and yes he does most likely make some $$ but he still puts love into his pups mine was potty trained almost when I got her well behaved we had him call her by the name we were going to call her so she knew her name when she got here. Good breeders show/trial their dogs, select only the best representation of their breed, health test for genetic predispositions and then breed maybe. They usually have a waiting list because they don't breed often and they often don't make money doing it. So your premise is quite mistaken. A friend's sister recently bought one of those munchkin cats online and had it shipped to her. She feels she's carried out some kind of coup because it was only $500.00 as opposed to the typical $1000.00!  So I said to my friend, "that sounds awesome. I mean it's not like the HSUS estimates we kill 4 million dogs and cats in shelters every year or anything." Sigh. I swear people would buy navel lint if they thought they could get it at a discount!
