What breed has your dog been mistaken for?

My Boston Terriers are constantly mistaken for Pit Bulls, "Toy" Pit Bulls, Pugs and French Bulldogs.

Most people mess up gessing Mystics breed.  She's an akita but I get....is she mixed with shepherd? Oh is that a husky? That's one of those Alaskan dogs, right?

I am always asked if Kobi is a Bernese. Most people expect Aussies to be merles and a bit smaller than Kobi. Even after I tell them he is an Aussie they laugh and suggest maybe a Bernese sneeked into the yard. LOL

A couple of my shepherds have a curl to their tail, but for the most part, they are properly recognized as gsds.  Sheba, however, is a white wolf.  Because, yeah, where I live we have a TON of white wolves with short groomed coats walking around the village on lead.

I do sometimes get asked if I'm training leader dogs or if they are working police dogs.  Because, of course, most folks talk SIX out at a time for training and need six K9 dogs all together.  For the most part though, folks just cross the street when they see us coming! Hmm

The two fosters are smallish, light colored, and not very well muscled yet.  But, they are still pups, and their background also has a bit to do with the muscles.  There are a couple ladies in town who SWEAR I'm walking foxes.  Ummmm, they are NOT that small, they are NOT red, but, whatever!

Coonhounds are not at all common here in the city and so I get people who either grew up somewhere else and know exactly what Marlowe is (or at least that he's some kind of large hound) and then people who have no idea and from them I have gotten some very interesting guesses. I get "puppy doberman" a lot. And then there are the people who seem to think that even though he's 55 lbs and has long legs and a much blockier head that I somehow got my hands on a "giant dachshund". "Bloodhound/doberman" mix is popular, and I can see how people might think that. So I get people thinking my purebred is mixed all the time, and conversely no one believes my actual mutt is a mixed breed. Once I tell people though, I get all kinds of theories, and I take them all because I really have no idea. I have my own theories, but whatever anyone wants to guess, within reason, is just as likely as my guesses.

Tanner is an over sized sheltie and I get alot of Lassie!...Or is that a mini collie...Drives me bonkers over its Lassie...

People mistake Charlie for either a dachshund or a bassett.  The bassett maybe, but a dachshund I don't get.

I get that with Luna too, "but, she is black???" That or, "what happened to your Border Collie's tail?" Then I explain that she's an Aussie, and she her tail was docked. I love when people then second guess me, Iike I am making it up...."are you sure???" LOL

I actually had one guy at the dog park swear up and down that Jack was a lab/rot mix--not sure where that came from.

We think Sally is either full pit, or pit mixed with boxer maybe.  We get told that we have a beautiful boxer *all* the time.  We get Staffordshire terrier a lot too.  I've also been told that she is a pit/lab mix, a pit/cane corso mix, a "tiger" pit bull, not a pit bull but rather "one of those terriers," and my personal favorite has to be pit/pug mix....

People tell me all the time that Jamison is not a beagle because beagles are much taller.  Then I explain that there are two types of beagles and I have the 13" and under type.  Most people (geniuses that they are) tell me no way - he has to be half bassett.

    Duh . . . . .

I had one lady ask me if Tootsie was a beagle. I was dumbfounded. Maybe to other people her ears look floppy.

    the 13" and under type.

So they can be less than 13"?  Dusty (our beagle) is small too.  We constantly get asked if she is still a puppy....she's 3yrs old.

Oddly enough, considering how many hunters there are around here, a lot of people ask me if Morrison is a Chocolate Lab.  Monroe is so maybe they think that Morrison is actually related to him by blood.  I dunno...can't explain other people if I don't even understand myself!

People often assume that Zoe is a dachsie/min pin X because of her chocolate and tan coloring.

Even then, she is part 'dash-hound'.
