Hey Pom, are you going to encourage your bro to get the dog into things like agility, obedience, conformation and herding?

He's going to need it! My friend has a rescued mini-aussie, and he is FULL of energy. Already working on his CGC. Don't wait to start classes, they are VERY SMART dogs, and will get away with whatever they can.

The dog should be a natural since only the good breeders of mini's are really into proving the working ability of their dogs, anyone else breeding these dogs is well .....  It is really important that these dogs have a job to do as they are very high energy and that energy needs to be focused.

Ed, you are dead on. Obedience, agility, or herding are great recommendations.

Congrats, thats a cute pup! Big Smile

I think the puppy is very cute and I love the blue eyes.  I don't see anything wrong in Pom being excited about this new puppy, she did all she could to educate her family but it didn't work.  It's not like she's going to disown her family for getting a Mini Aussie. Designer breed or not the puppy looks healthy and I'm sure it will be well taken care of.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH! :o)

To everyone who has sent private messages to me & posted wonderful comments THANK YOU! I am truly happy for my family; it is very hard to watch our Sheltie "Meeko" pass and I hope "Peaches" can bring joy and life into the home again!

My brother is 12 years old and extremely active! He's a total surfer beach boy, plays lots of sports, and really wanted an active dog. Meeko was good during her puppy years but wasn't the most active dog in the world. After my family researched the breed my mom felt that it really would be a good fit.

Living on a private island in the gulf of mexico (Little Gasparilla Island) off the coast of south west Florida (Englewood, Port Charlette, Venice) I'm not exactly sure what to recommend to them for "classes" or "shows." My mother is an amazing dog trainer. I swear she's the dog whisperer! "Meeko" is so unbelievably obidient and intelligant its just insane... I'm very eager to see how Peaches does as well. I got lots of advice from "Jewilee" here on the forum about Aussies which was very nice of her (thank you again!) I then told my mom all the information she was saying. I have no doubt in my mind they will have zero issues with training. My mom is a stay at home active mom so Peach will always have someone with her. My mom is that type of person who can be found in the garden, working out, mowing the lawn... she's still young herself in her own ways.

My mom isn't exactly a supporter or against the whole "designer" phase. She's the average America that keeps her nose out of other peoples business. The dog was a great match for the family, adorable, so there for they got her. Yes its hard to believe but its that simple for some people. Most people want a pet, companion, best friend... not a trophy. I wish them the best of luck and all the love in the world to my new niece and Kayla's new cousin! When we visit in June I am going to spoil her rotten!

If anyone in the South West Florida area knows of any cool "shows" they could eventually attend let me know; I'll pass the information along.

And once again to all of the people who have PMed or posted your kind words... Thanks for being great friends! :o)

Gracias Calinisima! Eres una persona muy bonita!

Not sure if my spanish is still good?... haven't taken it since high school! Sometimes I mix up my German & Spanish!

My mom said she was wagging her tail all happy to see them when they came back to visit! I just know it was meant to be.

When I first saw a mini Aussie I could not blieve my eyes.  It was quite a trip.  A lady brings her mini to one of the small breed play classes at the shelter.  The dog was only like 8 or 9 pounds.  Incredibly small.  But that is not normal.  This dog just came out really small.

WELL if you were around for other threads... you'd see that I wasn't happy she was getting a "Mini"

I was told that I shouldn't be too concerned since Mini Aussies have been around for over 40 years now.

My Mom could care less about all the drama and Peaches really did seem like "fate" for them and I totally support it.

Hopefully my 14yr old 45lb Sheltie down there won't be too jealous! Bless her heart she is resting at deaths door and I hating thinking about it... As do they. I know the new puppy will help them cope. It is very hard to watch "Meeko" in her current state. They were hesitant at first because they didn't want to "replace" her... but Peaches was such fate.

My brother was over his friends house about three months ago and they got a new Mini Aussie named "Malibu Breeze". He told my mom about it and he said "I want that type of dog next! If we get the some colors I want to name her Peaches!" Once my mom was convinced it was time to find a new puppy they did lots online searching and found low and behold... PEACHES! After researching the breed an talking to other breeders they decided to just take the long drive up to visit Peaches. My Mom called me on the drive home telling me how wonderful she was and they put the money down and they feel it is so right! I am so happy for them and for my new little niece!

I was there for your other threads, I was wondering if someone was going to ask you about it!  lol  Peaches is adorable though!  Just look at those blue eyes!  I love the name "Malibu Breeze"!  That is so COOL!    You tried, you let them know your concerns, so, what is a person to do.  You really have to lover her though, she's a cutie p'tootie!  Now, when you go down for your visit, you'll have to take pics.  And don't forget pics of Meeko, too!  Maybe, Meeko, will stick around a little longer to teach Peaches how to be a good doggie!  Thanks for sharing your pics!

I don't agree.  BC's are the same, and I have no plans on taking Misty to agility classes, etc.  Although, I wouldn't mind getting my yard set up and trying her out in it.  She gets plenty of exercise here, w/ me on walks, to the park, in the back yard, etc.  In the spring, summer and fall, are even better, because we're boating, so she has the whole boat yard to run around, dogs to play with, and lots of swimming.  Our friend has a regular sized Aussie, and they never did anything but their own training and taking him "Jake" wherever they go, and he's such a well behaved dog.  One reason why I actually liked the herding breed.  If her brother is 12, and is as energetic as she says, the dog will be fine just running and playing with the boy.  Her mother will train her, the boy will tire her out. I don't necessarily believe all Aussies (BC's) or any other herding type dogs, need agility classes or to be herding.  Smile
