Oh, I do feel for Meeko and you (and family). It is so hard to watch them knowing they will be leaving soon. It is so hard to know what to do about a new one. I have faced that situation about three different times. Just recently, I considered adopting a 9 mos old Shih Tzu, but the reaction of my 11yr old Tzu was very disturbing. I opted to find her another home.
About 4 mos ago I took in a 13 + or - Yorkie, Toby. He is in the final days of his life. I don't know how long he has, but about three weeks ago he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I have been so very very careful not to let anything make him feel he is getting one second less attention than anyone else. Then along came Pippin. 3 1/2 mos old and full of energy and curiosity. I was so concerned about my 11 yr old Tzu and my 13 yr old Yorkie.
Yikes! Why do I do these things to myself. After about six weeks, I think everyone is ok. We are all balanced in food and affection. Trinket, my 6 yr old Yorkie still thinks most attention should be focused on her. I think it should be too, but I can't tell her that.
As long as I can give reasonable care (food, vet, love, training), I always have room for one more, but boy is it a balancing act in physical and financial responsibilities and affairs of the heart.
Best of luck to you, your family, Peaches and Meeko....... and of course, Kayla
