What breed has your dog been mistaken for?

From reading posts it seems this happens quite often to dog owners here. Yesterday I was walking Charlie, Ham, and my neighbors Mastiff/GP mix, while Joe was left at home. (long story, dont ask. xD) After awhile we passed a yard where a group of teenager boys were hanging out and one detached hisself from teh group to stop and talk to me.

The first words out of his mouth were "Are those all chows?"

I was like *blink blink* "Uh..No." Then I explained to him none of he dogs I was walking were Chows. I can understand some thinking Charlie might be part chow because he is about that size/color/fluffyness but really? Ham looks all Lab while Leo(Mastiff mix) looks nothing like a chow. Heh

My sister says her Weim gets called a Greyhound all the time. Well he is grey and he is a hound, but Really?

Yes, I have a black cairn terrier.  Most people think he is a Scottish terrier.  He does not look like a Scottie.  When I say he is a cairn terrier they look puzzled until I say, "like Toto on Wizard of Oz".  Then they get it.  Some people who do know he is a cairn terrier often mispronounce it "care - in"  terrier.

When my first Irish Setter was a pup someone asked me where I got my Red Coonhound.

Not really breeds, but I get "puppy", "retired police dog", and "mix" ALL the time.  The same people that say those things ask me what breed Coke is, lol, he's totally a mutt, I have no clue!

hehe, I have to chuckle at this. When I have Kord out and about I get.....

"that's a police type dog, right?"

I have a pretty goofy looking blue merle sheltie, and he gets mistaken for an aussie or a border collie all the time. He is oversized and light on coat, so I can see where they're coming from, plus alot of people don't know shelties come in blue merle. My smaller tri color sheltie has been mistaken for a bc too, but not as often.

Shadow has been mistaken for a Chocolate Lab

And other times, a wolf or wolf hybrid

Ronin, my Husky/Mal. mix has been mistaken for a white GSD........even though he carries his tail over his back and his muzzle is much shorter....but, oh well.......

    Kazimer always gets mistaken for a yorkie, he's an Aussie terrier;

The closest guess so far was a resident at the nursing home, asked if he was a silky terrier.  At 14# he's a bit big for a yorkie.

Dakota is often called a wolf by kids and most people have no idea what Neiko is. It seems that aussies aren't all that popular here in MI. That or they don't get out much.

People ask me all the time if "that's really a Lab."  Er, yes it is.  I don't know what they're thinking he is, but I can't imagine.  One person did tell me that I had a "beautiful Golden Retriever" Indifferent.  I could maaaybe see that mistake with a Yellow Lab, but Riley is... not even close to gold-colored.  Oh well.

Not too much, I'd probably get that more often if they were sables. I have had one person say "little lassies".

People have mistaken Gunnar for a red Weim

Hektor is often called a huge pit bull.
