Brando had his surgery today and I am in a quandary

Oh, my boy has been in such terrible pain.We got to the vet's at 9:15 she had an emergency in the shelter area, and didn't get to Brando until 10:45 he was a wreck and while we were waiting he stood for the first time and came to the gate, and duh I thought he was just scared, in pain, I really wasn't thinking I guess, because he had to pee, and pee he did. Luckily I had a Dry-Fur in there and those suckers really work and I was thrilled w/ the company too.
But he got really upset and had to move around to stay away from it he's never wet in his crate, and then when the vet had him on the table he finished up. My poor boy was mortified I could see it in his face.
She put him down on the floor and the little bugger walked all the way to his crate.
I finally got him home at 11::30 gave him his meds fed him and put his soft e-collar on and he is out like a light.
He had been awake since midnight.
Thanks for all of the prayers and kisses

My now 7 1/2 year old golden retriever had her first knee done at 16 months, the other knee done 14 months later.  Her 2ed knee was much worse and required all kinds of things--bone cutting, bone turning, permanent pins, ACL repair.  She was in a splint for a week, kept inactive for 6 weeks.  My vet said larger dogs tend to 'undo the procedure' far more often because of their weight.

KayCee was out of it the first day.  She had the surgery on Thursday and didn't poop until Sunday  I had given her applesauce and put some canola oil on her food in hopes it would work and it did.  She has very sensivie skin and got bad razor burn and then tape burn with the 2ed surgery.  I smeared her with Aloe Vera gel several times a day and it worked wonders for he skin.  Also, due to the fce she had to be kept inactive, she could not roll and scratch her back, etc, i would massage her spine and leg muscles several times a day and she sure did enjoy it.

Well, now 5 years after her last surgery, she runs and jumps and twirls and you would never know that at one time she couldn't even get onto the low sofa, into the car without help, didn't run., etc.  I have had her on joint sups ever since her first surgery.  This is her when she came home from the 2ed surgery.  Also, it is usually better not to totaly try to relieve pain because they will over due if they don't feel pain.  We only gave KayCee pills the first couple of days

Deb, I meant to ask you, how did Brando do with the anesthesia?  I know he had problems in the past with it.  More lovin' to the kids from me.

Oh today was a terrible day, I think I will have my much earned nervous breakdown now! He was is such pain and wanted to go out to pee and when I took him he felt worse. Then the first time I took him I realized he was wet from the night before so I held him and Joe put the blower on him changed his crate mat and blankets put him back and he panted so long and so loudly I thought he would have a heart attack. He has finally calmed down, and is resting for now.

how did Brando do with the anesthesia?
He did really well this time Anne. Thanks  for asking
Thank all of you for being so concerned about this little boy.  I love having you guys to run to.

Sandra, that's exactly how he looked yesterday, except his leg is about the size of Kaycee's toenail. I really appreciate seeing sucess stories.

Awwwwwwwwww, Brando, you're breaking my heart, little boy.  Hang in there guys.  It's GOT to be getting better soon.

Each day will get better, I think you should ship Lil B up here to re-coup with me. I'm limited with my movement and he can take Teddy's spoy in my arms when he fractured his leg...he too was on complete rest so I held him in my lap most nights while watching TV and rubbing his belly to keep him still and not bored...those days will come for Lil B too....just give him a few days, you'll be OK and in no time this will only be a memory

aww, Poor B-Nut...  the first couple of days were bound to be the toughest. Deb, you take care of yourself.  I see brighter days when his glimmeringly happy eyes will thank you for all this effort now - which will allow him joyful romps in the future.
((hugs)) to you all, kisses for Trixie.
