Buying a pup online

Alright, well since you're completely set on getting a Cockapoo, I figured I might as well try to help. I looked around and the breeder below is the best I could find. The puppies go home microchipped and already spayed or neutered:

Okay, I've got 2 things to add.

The first is that yes, shelter dogs can come with problem. My mom got a free Stafforshire from her vet as she was a found dog, found in a bad part of town that is prone to dog fighting. She was a sweet puppy, but came with a bladder problem that she has to take medication for or she'll pee all over the place. As she matured she became dog aggressive. You see, we got her as a puppy and she was fine with other dogs, but as she got older she was no longer fine with other dogs. Some people my mom has talked to, her vet and a trainer, think this is because of old memories resurfacing, we think she was used for bait or maybe they tried to train her to fight as she was afraid of bigger dogs when we first got her. So even having her from the time she was a puppy, she still has dog aggression problems.

Actually, it's common for American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers (I believe Bull terriers might be included as well) to become dog aggressive as they mature into adult dogs. It's part of their genetic make up because unfortunately, way back when, people have bred the most dog aggressive dogs to the point that now it's genetic.

You beat me to it. This most likely (almost definitely) has nothing to do with the pups young life and everything to do with genetics.

I have personally bought a puppy from a breeder online sight-unseen.  I made sure the breeder sent me additional photos of the puppy to make sure he was legit.  If you are still unsure, ask for a certain item to be placed with the puppy in the photo so you know for sure it wasn't stolen off another breeder's web page.  I also asked her to take him to the vet for a vet check and had the vet papers sent to me with the pups name, registration number, age, size, breed, etc included in the vet's note.  The breeder was very willing to accomodate my requests and I paid for the vet check along with my deposit to hold my pup.  I was in Email and phone contact with the breeder and sent A LOT of Emails back and forth asking questions.  The main thing I look for in a breeder is how many questions THEY ask ME.  That way I know they are actually trying to find an excellent, suitable home for their pup rather then to just turn a quick profit.  It would have cost me around $200-250 to ship him from Kansas to North Dakota which was my original plan.  Unfortunately, the weather in my area was too awful during that time peiod and the flights weren't allowing pets due to the temperature.  So, I made arrangements to drive all the way to Kansas myself to pick him up.  I was glad I did.  I got to meet relatives and siblings of my pup as well as speak with his owners.  It was a great experience all around.

Whether you choose to go with a breeder or a rescue, I wish you the best of luck in finding a pup or dog!

I understand that you are looking for a smaller dog, and that you want a puppy, but if you are planning to buy one I would take a look at why a purebred might be a better choice as it would allow you to buy from a respectable breeder.

I was also interested in the west highland terriers, but I hear they bark a lot & are very hyper

    You're welcome. I found them on pets4u.com.

I had some more time on my hands so I did a little more searching and found the breeder below on puppysites.com. They health test the parents and ask questions of prospective buyers rather than just selling to anyone who has the money. They also have a spay/neuter contract for puppies and a 2 year health guarantee. The price is a little high; I don't know how much of a factor that is for you.

This website doesn't seem bad but the only health testing they do is CERF, and I didn't see any mention if they CERF the pups prior to being placed in new homes,  and I know that [linkhttp://www.asc-cockerspaniel.org/health/index.asp]Cocker Spaniels[/link] and [linkhttp://www.poodleclubofamerica.org/health.htm]Poodles[/link] do have more health issues than just eye problems. They do mention that the vet checks their kneecaps but it doesn't show if they OFA them. They also only breed for F1 crosses. They don't have their guarantee posted so I would ask to see that to find out how in depth it is. One thing I didn't like was that all puppies must be picked up by 9 weeks of age or they'll charge you a $20 a day boarding fee. Why the hurry to get the dogs out the door? There could be a legit reason or it could be that they got to make room for the next batch of puppies and that could be a sign that they're overbreeding. As far as the price goes, I can't answer why they charge what they do but in all honesty, you could get a pet quality Cocker Spaniel or Poodle from champion parents, with nice pedigrees and who were CERF'd, OFA'd, and tested for other things from a responsible breeder for about the same price, if not less or maybe a bit more depending on where you live.

To make a long story short, they don't seem bad but make sure you ask a lot of questions. Good luck in your search.

You will never hear any good advice from forums like this. Don't second guess yourself.
I have visited with this Kennel and have met the parents to the puppy I purchased. I was fortunate enough to be allowed to come when the Vet was doing the puppy health check. ( He was very thorough). There is nothing wrong here.
In case you don't know, they are very involved with animal rescue. Also having been Wisc.State Licensed Wildlife Rehabers, for the past 7 yrs. Facilities such as these are subject to inspection 365 days a year.
It would also seem that some pedigrees have been slandered.
TopBrass Cody Supreme has an explecit pedigree as anyone can see with the attachment I have inc. Maybe the person placing these slanderous outbursts should apologize to these people. Or better yet, use that energy to go take some unfotunate pound dog for a walk.

Please point out all the "bad advice" that was given. I would also go into depth so Brandy76 can understand why the advice given here isn't sound. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.
